I went raw (after 7 years of veganism) while nursing my 6 month old daughter. She's the healthiest kid ever, and almost never eats cooked food, now at 28 months. She's all about nursing or eating fruit, raw nuts/seeds/butters, green smoothies, etc... I'm of the belief that as long as I'm putting only raw foods in my body and drinking tons of pure water to keep me flushed out, any "toxin

No good, guys. The noises continue to get louder (the whine is now a scream, and it's quite disturbing). I guess I'll have to call someone. It's been only a week. Should I return to the business I got it from for an exchange or just call the manufacturer?

Okay, I ran it one more time just to see (plus I had everything ready to go for my juice...granny smith apple, wheatgrass, blueberry and strawberry), and it seems like the clanking goes away when I start putting bulky things in (and is replaces with the whine, or whistling sound). So...is this just a Greenstar thing? The clanking was definitely louder this morning than when I used it yester

Another GreenStar noise question: Should it sound like the metal parts are grinding together? The grinding and clanking sounds only happen when it's put together fully. When I don't have the outermost section (but am keeping the gears in the middle section with my palm), there is no noise when I turn it on. Smooth and quiet. I only tried that because I was trying isolate where the sound

I just had this exact same mess, but with watermelon. I ran a carrot through, which made it overflow even more, but cleared out the clog. Yum, carrot-melon juice.

What a relief about the whine! It seems to be working very well, but I'm unfamiliar to all the nuances of this particular machine so I thought I'd check with someone who knows. Same with pushing things through. I haven't tried nuts--after trying frozen fruits I was kind of nervous to--but my husband and kids want some fresh nut butter so I guess I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the tips.

Okay, so my Greenstar is here and already a most beloved kitchen appliance. It runs *so* quiet (after my Champion that was a huge surprise!) *except* when I start putting things that aren't wheatgrass in (i.e. bulky stuff, so far celery and apple, mostly). Then it starts whining. A long, continuous whine. Not horribly loud or anything, just present (but less when I run dryer stuff through).

I hate wet pulp. I'll run it through my Champion time and again, and by the time it starts feeling dry, it is also getting warm. Ick. And really, I'm just lazy enough not to want to clean two juicers every day. Even to save a couple hundred dollars. :-)

So the Back-to-Basics is better than the Z Star manual juicer? I see vastly different opinions all over... I get wheatgrass juice whenever we go to juice bars and such, I like it plenty. Leafy greens I like juiced with other veggies, which means I'd have to do both juicers at the same time. Or maybe I'd just get used to plain green juices. Hm. Must think on this some more.

If I already have a perfectly good Champion juicer, but want to be able to juice wheatgrass and other greens, should I purchase a GreenStar to have one juicer that does it all, or just buy a good wheatgrass juicer and keep the Champion for other stuff. Or, can wheatgrass juicers even juice other greens? It's just that I'm not going to be able to sell my Champion for much, and it'll be a hassl

Thanks, LikeItOrNot. I don't think I'd ever do a straight fruit juice, I usually put fruit in to make the veggies more palatable. I'm glad you mentioned about the pump. I don't know if I'd even *want* juice that's days old. I just see things advertised and I'm the naive type who believes everything, so I thought I'd ask.

This is probably a stupid question, but could I sprout the organic wheat I buy to grind into flour for my family's bread? I buy 50+ lbs at a time, so that would sure be convenient...

Oh, God, so many questions... Do I *need* the knobber for the soft fruits? Pulpy juice screen? Is the only difference in the 1000 and 2000 the pulpy juice screen? Thanks again, and sorry to be so dense. It's really late here.

Also, can the juice really last a few days after juicing? I'm so used to the champion, where I have to chug it asap.

I hate my champion. I want something that will juice anything. I suffer from fibromyalgia and multiple chemical sensitivities and regular raw isn't cutting it for me...I feel really led to start juice fasting. I see that Juicin' John guy talking about Green Star a lot, and he's totally convinced me. Where can I find the best price? Vitality plus has the 1000 model for $345 including ship

My whole family isn't all raw, but we've been vegan since my first baby was born and they are the healthiest kids I know. Of course, since vaccines are vegan or even vegetarian for that matter, the kids are un-vaxed. They've never had to take antibiotics, tylenol, cough syrup, *anything*. I attribute it to living a clean lifestyle, where their bodies are allowed to develop and function the way

I just made some almond milk and I was thinking that since I have my dehydrator going already and there's an empty tray, maybe there's something I could make with the leftover almond meal. I haven't tried dehydrating in years (since the first time I tried to go raw so I'm open to any ideas... Thanks!

I need some crackers or something! I'm craving crunchy stuff and dried seaweed just isn't cutting it. But my dehydrator is the old-school doughnut-shaped one and the only sheets it has to keep things (like tiny sprouted flaxseeds) from falling through the trays is just plastic, which I imagine gets no airflow and isn't conducive to quick dehydrating. Are there teflex sheets for this kind of

Oh, wonderful! These are just what I needed. I've always eaten very spicy food and I miss Indian food especially. Could I use garam masala instead of the rasam? I don't have any chilis at the moment.

... I guess I've never gotten one of the "difficult coconuts. I whack them once on my front porch, let the juice drain from the crack into a bowl, and then whack it one or two more times to get it completely apart. Maybe I'm talented, lol!

While my family is vegan and I strongly believe in not consuming animal products, I'd seriously consider switching from formula to somthing else asap. Many mothers who are unable to breastfeed use raw goat or even raw cow milk, which at least has the enzymes needed to help the human body digest it. Maybe even look into making oat milk or something. I love it, myself. Soak oat groats, blend an

I did weight watchers for about 4 months and lost 25 lbs, then went mostly raw and didn't lose for about 3 weeks. I was kind of panicking, thinking that I'd made myself plateau. Then all of a sudden *BAM* I lost another 20 lbs in a 5 week period. In the last month, though, I've only lost 5 lbs. During the last few months I've been 100% for only about 3-4 weeks, the rest of the time it was aro

Thanks for the reality check, everyone. Like I said in the original post, we haven't used honey in many years, since we became vegan. I'm not sure why I faltered in my resolve there. I'm just not used to having cravings at all, *ever*, so I've never really had to face one down. I suppose it could have been worse. My husband and kids are not 100% raw (except my 9mo, who is only on breastm

My main concern as a vegan, of course, is the treatment of bees. Which I know nothing about. Beekeepers can claim anything, especially if they know what you want to hear. Supposedly the apiary near me (and many others) only take the surplus because bees make much more than they need. But still, I wonder. If I cut down my use of sweeteners to what I used before going raw, my jar of honey wi

Before going raw I used grade b maple syrup and rice syrup only for sweetening. Agave was just too sweet for me then and I really didn't see that it had any nutritional benefit so I didn't bother with it. Now it seems like agave and honey are my only choices if I'm going to be 100% raw. Raw agave and raw local honey cost about the same going by the HFS cost, although the honey is really ch

I've been one of those anti-honey vegans for nearly 7 years, but so many raw people use honey, and in a moment of weakness, I bought a jar of raw honey from a local apiary. It's delicious, and I've missed eating it for so many years, but I feel like I should feel guilty about the bees. I do, a little. My husband is a little disturbed that I'm going back on my beliefs, and kind of gave me a har
