Hello Fresh... yes fats are important for the proper functioning of the human body... Hormones are chemical substances, secreted by cells into the extracellular fluids, that regulate the metabolic function of other cells in the body. Most hormones are amino acid based yet some are steroids. The steroids are synthesized from cholesterol. Of the hormones produced by the major endocrine organs

Hello zenpawn...I think if you set the table with some guacamole, salsa, and perhaps some large lettuce leaves for wraps...perhaps 2 VERY hungry people up to 4 moderatly hungry people would be able to dine...Hmmm...now I'm curious...OH...was it the fat from the olive oil or the nuts and seeds that put you off...this recipie would probably work well with soaked and sprouted beans...the beans would

Hello pihourova...a spiralizer is a round hand operated slicer that can cut veggies into very thin slices or actually transform veggies, especially zukes, into very fine continuous slices reminiscent of angel hair pasta...just heavenly...Diana

I, unlike many others, did not lose weight when I first made the transition to raw foods...perhaps because I was busy preparing recipies that called for a lot of avocados, nuts, seeds, and beans...now I save the high calorie avocado, nut, seed, and/or bean meal for one decadent mid-week meal...although I do make sure that I am consuming a high quality oil at least once per day as I do not want to

The first place I go to in the regular grocery stores is the crash and burn bin...yesterday, for example...organic bananas for .40 cents/lb...since more people purchase organics at natural foods stores, and perhaps less at regular grocery stores, I usually find many organics on sale or priced about .20-.50 cents/lb more than regular produce...which really isn't that much more...ALSO... when you f

My boyfriend is not raw yet he eats what I prepare provided he enjoys it...otherwise he supports my endevors with this way of eating...and primarily anything else that I attempt to do...I find all of his other qualities surpass his not being raw...He is very much aware of the health benefits of a raw diet...yet he does not have any currant health problems...and I must say considering we are in ou

Hello...I too bloat when I consume apples, which I wish wouldn't happen because I LOVE THEM so much...and because I live in Northern Pennsylvania and I can get them locally...our indiginous fruit list isn't that lengthy here...I have started to grate them or blend them (just a tad) to help my body with the digestive process...also I have found that eating mono meals does help...especially with (a

Hello...I was just scrolling down the message list and I saw your post...First...please don't be frightened...there are many discussions on this site regarding fibroids...Although I think they were posted in the general discussion area...so...perhaps you could post your question there...I don't have fibroids but I wouldn't try anything that was too radical...also I wanted to answer your inquiry t

Hello Ksee...I'm not in Buffalo...although I did live in Erie from 1984-1991...I live in Scranton Pa now...it is hard to find people up north involved with raw foods probably because of our selection of indigenous foods and the availability of them...we don't have orange trees in our yards...although I do rent a huge space here...and I am considering installing Scranton's first indoor tropical Di

Dear Earthangel...I found your answer...Thank you...The cookbooks that I have say that brown rice is safe to sprout...I was just curious if I could grind it up with out sprouting it if I needed flour sooner than having to sprout and re-dry (I do realize that it would not have all of the nutritional benefits either)...I wasn't aware of the toxicity of un-cooked brown rice...Diana

Dear Earthangel...It's not that I didn't like your answer to my inquiry about brown rice flour...It's that I don't recall having seen it!...Perhaps an oversight on my part...Thank you though, for your answer to my question...It is greatly appreciated...Diana

Hi Fud...regarding the oil...you don't have to add oil...it just adds what is known as...in food science lingo...mouth feel...it adds a silky-ness to the consistency...adding a tablespoon of a lesser flavored nut butter...if you like them...would probably have the same effect...also blending or whipping foods adds air therefore creating volume...and when this happens when a fat is added or presen

Thanks for your answers...but I was refering to the brown rice that I already have that I usually sprout...actually I was wondering if at some time that I may need a dry ingredient to thicken something up, if I ground up the unsprouted dry rice, would this still be considered a raw food...Diana

I was wondering if brown rice, eventually ground into flour, would be considered a raw food...Some recipies use whole grains or even unsprouted or soaked seeds and nuts so I was wondering if on occassion if I use freshly ground brown rice would that be considered an acceptable raw food ingredient...Diana

Having purchased a spiralizer has made me a very happy Italian...I buy them for my friend as gifts all of the time...I'm trying, by suggestion, to de-glutenize my circle of friends and also the general supermarket public for that matter, about the joy of spiralizing their veggies...have a great day...Diana

Yes...Put about 2-3 cups of cut tomatoes in your blender along with about 2 cups of mushrooms of your choice cut in pieces although your blender will do the work...also fresh garlic to taste...some sea salt...fresh basil if you have it dried works also...AND...about 1/4 cup of olive oil...PULSE BLEND until you have a consistency you like...I add some hot pepper as I like it a little spicy...this

I realize the health potential of sprouting and soaking seeds, legumes, grains and nuts...but if I don't have time to soak, sprout and re-dry my brown rice...is it ok to grind my unsprouted brown rice into a flour and use that when I need a thickening agent that isn't a seed or a nut?...I am gluten sensitive so I have to watch which grains I do consume if in fact I use them...Also is this just a

Hello...I live in the Scranton, PA area and I know of a woman who is a raw foods instructor here in Northeastern PA She is a certified instructor through the Alissa Cohen program. I'm sure, since we are just north of Philadelphia she would probably know someone who would probably know someone, who should be able to help your friend...good old fashioned net-working...I hope it works...Diana...OH
