two cheap juicers- are they worth considering at all?
Posted by: oshinn ()

well, my birthday's coming up next month, and i'm in the habit of asking my parents to get me ONE thing i want, as opposed to many things i don't want, and this year i'm asking for a juicer...

the trouble is, i'm not sure what to recommend to them; i am trying to be modest in suggesting one, because i don't want to say "hey, this one works great and it's $400 blah blah blah"

this may seem the silliest of threads, but i saw two juicers at target the other day and was curious about them. i know i can never believe what i see on the box, but i trust your guys' opinions...

the first was a "juiceman" juicer, the second one was a jack lalanne juicer. i don't know who he is but apparently he does a cooking show or something on TV?

ordinarily i wouldn't glance at them, but in the interest of money, and also because sometimes cheap products do great things, i'd like to know if anyone has used them or heard anything about them.

as well- is there a thread somewhere on the forum that reviews juicers? this would probably aid my search greatly.

thanks!
peace

Both Kordich's 'Juiceman' and LaLanne's 'Power Juicer' have sold into
the millions over the years. However, no serious Juice Drinker
would consider either one permanently. They are okay as a first juicer just
to see if you're serious or not. If you are, then move up to a
better juicer......WY

Hello Oshinn, Nice to be able to get a deal but some times you get what you pay for.
I was told when I was in the market for a Juicer _ you want one that works by centrifugal force, The other process - Grind and force thru grate
causes a lot of heat destroying Vits and enzymes.
I think the best on the market is a V 10 by the Automatic Corp. I have had one now for 9 yrs and it have juiced over 18,000 lbs of fruit and veg @000 lbs every year at reggea on the river for nine yrs plus home use, and not one brake down belt still like new. Also the extraction rate- is your pulp wet you may be trowing away every time with cheap machine. Atomatic comes in first place on that front and all other.
only neg is the price, they are very spendy but in a few years they pay for themselfs because they extract like no other with out the heat.
they have made juicers longer than any other in us and are commercal.
Im sure by now there is a good deal on the market for a good machine without the heat factor. PS Jack Lanne Is a raw foodist and is in amazing shape!

Hello Wheatgrass Yogi, i bought my V 10 Automatic thru North bay restaurant equipment 707-792 2293. also you might try Mulligan Associates they had an
exclusive licensee on V 10 1 800 -6262886 or 518 4899400.
let me know if the north bay # is not good it has been over nine yrs let me know and i will find info for you.
Automatic I would think now makes a non comercal centrifugal that would be alot cheaper than the V 10. have your heart pills near when you get the price but they are the best that you can buy. and again the juice that is extacted is almost dry no waste. before buying I went to all northern Ca Juice bars and asked what is the best most said if they could aford it was the V 10 by the Automatic corp. so I dont think you can beat it check it out.
Ps. you can over do it on juice. Beet and others can make liver and kidneys work overtime The automatic corp has that info in one of their juice recipe books

and that pulp just loves the garden

I think this may be the V-10 you mentioned.
They also have a smaller V-5 model for home use. I've owned
a couple of Commercial Centrifugal juicers over the years....
the Nutrifaster and the Ruby. They were too big and bulky for
me, costing about $2000 each. I understand Nutrifaster has come
out with a smaller juicer designed for the Home. I've searched
Far-and-Wide for the best juicer for Carrots....the Omega 4000
that I'm now using is the best I've found (to date).....WY

I have a Waring Pro Professional Juice Extractor... it retails for about $60 but I found it really discounted at Best Buy and I think I ended up paying $18! Such a steal!

It doesn't matter what brand of Juicer you use......as long as you
feel good about it. The question is "Are you using Juicing to achieve
Maximum Health?" I believe that Carrot Juice and Wheatgrass Juice are
the 2 best. They make for a good Body Massage too. I even like it on my hair.
Am I crazy? I bet you do stuff just as weird.......WY

I own the Jack LaLanne juicer. It juices the things I like; kale, carrots and coconut reasonably well and leaves me with a juicy pulp salad which I like.. so it works for me.

The juicer could use more power.. when juicing tough veggies it can jam or go out of kilter causing the basket to chafe or the blades to scrape the bottom of the plastic chute resulting in plastic in the juice.. a waste.

As much as I like it, I would look at different brands and types before purchasing another.

I still love my breville. Payed $110 for it with a 20% off coupon, at bed bath and beyond. It's doing wonderfully. It was slightly more expensive then the Jack Lalanne. I thought the JL looked kind of cheap and I've heard that they're harder to clean.

I've heard of motors burning out with Breville's, so I've just been as gentle with it as possible when it comes to shoving veggies in it, and so far haven't had a problem. Been jucing pretty much every day for a few months now.

"Jack LaLanne (born September 26, 1914) is an American fitness, exercise and nutritional expert, celebrity, lecturer, and motivational speaker who has been referred to as "the godfather of fitness." [1][2]

LaLanne gained worldwide renown for his success as a bodybuilder, as well as his prodigious feats of strength. He has won numerous awards, including the Horatio Alger Award from the Association of Distinguished Americans, and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and Hall of Fame."

I've always been a big fan of Jack LaLanne.

Not sure about either of those. I have both a greenstar and a breville 800JEXL.
I LOVE the Breville! It's the best!

I saw this on the [main.qigong.com] site. Some guy named Jeff Primack...

"Juicing vs. Blending
An interesting point that we have observed: Many of these health gurus that "juice" vegetables & fruits look unhealthy and get too many wrinkles. Most of the people we've met who juice for decades do not look the image of health. Why? They are getting an abundance of Vitamins, Minerals, & Enzymes, but no phytochemicals! Let's not forget that Phytochemicals are the main HEALING POWER within the plant kingdom. There is no greater anti-aging, anti-cancer, anti-disease force than phytochemicals.

We have guided thousands back to health and deal with countless people in the health industry. Jeff Primack says, "The juicer makes people age faster! It is not natural. People have been successful treating chronic disease with Raw Foods and juicing, but the success rate cannot compare with a high powered blender. I recommend the Blend-Tec 3 horse power blender, which is much stronger than a 2 horsepower VitaMix. This blender was developed by a NASA engineer and breaks down the fiber to such small particle size that it frees up the phytochemicals, which are binded to the fiber. This is my main secret to helping people get well."

What do you think?

Many people here use a Blend-Tec and are happy.
I'm 'pushing' the Vita-Prep 3 because it serves me best. I
like the manual controls over the programmable Cycles. I also
like the fact that I can use a 48-ounce container rather than
a 64-ounce. It works best for individual servings. Blend-Tec
doesn't have that option. Plus, the VP-3 has plenty of power
to break down the cell walls.
However...."The Proof of the Pudding is in the Eating". Get
your feet wet......WY
