What should I do about Birth Control??

The pills' side effects make me a wreck...

The copper IUD seems somewhat healthy because at least it does not have any horomones in it...

any other raw ladies that have done the copper IUD

I haven't done the copper IUD, but I'm using a little device called 'ovulite'. I basically check my saliva every morning to find out when I'm ovulating. So, when I'm ovulating, we either abstain or use a condom. Could work the other way around too if you're trying to get pregnant. Works for me. It cost about $30, with nothing more to buy.

I'm going to talk to my doctor next week about the copper IUD. I too detest hormone bc so i think this is a good alternative. so far i haven't found anything about the copper being dangerous unless you have an allergy to copper (duh).
i'll let you know what my dr says

Do any raw foodists take birth control pills?

I used to take them years ago but they made me feel not quite like myself, and they really killed my sex drive (a surprisingly common side effect).

And obviously now I feel averse to the idea of ingesting pills every day.

This sucks, there really aren't any good & easy birth control options.

Read about the billings method.

I never use birth control with my girlfriend and we won't have a baby until we're good and ready.

to be perfectly honest, though there are no hormones in copper, it seems putting a copper device into your uterus to fool it into thinking it's pregnant seems like it would still have some negative effects. i guess it's easier than learning and working with your own cycles, but i would be very careful. there are negative aspects, and if you do get pregnant while still having the iud, the dangers for you and the child are really scary.

i'm with the old school method of being aware of your body and abstaining or using contraception accordingly. i used body temperature and mucus for two years, and only got pregnant b/c i was traveling and my husband and i knew i could concieve but didn't really care at that point. he's a beautiful 'accident' which i was thrilled to have!

and i'm going to use this method until i'm ready for another child.

Thank you, Narz and Mama Cass for posting that useful information. I'm going to try it! I think I would freak out if I ever got pregnant.

Regardless of whether you use the pill, please use a condom. Safety first!
