I recommend the Gerson Therapy.

From [www.gersonhawaii.us]:

Healing Lung Cancer & Respiratory Diseases, The Gerson Way, by Charlotte Gerson

John Peters – Lung Cancer and Myasthenia Gravis

In mid-August 1989 John Peters turned 60 years of age. He was working out regularly, and five days a week was also swimming 1000 yards. He had never been a smoker, ate a good diet, and had only missed work once in 30 years. After giving him his annual examination, his doctor pronounced him in excellent health.
Just two months later, however, he had a persistent cough. In November he underwent open chest surgery for non-small cell lung cancer. The operation was followed by 24 radiation treatments which seemed to work – for a while. About a year later, he developed another cough and began losing weight, strength and energy. "I was like a wind-up toy that was running down" he later recalled of this time, "and the doctors were not helping."
After being hospitalised for a bronchoscopic examination, Mr. Peters' physician said that he would again have to have open-chest surgery to remove the recurring cancer. When he refused both surgery and chemotherapy, they told him that he had no chance for survival.
"I had researched lung cancer, and realised that the only reason I got cancer was that my body supported it", he wrote when giving us the story of his recovery. "Thus, if I didn't change the internal environment of my body, the cancer would just come back again."
John started on the Gerson Therapy in May 1991, and he did it at home. "I was very weak and the therapy was demanding," he said. "But I was facing the Grim Reaper and was highly motivated. In only three weeks, I knew it was working, I was getting stronger, coughing less, and feeling much better. Most surprising of all, I was actually gaining weight on this vegetarian diet after losing so much for months, I had become just skin and bones!"
About one year after starting Therapy, John Peters reported, he returned to his pulmonary specialist. He found out later that the physician had stated in his medical records that "the patient is fine with no sign of cancer, so our diagnosis was undoubtedly wrong."
Before having surgery in 1989, John had obtained a second opinion from the head of the Pittsburgh Cancer Institute. In 1996, when he returned there for a follow-up test, the head physician was shocked to see him. "He said that I'd never know how lucky I was to be alive. He told me that with my disease, there was only about a 3% chance of survival."
In a communication to the Gerson Institute in 1999, John Peters could tell us this: "I have remained cancer-free and in reasonably good health for the past seven years. I am vegan, avoid refined flour, sugar, salt, caffeine, and alcohol; and I still juice about 24 ounces per day. There is no doubt in my mind that I would have been in the cemetery six or seven years ago without the Gerson Therapy."
But he had gone through a harrowing period earlier. In November 1992, John had suddenly began to see double. "The doctors suspected that the lung cancer had spread to my brain," he said, "but all tests were negative. The problem went away … until the following November, when the double vision recurred. My mother and favourite uncle had both suffered from myasthenia gravis, which is what I was diagnosed with."
The condition cleared up with medication, but again returned the following November. "After appearing for three consecutive years only in November," Mr. Peters told us, "I asked God what this meant. But it turned out that on Halloween, I would eat leftover Halloween candy. I have not eaten candy since November 1995. And though I had been told that I was permanently disabled and would never recover, I have had no sign of myasthenia gravis since then..Last news from John Peters: November 2002. He writes that he is well and truly enjoying his two sets of twin grandchildren that, he states, "without the Gerson Therapy I would have died before getting to know them."
Two interesting statements in this patient's report deserve further commentary: 1 Doctors tend to reason backwards, so that if a cancer patient who was declared by them to be in a "terminal" condition somehow recovers, they assume that the diagnosis was wrong. I have some problems with this observation. Since the doctors had suggested open chest surgery and chemotherapy when the patient presented with an apparent recurrence of lung cancer, were they criminally suggesting unnecessary treatments? It is unethical and even illegal to alter medical records, yet at the Gerson Institute patients often report their doctors tell them because they got well, they had initially been misdiagnosed.
2 The other point I should point I should like to make is that this patient also recovered from myasthenia gravis. At the Gerson hospitals, we rarely see cases with this condition. Yet here we have a report that the Gerson Therapy was able to overcome this serious health problem, too.

Jgunn,

Sorry to hear about your father's troubles. It's very good that he's open to juicing!

