Could be true! I am still drinking my mostly green smoothies, and so far, so good.

I've had my Vitamix for over 12 years. It's a workhorse. I've been making green smoothies for over 5 years now. Yes, I use water and ice (to make it drinkable and not hot!) and I'm very happy with this product. I bought a BlendTek for my kids. It has a smaller container, is faster (more HP), has a higher pitched sound (I use ear plugs), works just fine. I have a juicer I no longer use beca

I read these boards often, and find information that is interesting here. One item was using baking soda to brush my teeth. Sounds healthy, effective, and I had no problem with it. So, for about 3 years I used baking soda daily to brush my teeth, using hydrogen peroxide swished around my teeth and gums prior to sleeping. My teeth looked good, my gums were healthy, no plaque buildup on my teeth

Actually, here in S. FL just watermelon (with rind) is blended by itself for a totally refreshing summer drink. (and a few ice cubes, too.) I learned about it from a Hispanic guy who manages a fresh (locally grown, supposedly) fruit/veg stand near my home. When I tried it, I was amazed at how quickly it quenched my thirst!

I was speaking with a doctor the other day, and mentioned to him that I am fine (eating-wise) all day but at 4PM, I feel maniacal about food. He said that is true of most people in his experience, which is why most diets don't work. So, I guess I'm just part of the human race!

I saw a reference to this on another post. Is this for real? ALSO - eating the inside of apricot pits? Isn't that superbly bitter? How would one even open up an apricot pit? (Hammer, pliers, what?)

I try to mix up the ingredients in my smoothies - I make them daily - in order to get a wide variety of fruits and veggies in there. For me, the variety is what keeps me coming back for more! Cucumbers, carrots, beets, celery, oranges, lemons, mango, papaya, bananas, red peppers, tomatoes, sweet corn off the cob, zucchini, butternut squash, sweet potato, grapes, berries, watermelon... Since

I use ginger root for arthritis pain - and it worked fine for a long time but now does not seem to do the trick anymore. I also eat pineapple often, same story - used to work, now does not. My thoughts are that perhaps the pain would be a lot worse without these (and if I was not eating green smoothies daily). I do know that stress really makes the arthritis flare up for me. So I try a l

Hi Fruitgirl, I get newsletters from the Hippocrates center, but I've not yet had the chance to visit there, nor am I associated in any other way. I've been a longtime member of this site, and when I saw this video I thought right away of some of the fruitarian discussions I was following. My raw food ideas run along the lines of Wheatgrass Yogi - I balance fruit with greens (although it

From the peanut gallery: keep in mind, what you are eating is GOOD fat, not the hydrogenated trans fats found in processed foods that most people eat. Good fat is good for you. You can determine what percentage makes you feel bad, and cut back. If I go on a low fat regime, I feel horrible and my skin gets all dried out and my joints hurt. When I add back the good fat, like from seeds, n

I have changing tastes, too. Sometimes I know why - like the change of seasons (yes, we have very subtle seasons here in South FL!) or changes in my work schedule. Sometimes just the thought of another veg is so BORING I could choke. I have been a strong proponent of green smoothies for several years now. I can chuck a bunch of stuff into my Vitamix and come up with something splendid, that

I never thought of that: putting the stainless steel thermos into the freezer. I'm SO trying that tomorrow!

I have been toting mine to work for the past 2 years in a Thermos. No complaints. I use a stainless steel thermos now, after haven broken two glass ones over the past 2 years. They are still cold when I drink them, about 5 hours after they are blended. Yummie!

Just my 2 cents: The fats you are eating are not BAD fats. Do they make you feel bad? If not, why do you think they are bad for you? Without "good" fats, or fats in general, you get all screwed up: dry skin, hungry all the time, joint pain (well, for me anyway), etc. So what's wrong with what you are doing? I started out raw eating a lot of the same stuff, and I felt great. Af

This could not have come at a better time for me. I'm feeling good, strong, and a bit hungry, but not STARVING if you know what I mean. I'm also planning on following up with a juice fast tomorrow, and 100% raw starting Monday. Thanks for the heads up!

I've been taking it for as long as I've been mostly raw and green, and no changes for me. In fact, I'm noticing a bit more hair fallout (no change to diet except to more vigorously avoid cooked food more often), and am making my next appointment to check the levels - I might need to increase it. Others I've read on this board have mentioned better results, so don't give up hope!

I have a combo of 1 tbsp each: sunflower seeds sesame seeds pumpkin seeds almonds (sometimes pecans or walnuts) flax seeds hemp seeds which I add to my daily smoothie. Keeps me from getting hungry, keeps some of the froth down in my green smoothie, and tastes wonderful. I guess it's the protein. Hemp seeds have (YES IT IS TRUE!) 15 GRAMS OF PROTEIN per ounce. That's just superl

Debbie, I followed your link to the blog and just wanted to tell you how interesting and informative I thought it was. Enjoyed it, esp. the recipe for sprouted wheat bread (Essene version) - keep up the wonderful articles! And that Saturday fast is looking good to me at this time. Count me in!

The green smoothie is my breakfast, lunch and pre-dinner appetizer (about 8.5 cups daily). I use a variety of seeds and nuts along with flaxseed in my smoothie daily. I noticed my Omega 3 intake just from my fruits/veggies smoothie is 2 grams vs. 7.6 grams Omega 6. Was just curious: is this a good ratio? I do not eat any processed foods, so my Omega 6 is from plant sources. Additional

Thanks for your ideas on glass storage. I agree. But for the freezer, too? I just never stored anything in glass in the freezer. I don't know why, but it seemed plastic was better for the freezer. Hmmm. The stainless stuff is beautiful, but again, for the freezer? Also it is a tad expensive and not much variety. I use a stainless thermos, its' great, but it too was expensive. I buy seeds, n

I was happy to see this topic. I've had questions about using plastic for my food. I heard there was "good" plastic - does not leach into food and "bad" plastic which is to be avoided. How do I find out the difference? I use the rubbermaid stuff from Walmart, and cross my fingers. I also use ziplock bags for freezing stuff but I notice a specific odor when for ex

I use beet greens (tops) as often as possible in my smoothies. Yummie. Check out NutritionData.com: The good: This food is very low in Saturated Fat and Cholesterol. It is also a good source of Protein, Folate, Pantothenic Acid, Phosphorus and Zinc, and a very good source of Dietary Fiber, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E (Alpha Tocopherol), Vitamin K, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Vitamin B6, Calciu

The fresher, the better IMHO. I can wash off the stuff on the skin, but I can't duplicate "picked yesterday" at all. Lucky you. I wish I had a choice like that. I'm lucky to get turnip greens picked, washed, chopped, bagged and freighted in from Idaho or somewhere, with a shelf life of 3 days. Better than no greens at all, but hey, picked yesterday? A GIFT!

Hi again Coco - my dentist knows about my baking soda/hydrogen peroxide regimen, and never mentioned about eroding the enamel off my teeth. I'll check with him when I go for my next cleaning in June. Vegan Life - wow. I never would have thought about my tastebuds being harmed by the hydrogen peroxide. I do dilute it when I use it to rinse my mouth; no bad effects from this, either. Worko
