Wow, Prism, your story is so inspiring! I'm so glad your sciatica is gone. My mother has sciatica or pseudosciatica and she is raw 3 months with me to try and cure it. It is almost gone for her now. I am far less anxious when speaking in front of others than I was before and have lost the aches an pains I used to carry with me. I can relate to the weight gain as I have started to gain too

I am newly raw and would love to hear about the experiences of those who have gone before me. I am wondering if people would be willing to share some "milestones," or observations that stand out in their raw journies. For me, I can only state what has happened in my 3-month, experience but I wonder if others can recall times when they knew they had gotten to another level in their spiri

Thanks, DC. I do eat lots of nuts and have thought of growing wheatgrass and buying a wheatgrass juicer. Philosophically and spiritually I know vegan is the right way. Here's to all of our healing...

I'm with Mama Cass - who writes like a poet - I did Green smoothies for a year and a half before my Vitamix broke and I switched to green juice in my Champion juicer. It was like someone flipped a switch on my level of health - it took off and I've never looked back. Juicing feeds my cells like no other thing. I get plenty of fiber throughout the day 'cause my juicer doesn't fit in my purse...

I've been raw 3 months now and in my first month, I "slipped" and ate some cooked food. I had 3 corn chips with hummus & about 1/2 cup of some baked corn casserole with cheese in it. I had stuffy sinuses, sore throat, and a mild headache for a week. I also felt extremely run-down... I've had a similar reaction eating salad with oil dressing on it at a potluck (trying to be polite).

Thank you for your input, Jodi. Sorry I posted that here about the fish/caviar - I just re-read the title of the forum and realized it is Vegan! I was a long-time vegetarian for ethical reasons, but got extremely anemic so I ate fish. Now I'm in transition to raw. My mother is a vegan raw fooder and she was even more anemic than me which is really bad. But she cured that through wheatgrass! I'm

I've only been raw 3 months but I do think that my dreams are less vivid and I recall them less on the whole. I used to enjoy my active dream life, but now I enjoy my waking life so much more, so I'll take this trade-off!

Shaine, Thank you so much for this post. Everytime I hear someone say this, it renews my commitment to not going off of raw even one tiny bit. I appreciate hearing about your experience. That is what happened to me in my first month raw when I ate cooked food... It amazes me how quickly the negative symptoms come and how long they last. Raw is the way and I realize I have to put a lot of ener

Thank you, Betty! That is a great trick - turning off the lights and lying down. I just came off a weekend of camping with 2 other couples and 2 children. I found myself getting irritable and couldn't leave the weekend fast enough. It felt so nice to just be with my husband again. You've allayed my fears about the teaching thing. I know I'll be exhausted. Luckily I don't have any kids of m

10. Caviar
It is Crown Prince wild caught alaskan coho salmon caviar. Someone I met at a raw food potluck said he'd had great luck using it to get protein. (He said he tried the more expensive refrigerated type but noticed no difference. Also he said he called the company and feels comfortable with the way they produce the caviar.) I've also eaten a tiny bit with sashimi one night at a restaurant. Good

Shaine, I know what you mean about not wanting to be preachy. I know I shouldn't judge others - that everyone has their own path and is free to take it. But I sometimes wonder if others' discomfort with rawness has to do with guilt over their own food choices. Not sure. I know I myself have many issues around food, so maybe I am just jealous of these people who seem to be able to eat anything

I am 3 months raw and have just come off a weekend camping with 8 cooked people. I enjoyed the weekend, but I must say it was a tad challenging to watch them eating every tasty indulgence they thought to bring with them. After the weekend was over, I had my husband take me to a raw restaurant where I had a lovely raw gourmet meal. Man, that felt good! We are talking about camping again with

Wow! What a great idea, Betty, I want to read the HSP book! I scored a 23 and am currently reading a book called The Introvert Advantage. (The first 1/3 of the book was very comforting and affirming to me. The rest isn't as insightful) I am definitely an introvert who is highly affiliative--I need to talk to other people. I am an INFP (Introverted intuitive feeling perceiving) on the Myers-B

What a cool post - I was just writing on another post about feeling more connected to other people now that I'm raw. Rawnoggin, I could really relate to your post. I used to have the type of defenses you describe. Being raw, I feel like my heart is opening and I am more in the moment and appreciative of everyone and everything. Today I am hardworking, persistent, hopeful, reflective, int

Patty, I love that description - happy go lucky kooky hippy chick! (My husband calls me kookybird!) For now I too think it's best to stay in the "raw closet" except for with other raw foodists and close friends. It's not that I'm hiding it but just phrasing it a different way... Island Girl, that's EXACTLY the response I get: like I'm in a cult and have put myself in grave danger.

Whoops! I meant to say that I am NOW getting my cert to teach elementary school - trying to stay positive here! I've thought about your comment about the teacher's lounge and I picture myself eating in my classroom. Here at my company, I don't admit that I've gone raw. I just say I'm eating more fruits and veggies. I do get comments about getting skinny and I'm only on month 3 of being raw..

Thank you, Betty! Thank you for sharing... I am always amazed at how little people eat. But when I tell my diet to people, they think I eat sparingly. Just perspective I guess. Where are you teaching? I have taught college and ESL (in Japan and Mexico) and am not getting a cert to teach elementary. I'm glad I'll be through my raw transition before I start to teach.

Wow, Betty, that is so inspiring. Do you know what blood type you are? Or what Ayurvedic type? I am A+ and Vata. Would you share a typical day with me and approximately how many calories you take in? When I'm feeling tired, this lifestyle seems like a lot of work, so it helps me to hear that what I am doing might actually be a good thing! I am going to ask hubby to make his own di

You are all blessing me with your input and I am so grateful. Perbetty and IslandGirl, you both sound like you really understand where I'm at. IslandGirl, I realized later that I didn't mean to say NEVER skipping since you take Sunday off - but your concept of doing less if you are feeling like it - I like that since it still keeps the structure and habit-mold. Perbetty, thank you for sh

Well, I am a 46-year-old female, 3 months raw, and I have lost some weight. I am tall and lean to begin with. When I first went raw, I was 147 pounds and I am now about 132 pounds. In case anyone cares, I am A+ blood type and vata Ayurvedic type and a long-time vegetarian. My (cooked) husband just expressed a lot of concern that I am losing too much weight. I am getting blood work done ever

You guys are awesome! PerBetty, I am especially going to try the pecans and walnuts as well as getting back to some oils. I had a feeling about that dehydrated food...it just recreates my issues with cooked in a different way. About the exercise component, I should clarify that I had gotten unmotivated in the last few years as a cooked person too. I think I just feel so much more relaxed

I am only 3 months raw, so perhaps this is a symptom of detox, but I am having a hard time getting motivated to exercise. (I am 46 years old and not overweight.) On the plus side, being raw has helped me become more in the moment, mellower, and less concerned about what others think of me. I feel much more strongly rooted in my own base if that makes sense. On the downside, I am overeati

I have been juicing almost daily for the past month or so and am so grateful for it. I use a variation of Natalia Rose's Green Lemonade recipe. My goal is to juice 2x daily and do a juice "feast" one day a week. (My reality is once a day.) I was on green smoothies--made in the blender--but I feel like I absorb so much more in juice form. I feel very satisfied and healthy when I juice.
