Hey everyone, Been absent from the boards for a few days, and it was a real treat to come back and catch up with you guys! I've actually been down for the count with a cold for the past 2-3 days; caught it from my visiting Mom, I think, but could have been the gym as well -- apparently this thing's been going around. Low fever, stuffed head, sinus pain, nasal drip, cough...fun!! At any rate

Loretta, it's on my fridge too! AM: Smoothie - banana, mango, tangerine, dates, spinach, maca, e3live, water, ice LUNCH: veggie summer roll w/ avocado, lettuce, carrot, cucumber, wrapped in tapioca paper (not raw, but I didn't eat all the wrapper, just took a few bites, then pulled out the filling) w/ sweet chili dipping sauce. Also, 1 raw taquito w/ mango salsa PM: spinach/broccoli/co

I'm glad the motto's catching on! Love it! As for me, I guess my big news is that I finally joined a gym. I can't really afford it, but my physical therapist (for my knee) badgered me into it. I couldn't really argue with her "do it or never walk right again" logic. I'm actually pretty excited. I was very active back in NYC (running in the park, cardio at the gym, bikram yoga), a

I second Cru (Sunset & Griffith Park Blvd, in Silverlake). Nearby there's also Cafe Flore, which is vegan, but has several raw selections and is also reasonably priced. There's also Erewhon Market, on Beverly Blvd @ Stanley, kind of near The Grove. It's got a pretty impressive focus on raw, with lots of raw staples, prepared raw, homeopathic remedies, organic produce - even pints of raw i

Hey everybody, I've been busy with a visit from my parents for the past few days... I got the expected passive aggressive critique as far as raw is concerned (mom: "there's nothing left of you!), but they've actually been relatively supportive. Last night we all (mom, dad, brother, boyfriend, me) went out to Real Food Daily, a vegan restaurant w/ some raw. Of course, I TOTALLy intended

AM: Smoothie - banana, pear, peach, spinach, coconut oil, e3live, water, ice LUNCH: living wrap from Real Food Daily - collards, guac, sunflower seed cheese (it's supposedly in there, but I think they skimped), greens, w/ citrus dressing DINNER: watercress w/ drizzle of olive oil&lemon, mango salsa, little bit of grilled salmon SNACK: choco-banana nut mil

hey guys, I didn't post yesterday, but speaking of getting stuck in eating ruts...yeah, yesterday looked almost identical to today: Tuesday, Sept. 11th: AM: Raw "cereal" - chopped banana, white peach & raspberries, sprinkled w/ a few crushed nuts, with almond milk, honey & cinnamon. LUNCH: Salad - mache, baby spinach, green beans, cucumber, tomato, basil, chantarell

I saw the box fan method on Good Eats!! Haven't gotten around to trying it, but sounds a lot better to me than blowing hundreds on an Excaliber. And the open oven method does work nicely, although it's a bit of a waste of energy (not to mention unbearable on hot days).

Busy weekend! Can barely remember what I've been eating lately, but I'm happy to report it's been 100% raw, except for some green tea. God yes, fresh. I just want to move until I can't anymore. If only I could bend my knee... Khale, I'm glad that venting a little helped. More power to ya. As for yesterday, I had a smoothie in the morning, the usual. Then for dinner we went to celebrate at a raw cafe in Redondo Beach called Terra Bella. Had 1/2 a cacao/maca smoothie, 1 raw taco ("refried beans," guac, salsa, etc,

Hey everyone! Sorry to have been MIA the past few days...it's been a busy weekend, though in a good way, for the most part. Lots of labor day shenannigans, lots of SAD eaters around. Stayed raw for the most part, though, so I'm happy about that! Sunday night some friends had a party they named "wine science," in which everyone brought a cheap trader joe's wine and we did blind taste

I've found that drinking water made an enormous difference in my skin. I never had problem skin when I was younger, and then -lo and behold- I was suddenly 27 with bonafide acne. Now, 1 month raw, my skin has totally cleared up. I try to drink at least 2-3 liters of water per day, minimum, and really think this has as much effect as my diet. Also, I try to eat a moderate amount of ski

Hey rawdancer! My absolute FAVORITE raw cookbook is Raw Food Real World by Matthew Kenney & Sarma Melngailis. They're the chefs who opened Pure Food & Wine in New York City, which is far and away the best raw restaurant I've ever been to - and their book includes many of their menu items. I also like Raw by Juliano, but for me at least, both his book & his restaurant come in a dist

I second both the pride in rawdancer and the concern for khale. My thoughts are with both... I had the same experience as chickory last time I went raw. I dropped from 5'8 or so & 130 lbs (a BMI of 19.8, right in the range) to 112 lbs (BMI: 17, well underweight) in the course of 3 months. I never made it to the normalized stage, instead falling off the proverbial wagon out of concern (everyone thought I was anorexic, and frankly, my appearance started to scare me). Right now I'm a

Wait, seriously? How long does it usually take? Last time I was raw (this is a second attempt) I was 100% for six months, and while my whites definitly got whiter (strangers would comment!), I didn't see any color change. I've been a brown-eyed girl all my life. Is the effect that of a low-fat raw diet (i.e. 80-10-10) or any raw diet? I do eat a fair amount of avocado, seeds, olives, nuts, etc

Wow. That is both depressing and irritating. About half that list contains things I eat & enjoy...on what is already a hugely restrictive lifestyle requiring intense dedication. I'm sure I'll bear it in mind next time I'm stocking the pantry, but personally I'm probably gonna keep on keepin' on with my "raw" tahini and my "raw" nori and my "raw" cashew butter.

Here's one of my favorites: 1 Tbsp raw tahini 1 - 2 tsp raw honey (depending on how sweet you like it) 1 tsp finely diced shallot 1/2 lemon, juice of 1/4 tsp cumin whisk in enough water to create a dressing consistency (rather than a paste) Easy, Raw & Delicious!!

I agree wholeheartedly with suncloud, rawdancer. Either your doctor is being negligent, or else he is lacking critical information regarding your condition. However, I assume from your other posts that you've been treated in the past for AN, which should be part of your medical history. Any doctor worth his salt who sees a patient with a history of ED should NEVER be so dismissive of relapse (or

Rawdancer, I hope the rest is just what you need. Loretta, good luck with the detox. I've found that both times I've gone raw, there's definitely been an adjustment period that feels lousy, esp. as my body gets used to deriving its energy from things other than simple carbs, refined sugars, etc. But as Khale also said, take good care of yourself and pay close attention to your body. It could
