If you're refering to the average SAD eaters out there - I'd have to say that your estimate of 25% is WAY generous! I know people who go for days without a salad or piece of fresh fruit! I agree with goldsplinter - 10% at MOST. Life Is Good! alive!

Hey there Jonesy! I'm trying to get off the coffee, too. I'm drinking one cup per day - which is a LOT better than I used to do (maybe 5 cups)! I'm switching to a coffee substitute called Teeccino. Many health food stores carry it or can get it for you. It's made from herbs, nuts and seeds and fruits. It has a rich flavor and has helped me cut down on the coffee. I imagine it's less acid

I can't say that I've tried any pumpkin soups, yet. I have two little pumpkins in my kitchen and I just keep looking at them, but haven't done anything with them, yet. You might try the recipe for butternut squash that's listed on www.fromsadtoraw.com Just substitute the pumpkin for the squash. Maybe add a little coconut oil to make it creamy. Mixed pumpkin pie spice might be good, to

Hey Yogamama! I have an Excalibur that came with a couple of teflex sheets, but I don't really like them and rarely use them. I use parchment paper and like it much better - things seem to dry faster on it than on the teflex. After drying overnight, they are dry enough to peel off the parchment paper, cut into squares (Yup, I've just anal enough that my crackers gotta be square instead of br

Hey Mari - YOU GOOOO WITH YOUR BAD SELF GIRL!!!!! Another thing that I would add that worked for me - maybe not others - but I thought I would mention it. When I first went raw (even though I needed to lose some weight) I let myself eat as much as I wanted of raw foods. I was hungry and cold, just walked into the door, had nothing prepared and kind of feeling panicked one night and I ate 3

You might try raw coconut oil on his scalp at night. I've read that it works well for some people - anti-fungal properties, supposedly. Life Is Good! alive!

I eat very little fruit. Unless you count the non-sweet fruit - that's another story all-together!! I love tomatoes, zuchinni, cucumbers, red and yellow bell peppers, pod-peas, etc. Now THAT'S whut I'm talkin' bout!!!! Put em all together with some seeds and sprouts and greens and you got soup or salad. (I told my sister once that there's not a whole lot of difference between my soups and

That's it la_v !! You said it better than I could. I explained it to my sister this way (when she said that she could never go raw and asked how did I deal with all the foods I no longer eat). I told her that instead of dwelling on the foods that I no longer eat and pining for them, my job is to fall totally, completely, madly in love with greens, raw veggies, fruits, freshness, the color green

Positive visualizations can be very powerful. Work on the pictures in your mind. Create a couple that you can use as tools in your "raw toolbox". See yourself as glowing with health, moving with ease, waking up smiling, sleeping soundly, performing your exercise effortlessly, etc. Include eating raw foods in simple form in your "pictures". Read all that you can tolerate

Hi Nicole! Sorry to hear about your back problem. I've been there and done that. I tried almost everything, exercises, adjustments, doctors, meds, etc. I finally came across a doctor who feels like a lot of back problems and other medical issues are psychosomatic. You might want to look into his books and see if you find yourself in his descriptions. I lived in New Jersey at the time and

164. Re: Rice
Thanks, Ally! That makes sense. I had this brilliant idea that if I could just find someone in the US that grows rice, then I could get my hands on it and not have to rely on imported rice. But what you say sounds accurate - unfortunately!!! So much for that idea! Unless of course I could find someone who grows rice that would like to "give" me some before the sterilization process!

165. Rice
I remember reading a post about rice once. I can't remember what it said exactly, but it had something to do with why we can't soak and sprout rice. Does anyone remember? I'm thinking it said that all rice that's imported into the US is irradiated? Is that possible? Any input would be appreciated. I sure would love to try sprouting rice and adding it to my diet now and then. Thanks.

I'm gonna answer, even though I don't have one. I'm just so glad that you're back, Yogamama! I have a blender that I use at least twice a day and I have to BEG it to mush up a tomato!!!! I really, really want a 3hp blender and my husband and I go round and round about the $$$$$ He keeps threatening to buy me a blender at Cost-Co!!!! I threaten to throw it in the trash if he does! I ate there once. It was a week day for lunch. I had the lunch buffet. It was delicious and such a treat for me - not used to having others prepare my food! So, I sat by the front window, watched the world go by and ate and ate and ate! My husband got tired of waiting for me to finish chewing my greens, so he left and went to the oyster bar down the street! I just kept chewing! Finally

Thank you la-ver, for lighting up my world today! I'm going to pour another glass of lemonade, go back outside into the sun with my little dog Flo-Jo and enjoy some more of "the main dish on the plate". My priority will be to just vibrate with love! That will keep me healthier than perfect food or a clean house (housework makes you ugly and I'm feelin' mighty pretty lately!). Than

Here ya' go la-v THE DIVIDED MIND by Dr. John Sarno. Yup on the chef thing -I've always wanted to e-mail Chad Sarno and ask him if he is Dr. John's son. Anyhoo - it's a very interesting theory and he feels that there are a lot of other "illnesses" that are psychosomatic and created by subconscious, unresolved anger. The amazing thing is that awareness is the key and you don't n

Maybe that explains some of the questions that have been floating around in my head - like why does every chart that I see have lentils (just one of many examples) in a different column? Nobody seems to agree. Thanks for at least shining some light into the subject! Life Is Good! alive!

Glad to hear you're feeling better! Back problems are no fun. I won't go into all the details of my back history, but I will add my two cents, just in case you have any more occurances. I've been there/done that with doctors, exercises, medications, adjustments etc. etc. over the years. I finally landed with Dr. John Sarno who feels that most all back problems come from stress - period.

I'm still confused about flax seeds and enzyme inhibitors. I soak nuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and rinse them and then let them sprout and then dehydrate them. It was my underatanding that they need to be rinsed because the enzyme inhibitors were still in the water? So, here's my question about flax. If I mix flax seeds with water and let them sit until they absorb the water and then

My freezer is full of watermelon, grapes and cantelope, strawberries, blueberries, etc. I don't really like to eat a lot of frozen foods, but it's so hard to get organic where I live. Wal-mart and kroger, that's it. So I've bought a lot of organic fruits from the farmers market when I could and decided to freeze some of it. This way I can combine fresh fruit (apples and oranges) with my fro
