I'm a man, and people say bizarre things to me about my eating habits. People tell me I'm depriving myself, people tell me I'm too skinny, people tell me I don't eat enough protein, I eat too much sugar, I get too many carbs, I don't get enough healthy fat, people have even told me I'm not a real man because I don't eat meat. I laugh at them. I mean, I'm not just laughing out of spite, it's re

Yeah, I love grapefruit, too. I peel them and eat them like oranges. Especially in the summer, I eat them all day long. I posted this little cartoon because I think it's clever and funny.

I agree, it's nice to come here and not have to get into justification arguments. People really like to say how unhealthy vegans are, and it gets stupid. This place is an oasis from some of that stupidity. Thanks, Bryan. Besides, no one ever really "wins" these internet arguments, anyway, and nothing much is gained. There are, like, a billion internet sites where you can scream up

Good luck, man! I hope you have fun, and learn a lot in the process! I'm nearly 100% raw fruit, but I also love vegetables. And, when it gets cold, I just don't know how to stay warm and at peace with nothing but cold fruit -- even though it's delicious and nourishing. It also bothers me that if I stay 100% fruitarian during the winter, then I must depend upon fresh fruit that must be shipped

No, I'm not overly stoked with Michael Pollan. I like his foody message: eat food, not too much, mostly plant-based... But, unlike Pollan, I don't eat meat for reasons that are not simply due to health and nutrition, but for the humane, ethical and environmental reasons that are well known, and which he too easily ignores.

I eat berries for breakfast -- all mashed and blended up together with coconut water. When I run out of money because they're expensive, I eat other fruit for breakfast -- oranges, bananas, tangerines, apples, pears, I follow the seasons and I try to stay organic and local. Not always easy, sure. For lunch, I eat a big salad everyday that's just about identical: 3 or 4 cups of mixed greens,

The science says: eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. It says furthermore: sometimes eat some seeds, sometimes eat some grains. Don't eat much meat, it says, especially the red stuff -- but if you must eat meat, sigh, eat oily fish, but don't eat too much of it: we don't fully trust it. Don't eat dairy at all, and don't eat processed foods laden with chemicals, either. Don't shop in the mid

I'd like to meet someone, but it's difficult to meet women who aren't threatened by healthy eating habits. Women I meet... sigh... so many seem to have eating disorders and they end up feeling guilty about their own habits because of mine, and we end up out of sync. Maybe she's out there somewhere, I'm not forcing the issue, and I'm certainly not boring or gay. Not that there's anything wrong

There are eating and drinking related chemical processes that are different between men and women. Females appear to empty both solids and liquids more slowly than males; male livers secrete nearly twice as much of certain chemicals that transport toxic molecules, including drugs, out of cells; and females produce less of the gastric enzyme that breaks down alcohol in the stomach. After drinkin

Do you think grapes are too high in sugar to eat on a daily basis?

Yes, well, I didn't mean to suggest substituting McDonald's for healthy raw fruits and vegetables. But raw fruits are very expensive. Some of us are going through tough economic times. So in my own little raw journey here I'm beginning to do what Arugula wrote, and I'm now eating more sweet potatoes, and the cheaper (organic) vegetables like, yes, of course, sprouts, and whatever cheap organic

Also, I've simply been eating less. Living in a big American city, I simply cannot afford to be a fruitarian, especially as the cold creeps back in.

I know this issue has been addressed many times before, but I'm curious how you're faring in the worsening world economy. Is eating raw a pasttime for the rich, the rural, and only those who can afford to grow their own? The world of processed and cooked foods (eg, beans and rice, potatoes) is sooo much cheaper. So how can you be both healthy raw, and financially strapped?

I got a very intense thing on Sunday. It may have been something I ate, but I still haven't figured it out. I got some stomach pains, then quite suddenly, I was very hot and weak and my joints hurt. My whole body hurt -- skin, head, bones... All I wanted was sleep. So I laid pitifully in bed on Sunday and most of Monday, and briefly experienced what I thought was the flu. Then, just as

I love them, and I eat piggish amounts of them when they're in season. Like, right now! And as is often the case when I go on these weird food benders, I find myself researching and trying to learn more and more about what it is I'm putting so ravenously into my body. So I thought I'd pass this small bit of information about muscadines. Ellagic acid and quercetin interact synergistically

Were are ancestors vegan? When getting food is the most important thing in life, as it was for our ancestors, early humans could not afford to miss anything about animal behavior. The Bushmen of southern Africa, for example, are intimately acquainted with the way of life of more than fifty animals. They can follow a herd of antelope even over hard dry ground which holds only the very faint

I worked for a few years with bonobos, chimpanzees, and orangutans at the Yerkes Primate Center of Emory University in Atlanta. This was a language research lab, not an medical research lab. I was a entry-level research assistant, and my main duties were to clean cages, feed the primates, and generally hang out with the animals in symbolic language-learning pursuits. These were all captive

I made a terrible smoothie today out of a rotten pineapple. I thought the pineapple was okay -- smelled a bit fermented -- but it seemed edible. So I blended it up with strawberries, two papayas, and a young coconut. Eeee -- the entire affair was raunchy to the point of confession. I tried choking it down -- oh, I did -- but I finally gave up and glooped the heavy pink liquid down the sink an

Thanks for setting me straight, happyway. So what you're saying is Nelson Mandela was jailed for being a raw vegan NOT because of societal gender pressures regarding nutrition, but because it's hard to be a raw vegan? Please set me straight if I've not gotten the point yet again because -- pssst -- I'm not as nearly as bright and smart as you are.
