I've been 85-100% raw for 2 months, 100% for the past two weeks. My kids and husband are very open to it, but then again, my kids are lifelong vegans and my husband is a vegan of nearly 7 years so they are used to eating healthy, whole foods. My kids in particular, eat at *least* 50% raw anyways because they love fruit, avocadoes, and raw nut butters and have always eaten lots of them. They

Oh, I'm sure I got the fat and salt naturally occuring in foods. But I never ate any "fatty" foods like nuts/seeds (except flaxseed for the omegas) or oils. I haven't eaten fried anything for years and years, and even when I'd splurge on some vegan chocolate, it was never more than one bar over the course of 2 or more weeks. I was pretty much eating McDougall-style, and besides that,

Thanks a lot for the advice. I've found that after a few days of craving tahini cheese, I've moved on to something new (nori rolls with avocadoes, hot peppers, and shredded carrots) so maybe it's a matter of getting my fill. As a whole foods vegan, I never ate a lot of fat or salt. I rarely craved those things, so they were almost never added to my food. That's why I'm so nervous now abo

I've only been doing the raw thing about 6 weeks, but my milk supply was excellent with fruits, dates, nuts and coconut, flax seeds, and a huge salad with a full head of romaine every day. I'm eating a higher percentage of fats right now than usual and I don't think I'm as "full" as I was when eating mostly fruits. My baby is 8 months old and doesn't eat solids so I'm having to make

I'm new to this raw thing, I guess I started 6 weeks or so ago with 80-100% raw every day, but it was easy to eat a bunch of salads and stuff because to be honest, it felt temporary. But the better I felt, and the more weight I lost (15 lbs the first 5 weeks), the more I felt like I wasn't going to be able to go back to eating cooked vegan (I've been one for almost 7 years). Which was fine in t

Oh, Angel, help me love my spiral slicer! I've had it for about 7 years and have never been able to make anything turn out good. I love zucchini, so I don't know what the deal is. What veggies do you recommend? What sauces?

I've been a vegan for 7 years (whole foods--no processed foods, low fat, high copmplex carbs) and had a weight problem the whole time. I'm kind of a fat-phobe when it comes to foods, but since I've been mostly raw (almost a month) I find myself craving fats. Each day I eat at least 1 avocado, also raw nuts, dates and other dried fruits, coconut, tahini, etc, but I balance it with a head or tw

I, personally, was able to let go of my bulemia when I became vegan about 7 years ago. I felt purified, like I wasn't eating pain and death (mine, the animals', the planet earth's...). I don't know how to describe it exactly. It was almost a spiritual awakening. I became amazingly attuned to my body and everything that wasn't beneficial was...let go. I mean, literally, I opened my hands and

Hmm...I've been using tea tree and/or lavendar oil and they both seem to help. It's not cleared up yet, but it's getting there. I'll look for the red clover salve next time I'm at the HFS. Thanks for the suggestion. I don't really vary greens, either. I pretty much only eat romaine for my leafy greens. When I was eating a little cooked food I'd eat turnip greens and collards too, but I do

I like www.thegardendiet.com a lot. Simple, tasty recipes, a forum, vids, blogs, stuff to buy (I'm totally buying their documentary!)...it's fun.

Are itchy hands ever a symptom of detoxing? It's only on random spots on my hands, and there are a few tiny, skin colored bumps. I've had these symptoms before (a couple times a year, usually on one spot on one hand), and now it seems all at once. I've been mostly raw for 3-4 weeks, lost about 14 lbs, but now that I'm almost 100% this symptom has come to the surface. I recently had bloodwor

Okay, I ate very little today, about 1200 calories. It consisted of a Lara bar, a fruit smoothie with raw almond butter, and a taco salad (mostly salad with cooked beans, heavy on the avocado, plus some fruit. I did the fitday.com thing, just to see what I was eating (it felt like a lot, and while I'd like to lose weight, I'm breastfeeding and I need to make sure I'm getting my nutrients).

Wow! All these suggestions are awesome, guys. A couple hours away from me there's a big health food store with a huge book collection and a place to browse through them, so hopefully some of the books you suggested will be there for me to check out. Thanks!

Thanks everyone! Since I only want the occasional dehydrated goody, I think my old dehydrator will do the trick.

I see all these delicious-sounding recipes for burgers and tortillias and desserts and want to try a couple, but all I have is a crappy old-style dehydrator. You know, the kind that's stacks of donut-shaped trays? Can I use that or do I need something else? What are people using? Thanks! Shayla

Which one should it be? What is the raw "bible", the one "everyone" uses and loves? All the books I've looked up seem like they'd be helpful and like they'd have really yummy recipes, but I can't afford them all. Which one will help me the most now, in the beginning of my journey. I want something that will provide some inspiration. I'm looking for some tips/tricks fo

I had a rough first raw(ish) week. Maybe I detoxed too hard. Anyways, I ran out of food (wow, who'd have thought raw would be more expensive than organic whole foods vegan?) and was all, "eh, I'm taking the day off." Big mistake. Huge. Every bite honestly felt like poison, especially the flour products (I ate muffins I made out of organic whole wheat I mill myself). Now, don't g

Thanks for all the tips. I didn't realize I'd need to each so much on a mostly raw diet, but it makes sense with breastfeeding. I've been pregnant, breastfeeding or both for the past 7+ years so you'd think I'd know better. I'll try to add some fats and berries. Tonight I ate a small handful of raw almonds and it was very satisfying. And I have avocadoes for the kids, I just didn't think o

Not to mention, my face is breaking out. I use the OCM for my face and it's kept my skin looking lovely for 2 years now, and now my face looks worse than when I was a teenager. It's dry and flakey with red patches and *pimples*. Is this a symptom of detoxing from cooked foods as well?

Firstly, I'm not 100% raw yet. I've been led to try to maintain at least 80-85% raw for the time being, so that's where I've been for the past 4 days. It's kind of a struggle which surprises me. I never struggled with veganism, no trasition time or anything, it was like a lightswitch and I never craved anything non-vegan again. And since I've been an organic, whole-foods vegan for almost 7 ye
