Misery's Fence
Jeez, I can't believe I found my old posts! A year to the day after my last post--Aug. 30, 2009--Sweetie passed. We had become officially engaged the Christmas before, and were going to start planning a wedding. Having been widowed once before, this was a real setback for me emotionally, and I stopped giving a rat's ass about taking care of myself. My arthritis has gotten crippling, so I'

I never measure anything, so sorry for the vagueness. This is incredible when I'm jonesing for Indian food. In a blender, add: frozen mango splash of aloe juice enough coconut water just to cover the mango (more or less, it you like it thicker or thinner) big handful of cilantro small chunk (1/2 inch, maybe?) fresh ginger curry powder to taste (1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon, more or less)

Thanks! I went ahead and got the extra barrel. The main advantage I see of the automatic sprouter over jar sprouting is volume (seriously, it isn't a major PITA to rinse your seeds/sprouts every day); also, if you're busy, or away for the day (or the weekend), you don't have to worry about forgetting. I believe each barrel has the capacity for about 1 lb. of sprouts. I started the first

Has any one tried this? Opinions? Pros? Cons? Reading the instructions online, it sounds like you can only grow one batch at a time (put 1 disc into the barrel, top with seeds, then top with the other disc), But in almost every picture they show, it looks like there is a batch growing on the top disc, as well as on the bottom. I'm contemplating splurging for one, but don't know if I sho

I just joined a co-op of sorts where I receive a 'surprise box' each week. This week I received 2 beets, a big bag of green beans, 2 kinds of lettuce, corn, and tomatoes (among other stuff that I've already eaten!). ;-) I can deal with the lettuce and tomatoes (salad), the corn (I have a yummy curried corn recipe) and the green beans (which I've eaten raw since childhood anyway). But any ide

I'm not sure what kind of foods you're looking for, but there is a company in called Go Raw that makes granola, "cookies," and bars that are dehydrated rather than cooked. From a bag of cookies: Gluten Free / Wheat Free / Nut Free / All Live (Dried Under 105 F) / All Seeds Sprouted / No GMOs / No Trans Fats / No Cholesterol / All Hand Made / All Raw Kitchen / All Family Owned The

One of my fave summer salads is tomato, cucumber, and avocado all chopped, with a squeeze of lime and a pinch of dill. Chopped apples and walnuts, with a drizzle of whatever liquid sweetener you use (agave, raw honey, or whatever) and a dash of cinnamon; my carnivore fiance LOVES this. For the other fruits, I agree with a smoothie, or perhaps a fruit salad with mint. Or a yummy gazpacho

OK, I was a bad girl last night. But I find that having the mindset of being 'mostly raw' takes away a lot of the pressure and guilt. In the past, striving for 100% raw and slipping up led to days and even weeks of eating cooked. Putting the intention in my head that I am NOT going to be 100% (at least, not yet) makes it much easier to get back on track when I do. Yesterday's meals: Br

Fantastic! Congratulations! :-) I'm sorry about the other board. I work for the pharmaceutical research industry, and it's heartbreaking how many people would rather be medicated for the rest of their lives than give up their destructive, but comfortable habits. To them, taking a pill every day for the rest of their lives is far less intrusive than eating well and getting a little exercise.

Interesting topic; I too am at the age where my "female stuff" is all out of whack, and I'm curious to see what nearly 100% raw does in that regard. Will it regulate my cycles (which are now anywhere from 2 to 10 weeks long)? Or, considering that it's natural/normal for a woman my age to be experiencing this, will a natural diet not have any affect? My sweetie would like to have ch

I've been raw on and off for several years. Being 75% raw isn't difficult--I love fruits and salads--but it's the social aspect of getting together for dinner with friends, etc.,that keeps 100% out of my reach. That said, here's my intake for the day: Breakfast--red grapes Snack--gazpacho with avocado and dehydrated flax crackers, kombucha Lunch--large salad with baby greens, herbs from

When I first went raw, I lost my appetite, too. I figure that for the first time, I was really nurturing my body by giving it what it needed, so I was satisfied with much less than when eating SAD (i.e., quality over quantity). My appetite eventually came back, after I got used to eating this way. Unless you are ill, or have some sort of medical condition such as diabetes, etc., you're proba

Thanks for your input! :-) I do have a combination of cold symptoms (congestion, coughing, sore throat) and flu symptoms (fever, chills, headache, dizziness). I guess I have it in my head that there is some magical food that I should be eating to feel better, but nothing sounds good straight from the fridge (with chills, I'm cold enough as it is). I set a bowl of gazpacho out to warm up to

I have a terrible head cold, and absolutely nothing raw (or cooked, for that matter) appeals to me. What do you all eat when you're congested/coughing/etc.? I've been forcing raw lemonade w/ginger and herbal tea, and a few bites of extremely spicy homemade gazpacho w/lots of garlic and chiles. I'm also taking 3 grams of vitamin C a day, plus enough zinc to kill an elephant. I have a fridge

I think the Mock Turkey Loaf on this site tastes more like stuffing than turkey. I'd use a bit more onion. Peace and Blessings, Suzy PS--The Mashed Taters are good too, but with the cost of raw macadamias, it's a rare treat :-)

I'll add my 2 cents--I made these (without the icing) and they are unbelievable. I swear they're even better than cooked brownies! Peace and Blessings, Suzy
