Hi Rischott, Why do I need to eat raw salmon and egg yolks or animal food for my brain? Could you please back up you claims with some scientific research or refereneces? I've consided the raw-but-not-vegan approach before, especially when I was keeping chickens and could get eggs so fresh they are warm. But I feel the raw-vegan thing workings fine for me. I'm in no way dissing the incl

I see flax used a lot in raw food recipe books. Of all the things I looked up flax had the most in the way of essential amino acids. I use a lot of flax in the things I make, so yay for flax/lin seeds. The greens thing is probably still doable, but I think mono type diet is bad and doomed to starvation (your crop fails) or longer term health problems (missing some trace element). Although f

Thanks it's nice to see some data like that. The www.nutritiondata.com website is kind of interesting. Looking up coconuts and cashews, it doesn't seem to hard to make the RDA. But doing on spinach and broccoli alone is probably not a good idea. Eating flax is gooooood. But I don't see hemp listed (oh yeah, happy 4/20 for all you, ah, never mind). Thanks, Ian.

Hi. The 8 essential amino acids you already gave are a good start. But how many grams of each do you need? Is the 12 to 15% minimum RDA really that useful if it's not in any units (hopefully I'm not supposed to include water in whatever unit the 12-15% isn't in). And noooo, I'm not daring anybody to eat gelatin, just saying that when we are given a figure like "eat %15 protein"

Hi kohlrabi_Croce, How much protein do you need? Also, when quoting the % of protein in a certain food, it might be worth calculating the % from the point of view of energy/cals. Spinach is over 90% water, if you take the water away and then see what you are getting, it's doesn't look so bad. Generally I've found there is not a lot of good science info on how much protein we need. For

I just juiced my first sweet potato! Drank it mixed with some orange, carrot and apple juice, yummy. Although I noticed something strange, there was thick layer of very fine silt at the bottom of my juice jug. It's white and quite starchy. I think there might be some interesting uses for this, maybe it could be mixed with some fine crystal raw sugar and some mint oil/juice, then dehydrated un

I made these again last night, dehydrated them over night and just had them for lunch. They came out great again. This time I actually managed to put some avo for butter, tomato and olive bits on them (well, half of them I ate plain). The only thing I really did differently was to use kale instead of parsley and added a little extra hemp oil (which really helped the doe to stop sticking to m

Hi Rob, how do you prepare your artichokes? The only time I've had them they where steamed or boil. Do you eat just eat the hearts? Or can you eat the leaf/petal things without heating them to soften them up? I've eaten thistles raw before, for that we'd peel the flower and eat the little nickle sized heart in the center. (Not a lot else to do growing up in the Highlands.) Cheers, I

Hi Isabelle, Yes we can eat raw Garbanzo beans without sprouting them (I eat a half LB right out the shells two days ago). I've not tried sprouting fresh Garbanzo beans, but have tried sprouting dried Garbanzo beans and didn't really like them. Cheers, Ian.

Hi Squidmafia, Fresh Garbanzo beans like look Edamame, but maybe slightly fatter. Pop them open and you'll find one or two yummy beans inside. I find the dried and sprouted ones too bitter and starchy, but these are very yummy. I still need to try and make some hummus with them. Cheers, Ian.

One piece survived over night in the dehydrator. It turned out pretty good. This would make really nice pizza crust. Ian.

Hi, I was trying some experiments in the dehydrator today, thought I might share my research. I've been wanting to play around with rising agents and raw food for while. Today I did and I'm impressed. Here's what I did. - 1 lbs carrots - 1 bunch parsley - 6 desert spoon fulls of flax seed - 1/4 teaspoon for baking soda (Sodium Bicarbonate) - a pinch of salt - dash of oil (I

Hi, thought I'd say that it's Garbanzo Bean season again and they can be bought fresh at some stores and markets (mainly latino or middle-easten), at least in California any way. They taste way better than the dried/sprouted bean. I think I'll make some raw hummas with them (if I don't eat 'em all first). Cheers.
