Date: May 11, 2008 05:22PM It's not good enough just to grow a Garden. Make sure the crop is Nutrient Dense by amending the soil. It's referred to as High Brix Gardening......WY
P.S. We're being shortchanged by the Organic Food Industry. Most of the time there's no more nutrition in organic produce than the non-organic. True, the pesticide issue is important too. Re: ready .. set .. GROW !

Why do you say that? The information I've read indicates that organic produce is more nutritious than conventionally grown produce. Regards, flash Re: ready .. set .. GROW !

Date: May 12, 2008 07:04PM Oh, jodi I have a simular Idea I was thinking of making a salad bar at my driveway and people could just drive up and grab enough salad for dinner and give whatever. I think the yard garden is a great Idea. I am itching to plant the seeds. I have been planting tomatoe starts and I think I have gone a bit overboard on them. I think I should come over for a visit this summer. yum Re: ready .. set .. GROW !

I just bought a Refractomer to measure the Brix (food quality) Levels of produce. It's an interesting little Tool. I've read that the quality of Organic is no better than non-Organic. I want to check for myself.....WY [www.highbrixgardens.com] Re: ready .. set .. GROW !

I just planted some lettuce as week ago... in pots on my deck. Used really expensive organic soil from Whole Foods. I'm thinking it would grow high brix plants. Can't plant in the ground around my place due to the lead from the paint. I live in an old place, the outside had lead paint at one time. Re: ready .. set .. GROW !

Date: May 14, 2008 02:29PM LaPieta i read years ago in an old gardening book that alfalfa has an amazing way of pulling lead out of soil (i would pull up the alfalfa and dispose of it after each crop as you dont want to re-introduce it back to you soil) im certain that it read that if you plant and pull it crop after crop for a couple of years your soil will be safer to use. have you done a soil test to see what levels of lead are there?

I bought a Digital Refractometer just for testing my Wheatgrass Juice. I paid an arm-and-a-leg for it, but Bush is giving me $600 to stimulate the economy. My Goal is to grow the most nutritious Grass on Planet Earth. Jodi, I guess you grow Tomatoes? I bought a beautiful Heirloom Tomato a few days ago that only tested 5% on the Brix Scale. I know I can do better than that. Paid $2.50 for it, and it wasn't that big. Do you have a 'secrets' for us on Soil Amendment? I put my carrot pulp around my Grapefruit Tree, and Roses. They Love it. Can't wait to test my grapefruit in November. There are hundreds of little fruit on the tree right now.....WY Re: ready .. set .. GROW !

its that time of the year! lots of fresh green life appearing everywhere! commercially grown organic is different from homegrown. its nearly impossible for high volume organic growers to replace the minerals at the rate at which they are being used by the plants fo that we can use them. minerals are the bottom line......not using chemicals is no doubt important but the mineral content is just as important maybe more. compost and create your own supply of high quality food if possible. jj Re: ready .. set ..
