keratosis pilaris

I have had KP or keratosis pilaris for a number of years. I just recently started taking a vitamin A supplement for another reason. However, to my surprise my KP has radically improved, its almost gone. Some dots are still visible, but I don't feel the crust thats usually there. Unfortunately its synthetic vitamin A, and not from a natural source, nor beta carotene.

I am so curious as to why this has made a difference. Maybe its due to something else, but I thought that everyone converted beta carotene to vitamin A effectively. Any insights? I do worry somewhat about the fact that its synthetic, but I am broke and it was on sale.
