A quick look on the internet shows that this happens to many fruits - lychees, cherries, pineapples, peppers

sorry if this has been posted before. I have just discovered that mangoes are dipped in water of temperatures about 50 to 55C for up to an hour. Is this common knowledge? does it affect the fruits raw ness? (can't think how hot that is - bad brain day!)

This argument that the positive benefits outweigh the negative aspects of the pesticides interests me. If we agree that other toxic substances are bad for us and that cooking food is detrimental how can pesticides be o.k? I'm not coming down on one side of the fence or the other I am merely curious and trying to satisfy this question in my own mind. I do find the opinions of people on th

some pesticides are systemic - this means that the chemical is drawn through the plant through it's vasculor system. this way when a pesticide is sprayed on a plant and only catches one leaf it will be transported right through the entire plant. therefore washing isn't of much use. but I agree that it is far better to eat non organic fruit than to fret about it and avoid anything that isn't

It's a pain isn't it. I did a 10k race the other day and felt just brilliant throughout and afterwards. Later I prepared myself a huge yummy salad - my sister in law took one look and said 'Is that all you are going to eat after all that exercise' I looked at her plate and it was groaning with white pasta topped with pesto from a jar. I just said somewhat wearily 'This is what I feel like eat

I grind them and then blend them with dates or figs. Great stuff. You can add sesame seeds and vanilla to this if you like.

I really agree with you butterfly - it will be really interesting to watch the studies and science etc. unfold over the next couple of decades as more people embrace raw.

1. Isolation from other people on the same journey - no one to discuss things with. My meat eating family aren't a problem as they are very supportive and I am not tempted but I should think this might be a big problem for some. I do have to cook completely different meals for other members of the family which i don't enjoy too much sometimes. 2. Like Coco says trying to do it all at once.

I adore fruit and eat loads of it. My question is this: many people talk about greens as being absolutely essential to raw food success or so it would seem. Green smoothies are revered, wheatgrass very important etc. etc. Presumably a fruit only diet does not have these greens included and presumably a fruit only diet is just as healthy, judging by some of the 'posters' on this board. As I understand it they are the same thing. In England we seem to get the type of sharon fruit that you can eat even when it isn't particularly soft. when they are like this I don't eat the skin but when they are nice and soft I do. I wish they were cheaper though - they come from Israel and cost about 50pence each - they aren't very big either

does everyone run their food intake past these tools or do some of you trust your own instincts.? I am capable of getting obsessive and I really don't even want to go there. But reading some of your posts makes me a bit wary that I might not be getting every thing that i need. also do you have to weigh everything before you can feed into the computer - sounds really tedious. thanks

Kris5194 posted on the sunshine heart story and directed folk to a link about the dangers of cacao and I thought it was worth having a discussion about in it's own right. Go to www.rawlife.com, health articles on the right hand side of page and click on raw chocolate article. I'm very new to raw food issues so I would love to hear other peoples opinions about this article. I'm sure lots of

Yes I am sure you are right David. I am at the early stages of my raw life and everything is a bit of an experiment at the moment. yes these packaged marketed 'things' are probably better avoided for many reasons and given time I'm sure my fascination for all things 'raw' will rationlise into sensible whole foods. thank you for your post - as always I gain a lot from your comments.

Cool - I don't think I know that shop. I live about 20 miles from Exeter in Devon, just on the edge of Dartmoor. Totnes is a good place for these things but it is a 60 mile round trip and you know the price of fuel in England!!! thanks for the tip. I'll see if I can track a 'Food for Thought' down. where are you?

Hello I have bought a raw energy bomb!! and I am wondering about some of the ingredients. What is guarana - apparently it contains natural caffeine!! also what is Korean ginseng and siberian ginseng? and what is rice syrup - can it be raw as the bar claims that it is? there are two bombs in the packet and they claim to give sustained energy with their potent herbs - so they recomen

thank you raw angel - am stocking up on raw chocolate. Hard to find all these things in South west England - most shop keepers, even in health food shops, look at me as though I have just dropped off Mars when I mention raw foods. Yesterday some helpful lady told me that everything was raw if I didn't cook it!!!!!! oh well

cirrhosis, they have discovered can now be caused by being grossly overweight. the liver can store masses of fat which can in the end lead to cirrhosis(so it is possible to get cirrhosis without drinking a drop) the good news is that even a really fatty liver can be restored to health by drastic diet changes - i.e cutting out all saturated fat etc. etc. Unfortunately as far as I know o
