Good stuff, that wheat grass, especially the juice. I wonder why the hipster juice bar in my neighborhood charges $4.00 for a one ounce shot of it? especially in this nauseating economy

I'm a tall guy. I have no back pain. I may be an oddball. I do a lot of yoga. And I think Iyengar yoga really, really helps with back and neck and shoulder issues. Also, is 95 the new 75?

"Cuervo believes maintaining efficient protein clearance may improve longevity and function in all the body's tissues. It is also possible that the same kind of "cellular clearance" can be achieved through diet, she says. Research over the past decade has shown that restricted calorie intake in animals, including mammals, significantly enhances longevity. "My ideal i

CR with optimal nutrition is the only proven method to increase longevity. Nothing stops the aging process. The question of what optimal nutrition means remains mostly speculative. We can say "eat a wide variety of raw plants" and keep your calories low, but I don't think the science exists (yet) to say CR with raw veganism is the answer.

Arugula, what diet do you think she's suggesting? And about protein: I get around 60-70 grams of plant protein a day. How much is enough, and is the plant protein we get sufficiently bioavailable? Also, do you think this article suggests that limiting protein may be better in terms of increased healthspan?

I break my 40-hour fasts with small meals of light fruit -- berries are great. I look at fasting as learning a new skill. Sure, you're going to make mistakes along the way just like you would in the pursuit of any new skill. Don't sweat your pasta, bread and frozen pizza meals -- your body forgives you! And the great thing is as long as you're still alive, you have more chances to eat the mea

Periodic fasting is not so difficult, really. And your energy levels probably won't flag as much as you presume. I think the body adapts quite well to intermittent fasting. Nor must you just curl up and sleep, forgo running, or skip anything else in your normal daily routine. Just: don't eat and be a little hungry. No big deal. I've been intermittent fasting more often lately. I fast onc

I don't mean to be alarmist, and I'm by no means offering medical advice. But from what you're writing, be prepared for the possibility that your appendix will rupture. When the "doubling up" right side abnominal pain you're describing intensifies, do not waste time, and do please go to the emergency room. If your appendix ruptures and you wait and if you let it go untreated, you co

Please please please keep close contact with a medical doctor. Even if your most recent CAT scan does not show inflammation in your appendix, do not play around with a potential rupture. You can die.

Sure, I've dated women who eat cooked meat in the past, and I would do so again in the future. Not a humongous deal for me what she eats, as long as she's not too freaked out by my own salad chomping habits.

Thanks, Arugula, for your great reply. I spend time listening to the paleo people argue that we should eat a small amount of meat for its animal protein benefits. But you're asserting that smaller amounts of protein seem to be more protective than larger amounts, and animal protein may be unnecessary. I admit ignorance, you know a lot, I'm picking your brain. I'm assuming you're basing the lo

My dentist. I really like her because she tends to take in the wide view. I asked her about mercury. "Eh," she said, "We tend to worry about the wrong things. Citrus, mercury... Now, riding your bicycle around in India for a month like you're contemplating, that, I think, would be more harmful to your teeth than citrus or mercury."

I asked my dentist the same question: Am I damaging my teeth by drinking daily lemon water? She said: "No, certainly not. You would have to eat many lemons raw, daily, for a long period of time before they would have any affect on your teeth."
