Vita-Mix 5200 vs Vita-Prep 3
Posted by: Wheatgrass Yogi ()

For those of you who are considering buying a Vita-Mix blender,
allow me to suggest spending a little more money, and get the
Vita-Prep 3 (model 1005...which is what I own).
This video says it all.....WY
P.S. EverythingKitchens.com has the best price I can find so far
($497). I'd like to know if anyone can find a lower price.

The carafe is not BPA free.
It's a LOT louder, how quiet the 5200 is even at high speed is one of the things I like about it especially because I run it early in the morning and have neighbours I don't want to disturb at that hour.
I paid about $150 less than the lowest price of the Vita-Prep 3 (bought a refurbished unit) and mine is fire engine red winking smiley.
The 5200 has a warranty that is over 2 times as long (7 years vs 3).
I like the soft touch switches.
I don't need 3 horsepower or a stronger cooling fan, it's over kill for me since I'm not using the machine commercially. In his dixie cup test he ran his blender about 3 times longer than I ever run mine. I only use it for a smoothie in the mornings and possibly a sauce or soup or salad dressing in the afternoon and that only takes a couple of minutes max each time.

I'm really happy with the 5200.

I wouldn't have it any other way. The 5200 does the
job very well (I owned it's predecessor, the 5000, many years
ago).
I just thought someone here might like that extra boost of power
the larger cooling fan gives to the Vita-Prep 3. Even my thickest
Green Smoothies never have any 'chunks'.
As far as the noise goes....it's just for a few seconds. Besides,
the Power of the Vita-Prep 3 is a bit of a turn-on.....WY

the other consideration is that the 5200 has the 7 year warranty, and I believe (I could be wrong on this) is that a Vitaprep 3, a commercial blender, has a 3 year warranty. So, if something goes wrong past year 3, 5200 is a better buy. Check the warranty though and I'm stipulating this is all on memory. Vita Prep 3 does have more horse than a 5200 if that translates into blending ability.

Paul

p.s. buy the Pro 500 anyway, get the best of all worlds.
