Date: October 07, 2012 04:21PM I made a basic video for youtube with a list of some of the common adaptogenic herbs with pictures of each botanical.
Adaptogenic are herbs which can increase the bodies resistance to stress and have a non-specific normalizing action on the body. [www.youtube.com] Appreciate any likes and sharing, best viewed full screen. Re: Adaptogenic Herbs List Video

Date: October 08, 2012 12:26PM Well done videos, but in the second video, why is a regular artichoke shown in the picture for a Jerusalem artichoke? Are their prebiotic values the same? Re: Adaptogenic Herbs List Video

Date: October 11, 2012 11:53PM Good, informative video, powerlifer. I would recommend, however, that you use an actual human voice--if not your own then a mate's--for the next one. The delivery with this software is stilted, to the point where people were using it to make parody animation videos last year on the intertubes. Re: Adaptogenic Herbs List Video

I will need to try find another natural sounding voice or a human lol, that was the best i could find. Theres no way my rough Scottish accent would work for these videos anyway. Id need subtitles lol. Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 10/12/2012 09:02AM by powerlifer. Re: Adaptogenic Herbs List Video

Hmph, I wouldn't mind listening to that! Haha maybe i will give a video a try later. It would be alot easier for me to just speak than using this machine im using at the moment, which only lets me use 100 characters aswell lol. Thanks for checking them out later also Re: Adaptogenic Herbs List Video

Date: October 25, 2012 11:01AM As i wrote on the adrenal fatigue tips video, overall i feel one of the best adaptogenic herbs for supporting the adrenal glands is licorice root. Adrenal fatigue involves a mild to moderate glucocorticoid insufficiency which is what can cause many of the symptoms such as fatigue, myalgia, decreased response to allergies, post exertion fatigue and so on.
Licorice root helps to increase circulating levels of cortisol by reducing the breakdown in the liver. 2-2.5g daily of licorice root extract i have found helpful for aiding recovery from adrenal fatigue and chronic fatigue syndrome(if the underlying cause is depressed adrenal function and disturbed HPA axis). Licorice root being an adaptogen also helps increase the bodies resistance to stress and overall helps to normalize body functions. Licorice root is also a potent anti-viral and immune booster. All round licorice root is one of my favorite herbs. Especially for healing leaky guy and inflammatory problems. As always discuss with a professional first before using any herb. High doses and long term use of licorice root has the ability to increase blood pressure and hypokalemia through potassium loss. I often see people recommending DGL which is deglycyrrhizinated licorice. Whilst DGL is good for soothing the esophagus and stomach lining, it does not have the anti-inflammatory or adrenal support benefits because the component glycyrrhizin has been removed. Thanks for this, powerlifer I just re-read my post the dosages were meant for regular licorce root not extract. The recommended dosages for licorice root extract is about 1-1.5g a day. For the regular licorice root powder i usually take half a teaspoon up to 3 times daily, at least 25 minutes before meals. Licorice is a great herb for a number of different issues from gastrointestinal health, ulcers, liver problems, hepatitis, adrenal fatigue, inflammatory problems, adaptogenic, soothes the throat and has potent anti-viral, bacterial and fungal properties. Most herbs won't seriously lower blood pressure to be of any issue, especially the adaptogenic herbs as mentioned above. These herbs help to normalize blood pressure, so many of the adaptogen herbs work for both low and high blood pressure. Re: Adaptogenic Herbs List Video