You might consider contacting the IAHP (International Association of Hygenic Physicians) to see if there's a physician in your area that your Dad would agree to talk to. IAHP is a group of physicians and naturopathic physicians trained in supervised fasting. It's my understanding that they don't generally advocate supervised fasts for cancer patients, but they might have other worthwhile suggestions for your Dad. Here is their internet referral list:

For motivation on staying vegan to facilitate a healing process, I would recommend The China Study. The book is named after some very interesting and long-term cancer research conducted by Dr. Campbell (from Cornell University) and other distinguished researchers from around the world. Dr. Campbell and his peers found that meat and dairy products are cancer "promoters", and that when those substances are not consumed, the introduction of certain carcinogens doesn't lead to cancer.

Omega, maybe you can correct me on some of the misgivings I have about the Hawaii Naturopathic Retreat Center/ Hawaii Gerson Therapy Retreat, and about Gerson Therapy in general. I was thrilled to find out some time ago that the Hawaii retreat linked in your post is located only a few miles from my home - but extremely disappointed to learn that Dr. Baylac doesn't have all the credentials that she claims on her website.

Specifically, on Dr. Baylac:

-According to the Gerson Institute, Dr. Baylac did receive Gerson training and was certified, but her certification was revoked.

- According to the attorney for IAHP, Dr. Baylac did receive some training with them, but she never completed the IAHP requirements, and she is not a certified member as she claims.

-Dr. Baylac is a fully accredited naturopathic physician, so it's difficult to understand why some of her other credentials are fudged. Whatever the case, I think it's cause for concern.

On Gerson Therapy, I believe this is a sincere treatment, but it may be the kind of thing that a person needs to look carefully at and pick and choose the good, while discarding the (perhaps) not so good.

IMO, the good: Gerson Therapy advocates a vegetarian diet that includes lots of fruits and veggies.

IMO, the not-so-good: Gerson Therapy includes supplementation with some perhaps not-so-healthy and definitely not-so-humane products. Here is a list of the "Sample Supplement package", advertised at Dr. Baylac's retreat, all for a mere $1501.00 (2005):

Note the liver extract and the ox bile. It's my understanding that these are injected by syringe, and are part of the standard Gerson treatment.

I guess I don't need to remind you Jgunn, that it's always best to look before you leap!

I wish you and your Dad the best!

(Sorry Omega about the negative critique. I know you must mean well, and maybe I don't have all the facts.)

Hi suncloud,

I didn't actually mean to recommend the Hawaii Naturopathic Retreat Center/ Hawaii Gerson Therapy Retreat in my post, as I know absolutely nothing about it. I simply did a quick search for a testimonial of the healing of lung cancer through the Gerson Therapy, and that is the page that came up.

I am a big believer in the Gerson Therapy for its diet and juice program, as that is essentially what allows the body to heal. Even if the supplements are less-than-ideal, the body will still heal in spite of them, due to the low-fat, nearly all-raw diet and the daily juices.

I also like recommending the Gerson Therapy to "conventional" people as it is an established program that allows them to begin a healing regimen immediately, without having to acquire a raw foods education first. Also, I believe the Gerson treatment center in Mexico is staffed by doctors, and that setting may make "conventional" people more comfortable.

Jodi,

So, so sorry to hear about your dad. Personally, I would urge you to try dosing your father with as many chlorophyll-rich beverages as possible: buckets of kale, chard, parsley, lettuce and citrus smoothies, and as much fresh wheatgrass and barley grass juice(which has a specific anti-carcinogenic type of polysaccharides) as he can down comfortably. These are all highly oxygenating, and cancer hates oxygen, as I'm sure everyone's heard me mention before ad nauseum.

I wish you both success and give you big virtual hugs, dear. Please keep us posted. Peace to you.

I'd recommend Brian Clement's "Hippocrates Health Institute" in West Palm Beach, FL. Put your Dad on some sort of Wheatgrass Juice (and other Greens) therapy. Avoid anything containing Sugar....all Fruit....and even Carrot Juice. Celery Juice is fine....also Chlorella (highly recommended).
Avoid traditional Medicine....hold a gun to your Dad's head if need be.
Keep his spirits up, and half the battle is won.
Best wishes.....WY

