Eating vegetables, not fruit, helps slow down the rate of cognitive change in older adults, according to a study published in the Oct. 24, 2006, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology. In determining whether there was an association between vegetables, fruit and cognitive decline, researchers from Rush University Medical Center studied 3,718 reside

Arugula, I will look and get back to you on the studies. I am not at a place I can even look right now. As for the rat diet, I would only eat the wheatgrass, tomatoes and a few seeds. The other fruits are high sugar and produce some acid ash. There will be many who disagree with that statement. Let's just say that I cannot eat those fruits without getting too acidic and ultimately sick. H

Arugula, I agree with you. There are definitely exceptions to the rule of diet . This is definitely true with inherited genetic mutations. How do genetic mutations occur? DNA can be damaged by too much acid over time. Boy, do I sound like a broken record!!!! However, I question the raw diet of the rats in the Wigmore study. Do you know if their PH was being monitored? A raw lifestyl

Alive! Alkaline is everything, but not tooooo alkaline. The blood Ph should ideally be a 7.365. Our urine Ph should ideally be 6.5 to 8.5 with the lower Ph usually being in the morning. During the night our body works to dump acids created by the metabolic process, a natural occurrance. Dr. Robert Young says that pathogens cannot survive in properly ph balanced body fluids. He also bel

That breakfast might have been too much sugar for you. Have you ever had blood sugar imbalances? It doesn't sound like detox. It usually takes longer for the detox symptoms to appear.

My childhood was healthy by the know standards of the time. Every meal included milk, animal protein and two vegetables, all cooked. Fruit and raw veggies were comsumed in between meals. My grandmother had a farm which produced lots of fruits and veggies, but she also used pesticides and herbicides. I was rarely sick, never fat, and had energy to burn. I have always felt lucky to have had a f

I often get "hungry" but don't want food. I think it is just muscle contractions in the stomach when it gets empty. The raw food, smoothies and such, satisfy my body's logning for nutrients so that when the gnawing begins, I simply don't want to eat.

I think of having nothing but green smoothies as more of a cleanse. You are not really fasting in the real sense, but you can clean your body anyway. Greens are very cleansing. I have done this for no more than a week. I find that a quart of smoothie will last me for 6 hours if I sip it over that time (with lots of water too). It doesn't take much to fill me up at a time - just a cup or so

I just read something that possibly explains why it eating sweet fruit repulsive to me for the most part. This is from a link someone posted here: geocites.com regarding ANOPSOLOGY (Part one). I am still transitioning and so far only veggies, grasses, and low-sugar fuits have had any appeal. I have always wondered how some of you folks could eat so much fruit. "_What do you mean exac

Who says you failed? ANY move to a healthier diet is a tremendous success. Take the advice in the blogs above and move on. Don't let your "perfectionism" cause you to stop. Remember doing the raw food "thing" imperfectly will still bless your body. Give yourself more time. Allow yourself to be imperfect for now and celebrate the raw food you do eat. Praise yourself

I believe there is a place for modern medicine. If it had not been for modern medicine, I would not have survived childbirth 25 years ago and neither would my child. Yes, there were numerous pharmaceuticals and surgery for both of us. However, our strong consititutions allowed us to survive and recover with help from a healthy lifestyle. If you are unconscious, Sunshine79, then perhaps extr

I did not have good results. It stopped me up even with 3 quarts of water a day. I was told to reduce the amount of the powder and NOT increase water. Nothing regular. I would "go" once a week or so - very little. I did see some little white stringy things at one point. I finally got a cheerful and prompt refund. The interesting thing is that I must have gotten some good from

Arugula, do you check your urine Ph regularly? Is it properly alkaline? This could account for some cravings at times.

Arugula said, "Interesting, because I had the opposite reaction. I hated it, hated the exaggerations, the oversimplifications, and the outright lies. Just all empty posturing IMO." Could this be because you did not have a food addiction like some of us? I found her book right on the mark. I have not read the other person you mentioned, but I will do so soon.

I went through a detox 20 years ago. The depression was the WORST! The worst day all I could do was cry for no apparent reason. It had been getting worse for about a week. The following morning I awoke feeling better mentally than I had in years!!!! Our detox is going to be different for each of us depending on our genetic weakness. Mine almost always includes mental stuff and I don't have

Yes, there definitely is a difference between a fast and a cleanse. On a fast you may have only water and/or juiced fruits and veggies. A cleanse can be less harsh on the body than a fast depending on your health condition. You can still clean your insides with a cleanse. How do you do a "cleanse?" Use simple, 2 or 3, combinations of fruits or veggies with or without juices.

One thing you might want to check is the PH level of your body. Our blood MUST maintain a ph reading very near to 7.365 or we can get sick or even die if it is too far off. Our bodies have several ways to maintain that level. I'll explain one of these mechanisms below. Our bodies neutralize excess acids with buffering minerals such as calcium, magnesium, sodium and maybe some others. When

I had anther thought about this. You may FEEL better fairly quickly on raw foods, but that doesn't necessarily mean you are healed of Lyme disease. The actually healing could take longer. Also, you may only feel great temporarily, or in spurts, as your body may go through several "healing crisis" processes. Dont give up if you don't feel perfect from "this day forward"!

Your body will heal when it is ready to heal as long as you provide what it needs. Raw foods can help you do this more quickly than any medical/phamacuticals can. I believe it is critical for you to find out about the proper PH balance of the body. Organisms that hurt our body cannot live AT ALL in properly balanced body fluids. Educate yourself on raw foods and also how to balance your

I believe your body is asking for less food. Eat less or not at all, but be sure to have plenty of water. If you get hungry, but still don't want to eat, you might try juicing or even blending small amounts of fruits and veggies. It is a good way to ease into a fast or a cleanse. This happened to me recently. I simply ate less. I would having nothing but Super Greens (a green powder) mi

Your hydrochloric acid level in the stomach could be low. You can have a doctor test it. I am not sure why it would suddenly happen, but it could be a cause. You could try adding 1 HCL tablet and see what happens with your wheatgrass. If you don't feel to "acidic" by experiencing a burning sensation, then try 2, and up to 4.
