Kohlrabi, you are misreading the nutrition charts on the website you sent us. For example, look at the information for apples. It shows that 2% of an apple's calories come from protein -- very different from the 3/10 of a percent you are quoting (which is not based on calories but on gross mass). You have also misinterpreted the information you have read here. The point is not that the fruits

My wife's cousin and her husband have been raw for a while and suggested we try it. At first we were quite hesitant (it SOUNDS crazy), but it has solved all of my GI issues, we feel healthy and alive, and we love the way we

Here is my typical daily food intake: Breakfast: a fruit smoothie -- 1/2 pineapple, 1 banana, 1 mango, handful of blueberries, a little fresh coconut water if I have a young coconut at home, water, and ice. Snack: navel orange Lunch: Green juice (about 24 ounces -- 3 apples, 4 carrots, 3-4 stalks of celery, about 6 or 7 leaves and stalks of kale, a knob of ginger Snack: another ora

Marcos, Wow, that guy is ripped! I am much less bulky than that (I look more like your typical runner/swimmer). However, I like that he got that way without weights. I can't help but feel like that is a good thing, especially as my joints start reminding me that I am not 18 (or even 28) anymore. Cheers.

Hey there! I love the circus arts -- I was a gymnast and a diver for my entire life (until I graduated from college). Now I am a triathlete (not professionally, but I have thought about it). I eat raw and probably am competing better than ever before. I have been swimming faster, running longer and biking with more strength. I think that a smartly planned raw diet (not too much of any one th

And why is that on this website? I don't see the raw connection (maybe I missed it in the haze of bullets?). I think it wins a rottem tomatoes award personally.

I do cardiovascular workouts 6 or 7 days a week (running, biking and swimming, with a stray elliptical session tossed in when I feel like a break). I tend to do pull-ups and push-ups (isometrics) rather than weights, though I have been known to crank out a few reps with the iron. Generally I am more of a cardio fiend than a weight lifter.

This post is the kind that always makes me realize thath I am not a raw foodist in philosophy, only in practice. Cacao seems fine to me, I just find it gross in general. THere is a big difference between cocoa and raw cacao, and while I like cocoa (and am willing to have it eveyr once in awhile, even though I generally try to be 100% raw), I find no pleasure in cacao, and so it plays no role in

So you'd think. But they all simply think I am crazy and smile absentmindedly at me while they stuff their mouths full of fried foods. Yuck. I have convinced a couple of people to come out to lunch with me or share in a salad, but they all think it is just nuts. It's okay by me.

The theory (and I say theory because I am not a big believer in a lot of what I consider to be mumbo jumbo) is that raw nuts are full of enzymes in a dormant state, and if you soak them it reenergizes (or awakens) the enzymes so that the nuts become living foods. It then allows you to really extract the nutrients from the nuts. Whether it is true or not, I don't know. But as with a lot of thin

Master Cleanse (also known as the Lemonade Diet) is a cleansing fast whereby for a period of ten days you drink exclusively a specially formulated lemondae (fresh lemon juice, tepid water, maple syrup, cayenne pepper) to cleanse your body. You also drink a "cleansing tea" each evening to help, um, speed things up through your colon. Let me see if I can find the link. My wife did the

What is the natural Thyroid stuff you take? I take synthroid (I have no thyroid, having had it removed because of thyroid cancer). Congrats on the good news.

You could also try a Master Cleanse and THEN a raw diet. I have heard that this eases the transition as your body has the time to rid itself of the toxins of your old diet before you begin the new one. Either way, good luck!

Planta, you win. I've always wanted to go to Belize. I've heard it is amazing place. Oh, and sweterson, I lived in Denver before moving to New York City 5 years ago (I loved Denver...well, more than anything, I love the Rocky Mountains). Jen Rose, where are you moving in Miami? I grew up there. My entire family (parents, brothers, cousins, etc.) still live there (and think we are cr

I too have a herat murmur and I hae been premedicating for the dentsis my whole life (I also premedicated before I had my ACL reconstructed after a skiing injury). I have a cousin who died of a heart infection when he was just 21. He was an NCAA Division I baseball player and died in the middle of his season while just tossing the ball with a friend of his. Because of the infection his heart co

You know, it has been awhile, but I used to post at T-nation -- I always thought it was a great websiote -- vegan or not. You got off pretty lightly in my estimation -- people on every website (well, not this one so much) love to criticize and ridicule raw foodists. And hey, you got lost of compliments too.

Wow, I am impressed and amazed at the level of discourse that my original "wow, look what I found" post has started. I think that more than anything it shows that there is a broad spectrum of beliefs across which we all seem to fall. Some of us seem to be more toward the "100% raw is the only way to go and will, in the end save the earth, etc." and some seem to be more towar

My first month I could not get enough of nuts. Then I went totally ani-nuts, now I eat a good amount, but they are all soaked first (and seasoned, yum). I am a frim believer in eat what you body asks you to and you will find some equilibrium. I know that I feel best with a green juice during the day, and when I don't have one, I feel blech. My wife knows that she needs very few nuts, and if s

Yes, this seems to be a universal thing. There is a co-worker of mine who can't get her head around the fact that I am raw and what that means, and asks me if I want sushi about every three days (it's like she has a memory loss problem). She has also asked me (repeatedly) if I want egg salad, tuna salad, chocolate almonds and pretty much chocolate anything. In her mind being raw means eating c

With rice I know that if you soak certain wild rices for several days (I think 5 in one of the recipes) then they become more palatable. I don't know about brown rice (is it cooked in the process of preparing it for distribution?), but I would think that if you soaked it long enough (agai, several days) that could be edible too. You can eat many kinds of beans, soaking them and sprouting them (

Horsea: Does it really matter? You make your own food choices, I make mine, everyone makes his or hers. If you want to eat boiled bean soup (and it works for you), then I say go for it. If I want to not eat it (and it works for me), then I say I should be allowed to do so. I don't care if there is a 50-year raw vegan in great health. Raw veganism is a lifestyle that I embrace because I en

I did a search for Raw Food diet on Google (for fun) and came across this crazy website www.beyondveg.com. What in the world? It is so negative, and it attacks raw foodists, vegetarians, fruitarians, etc. I don't get why people are so negative about others' food choices. Live and let live. Yikes.
