Date: February 05, 2010 12:58AM i love my veggie juice
but sometimes i get tired of just drinking it plain or using apples or carrots cuz they are high glycemic pear is second on my list but what else to make them taste better not so bitter and be low glycemic ( for those who don't know.. low glycemic... is like low sugar) the other idea is more celery i guess Re: low glycemic juicing

Date: February 05, 2010 03:34AM I'd try low sugar fruits such as melons, citrus, berries or kiwi and see what tastes good. What about watermelon? Re: low glycemic juicing

Date: February 05, 2010 03:11PM ive been adding a little potato to my juice for several months now with good results .. this is what i found out about it last year when doing research
Potato Juice? well its not too novel apparently its a old time gypsy folk remedy hehe i dont juice enough of it to really even taste it its also apparently chockfull of chlorogenic acid, which helps prevent cell mutations that lead to cancer... supposedly its funny about chlorogenic acid .. Chlorogenic acid From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia [en.wikipedia.org] Chlorogenic acid is a family of naturally occurring organic compounds. These are esters of cinnamic acids and (-)-quinic acid.[1] It is an important biosynthetic intermediate.[2] It also is one of the phenols found in coffee as well as many other plants.[3] This compound, long known as an antioxidant, also slows the release of glucose into the bloodstream after a meal.[4] also slows the release of glucose into the bloodstream after a meal ive been mixing it with my carrot juice maybe 1/15 potato to carrot and i dont notice the sugar spikes i would get from the carrot nearly as much anymore so it seems that glucose slowing might actually have some merrit although ive only been adding hte potoato bit for a couple of months *shrugs* if i feel it works for me thats all that matters i reckon might be worth more research on your part if you are so inclined ...Jodi, the banana eating buddhist Re: low glycemic juicing

Date: February 07, 2010 03:29PM Using all vegetables juices rather than fruits which tend to be higher in sugars would be a good idea.
Most of the green vegetables are lower in sugar. Re: low glycemic juicing

Date: February 23, 2010 01:51AM Coconut is nice to add and it lowers the glycemic index by decreasing the rate of gastric emptying--
"Indeed, the rate of gastric emptying of any meal can be predicted rather accurately by knowing its nutrient density. Nutrient density is sensed predominantly in the small intestine by osmoreceptors and chemoreceptors, and relayed to the stomach as inhibitory neural and hormonal messages that delay emptying by altering the patterns of gastric motility. The presence of fat in the small intestine is the most potent inhibitor of gastric emptying, resulting in relaxation of the proximal stomach and diminished contractions of the distal, "gastric grinder" - when the fat has been absorbed, the inhibitory stimulus is removed and productive gastric motility resumes." [www.vivo.colostate.edu] ..coconut/carrot juice with greens and other things is a favorite. Re: low glycemic juicing

Date: May 31, 2010 06:58AM oh wow... great responses
funny.. it seems like some of my replies were strangely deleted either that, or i am imagining my imagination is good but not THAT good LOl at any rate paul u gave me an idea to use watermelon rind i think i will do that i like the taste of it, mild plus has chlorophyll jgunn SUPER interesting the thing with the potato maybe i'll try it and see what happens so then i can add carrots without feeling like its doing something weird to me.. with all that sugar hey powerlifter do u use mostly veggies in your juices? i'm also thinking putting greens then celery and tomatoes is a great idea i did that before it tasted like a v-8 plus refreshing i think the tomato is what made it nice then one time i added jalapeno ( just a nick) to the mix and it blended in beautifully hey loeve lowering glycemic index due to slowing down of rate of gastric emptying... hmmmm....i'm just wondering what are the ramifications of slow gastric emptying in relation to the effects of high sugar content. does this help the body process the sugar at a slower more "do-able" metabolic rate without crashing it? so interesting... thanks everyone for the fantastic responses if anyone else has more , it would be greatly appreciated recipes would also be a SUPER plus!! the Re: low glycemic juicing

That is the effect, yes, the way I understand it. The intestines can only process so much fat at a time and will send a message via hormones to the stomach to halt emptying until it catches up. The sugar eaten with the meal is passively held up with the fat. The net effect is a flatter bell curve for glucose load. Re: low glycemic juicing

Date: June 09, 2010 07:27AM I don't consider apples and carrots to be high glycemic.
I add watermelon to some green drinks. I person here showed how to add bannans, and or pineapple to green drinks. Cucumber is a mild additive. Never tried stevia but who knows.... Re: low glycemic juicing

Date: June 16, 2010 04:20AM hey back to eden
i guess it depends on how much apple or carrot a person actually uses per drink but those items tend to make me feel a bit "off" whereas all vegetables only ( i know tomato is a fruit and whatnot but u know) makes me feel a lot more deeply centered Re: low glycemic juicing

Date: June 22, 2010 04:04PM I add one apple and about 10 carrots to what becomes 1 gallon of juice. The apple is for taste plus something in the apple helps to digest greens. The carrots are for taste and vitamen A. Re: low glycemic juicing

Date: July 02, 2010 04:13PM By only taking into account the glycemic index, it seems that many fruits rank medium to high. On the glycemic load scale, however, fruits rank medium to low.
I wrote an article about this here: [www.fitonraw.com] Swayze Re: low glycemic juicing

Date: July 02, 2010 05:09PM I just made some juice that didn't taste too sweet. It did have a bunch of carrots in it, though. Verdict? Meh. Made better, had better. I put in a few cukes, some carrots, two cloves of garlic (too much), and I blended it with a few sweet cherry tomatoes and strained the result. I will drink it but I am not beating a path to the fridge at the moment... Re: low glycemic juicing