I've heard good things about Cesium Chloride or PawPaw. My friend has used the PawPaw and he's had others that had luck with the Cesium Chloride. Also, recently Cindy Wheatcraft overcame her cancer with the Alkaline Diet. I have put a couple of links below. Good luck to your and your dad. Therese

jgunn,
Sorry to hear the news. I think he should juice what is appealing to him. Fresh organic carrots, various veggies, apples, oranges, whatever appeals. Cabbage, wheatgrass, barley grass sounds like good options, as some people have mentioned. Getting some fresh air and sunlight would also be helpful. Pray/meditation/relaxation techniques would be helpful. My partners father had pancreatic cancer which spread to his liver. He did chemo and that didnt help, and now hes back on it. He has already had surgery to remove some ducts, I would like to think he could benefit from raw foods, but I don't know how open he is to that. I'm not close enough to him, and I think they think I have quacky ideas, so I don't know what to suggest or not.

I hope he improves! I have a juicer which I was considering selling cheap, but now I am thinking I might send it to my partners father. I think that might be enough of a suggestion to use it. But I don't know if his parents want to use that, especially not cleaning it. Hes lost weight, so maybe he has trouble eating and keeping food down.

Yes, please let us know what happens, it could help my partners father! My partner thinks he won't live long enough for us to see him again. Which is only 4-5 months away. I keep tell him you don't know that, I have great hopes, actually more like confidence that we will both see him again, and that he will live longer than anyone expected. I hope your father does also.

"he has a hard time swallowing from pressure on his esophagus"

I got a big ol' hunk of fiber lodged in my throat a little while back all alone. It was scary. Some primitive vomiting reflex kicked in or else I wouldn't be here.

Did someone mention smoothies already? Might be nice for different flavors and textures.

I asked my partner if his father would be open to juicing. Sadly, he thought that he would not be. So, he is against sending the juicer to him. However, we will bring it with us the next time we go to see him.

Sorry to hear the news, and best of luck! Great things come of juicing, that's good he is open.

May I kindly suggest some Cat's Claw (an herb):

It also synergizes with this herb, if you are looking to cook something very powerful:

With Cat's Claw, you also want to cycle something like 3 weeks on/1 week off. Slowly increase dosing, and cut back if there are loose bowel movements...

Best wishes!

Oh very frustrating day today , (and im only on day 2 of moving back in with my parents to look after them lol)

so my dad goes tto the cancer treatment centers nutritionist today and she flat out tells him

no fresh veggies and fruits ... tooo much risk of ecoli and samonella for his comprimised immune system

several hours later i still cant convince him how ludicrous this is

they want him to drink 6 meal replacement shakes all day until they have his feeding tube setup ready to install

this of course is told tto him after he gets shot up with some chemical that he is now radioactive for the next 4 days from the bone scan he got today

so .. veggies and fruit bad ... radioactive material ok ...

i feel like im in a weird nightmare :/

Jodi,

So sorry you are going through this. When my mom was told the same thing about fresh vegetables and fruits, she nodded politely and pointed to me and said, "oh, you know, my daughter washes everything in food grade hydrogen peroxide--it kills all germs." The response from the nurses and doctor was quizzical looks but no further discussion, so win/win. My mom continued to eat the stuff that was helping her stay alive and the medical professionals just had to abide by it.

You must remember that you and your dad are in charge of his fate, his doctor is not. Try sitting your father down and explaining that you will be washing everything for him carefully and without judgment state that the vegetables and fruits will help him survive and that there is no scientific reason to not eat them if they are clean. See how he responds, and then determine whether you want to make this an issue with his doctor. I would advise prevaricating if it will make it easier on your father.

It's going to get harder for you now, but stay strong and positive and your father's chances will remain good. Sending good energy your way : )

Jodi,

The truth of the matter is that your parents don't see the connection between diet and health like you do. Because if they did, they would be eating the kind of diet you do.

So for them, whats more important is the comfort and pleasure of the way they have already been doing things. Given the way they were raised and their experiences, I am not surprised at this attitude, as it is very prevalent in our society.

What's preventing you from feeling love, peace and bliss in your time with your parents is your attachment. Mostly attachment for them to have the same world view as you have. What if you were to not try to change your parents, but to accept their choices for themselves, offer no resistance to how they want to live, and give them what they ask for when it comes to their needs? To spend the time your father has left being present and available for love, and let go of the pain of your attachments.

This is no easy task, as you can see how what they are doing is contributing to their ill health. But to accept a person's life choices without judgment is a demonstration of love.
