question about my blender blades

Date: November 14, 2007 12:06AM i am new to the raw life and am trying to do the smoothies.
i am using an old proctor-silex blender. i don't have the funds to purchase a new blender right now. i noticed the few times i have used the blender that it seemed to bog down, so i was making sure that i chopped things up very well before blending. but today i think i found the real problem. i believe that the blades are too tight or gummed up and are too difficult for the blender motor to spin. has anyone have any ideas as to how i might 'un-gum' the blade part? i was thinking of soaking the piece in hydrogen peroxide. ' any ideas about how to get the blades to spin freer would be very much appreciated. thanks! ~karrie Re: question about my blender blades

Date: November 14, 2007 12:36AM The base with blades should all unscrew from the Carafe for cleaning. Looking at the bottom, turn counter-clockwise.....WY Re: question about my blender blades

Date: November 14, 2007 01:38AM Karrie.....No, I don't think the blades separate from the plastic. I'd clean it with an old toothbrush and soap, rinse, coat it with a little Coconut Oil, wipe clean, and screw it all back together. You shouldn't have to do that again. I never remove the blades from my Vita-Mix.....WY Re: question about my blender blades

Date: November 14, 2007 02:16AM some day i'd love to have a famous vita mix!! they sound like they are amazing.
i think they sell them at the state fair. if i can hold out until then, that might be the best way to go price wise. i did see one on craigslist. an old 3600 for $125 but it is out of my price range right now. i will try the toothbrush method. maybe if i boil it it might help too. thanks a bunch for your help WY! ~karrie Re: question about my blender blades

Date: November 15, 2007 06:01AM Hi
Just thought you might like to know that Vitamixes in the UK are, I believe, even more expensive than in the US, ie even taking into account the exchange rate. A Vitamix with the dry jug is £575. For comparison purposes the price of a Big Mac in the UK (not that anyone on this forum will know anything about Big Macs of course!) is £2, and the average annual salary is around £25,000. How does that compare with the US price? Love Debbie Took Re: question about my blender blades

Date: November 15, 2007 08:16AM hi debbie,
vita mix blenders seem to run from ~$350 on up. a big mac is probably $1. average salary, i believe is quite a bit less than $30,000. tough to find that info. i could pretty much just find household income, which seemed to be ~$43,000. Re: question about my blender blades

Date: November 15, 2007 09:09PM The current exchange rate: 1 British pound = 2.0701 U.S. dollars
If the Vitamix is £575 then that's $1,190.31. That's way, way too much, unless the deal includes every conceivable add-on. Re: question about my blender blades
