which would you have bought?
Posted by: Grayzie ()

At the Farmer's Markets this morning there were 2 stalls selling apples. The first stall said their apples were "insecticide free" The second stall claimed their apples were "organically fertilised, low pesticide, picked yesterday". Which apples would you have bought? Obviously organic is a better option than both of these, but given the choice I had, I couldn't decide and bought some of each! lol. What are your thoughts?

I would have bought the Organically Fertilized, low-pesticide, picked yesterday. I never did like Animal Fertilizers. I always peel my Apples....something about the skin doesn't
'feel' right to me.....WY

Organically fertilized doesn't necessarily mean no animal products. The term for produce grown without animal products is veganic.

Hmmm.. 'insecticide free' doesn't necessarily mean chemical free, what about herbicides? What is used for fertiliser etc.?

I would have gone with the 'organically fertilised...' mainly because they were picked yesterday.

And even though I'd love for my produce to be veganic, I have to live with the fact that organically fertilised usually means it's MORE likely that things like chicken and cow manure have been used but...

But hey, with these sort of decisions, I always go back the the 'better than MacDonalds' saying... hehe. In this case FAR far better!

The fresher, the better IMHO.

I can wash off the stuff on the skin, but I can't duplicate "picked yesterday" at all.

Lucky you. I wish I had a choice like that. I'm lucky to get turnip greens picked, washed, chopped, bagged and freighted in from Idaho or somewhere, with a shelf life of 3 days. Better than no greens at all, but hey, picked yesterday? A GIFT!

LOL. This reminds me of the Zen Masters who can convince you that you
are Wrong, no matter what side of an issue you take.
An interesting experiment would be to use a Refractometer to check the
Brix levels of produce as it ages. I'm not convinced "picked yesterday"
is a deciding factor......WY

If they were the same price, I'd buy the ones that looked tastier.

I asked one of my coworkers who's into organic gardening the same question.

He pooh-poohed me and was like, "What about ORGANIC produce picked yesterday?" Apparently there are a lot of farmers markets in the Ontario GTA area willing to meet those demands. I'm going to make him take me! >8)

Wow, I didn't know my ex was a Zen master! LOL! And, I thought the relationship was completely unhealthy. I coulda been enlightened instead of on my own and living peacefully.

I would have bought organic apples from someone else.

<sigh>

But, that would have been the wrong thing in my last relationship.

That's funny!! I've known people like that.
I may be one of them. I think the main Thing in Life is
to Lift everyone up, and yourself in the process. Let go
of your Hurts, and Forgive.
P.S. I've decided to buy the Apples without the Pesticide.....WY
