I love my Vitamix 5200 but as I mentioned in your other thread its not necessary. I had no problems making simple smoothies using a regular Hamilton Beach blender. I have a Waring juicer (cost me 50 or 60 dollars I believe) and it gets the job done find. If you are juicing wheat grass or making nut butters then one of the top of the line juicers like a Green Star or Champion would work but if you

Keith you can totally do this lifestyle on the cheap. Before I bought any fancy equipment I had a regular ol' Hamilton Beach blender, small (3 cup or something I think) Cuisinart food processor, a $20 mandolin slicer and a $50 Nesco food dehydrator. The Vitamix and similar blenders are power houses. They can make smooth nut butters, freeze fruit into sorbets and ice creams, crush ice, make ba

Depending on the variety you can grow them in zones 8 and 9 but most do best in zones 10 and 11.

Utopian Life I do not mind at all that my husband eats dairy or meat. It just doesn't bother me. We both lead active lifestyles and I consider us both very healthy. I became a vegan for health reasons not ethical ones so I suppose that makes a difference. I do not see his choices as being wrong etc. Edited to add that I can only speak for myself here but my marriage is not based on food. I mad

Depending on the variety, they can take up to ten years before they bear fruit. It is possible to grow them but it won't live too long as an indoor plant. They grow best in zones 9 to 11 and they like plenty of sun.

brenna that is such a great post and it really echos my husband and I's experiences. We were also meat eaters when we met and while he is not fully vegan at home (he will have yogurt on occasion and does order whatever he wants on the rare occasion we go to a restaurant) he fully supports my decision to be raw and eats every single raw vegan dish I put in front of me. We are polar opposites in a

I agree with coco... 5am is definitely early and blenders (particularly the high powered kind) can be very noisy. Our neighbors below us have a little daughter so we always try to be conscious of the noise we are making and when we are making it. Kids need their sleep and often times so do their exhausted parents.

I have Ani Phyo's book and do not like it. 90% of the pictures in her book are of her and her friends. The few shots of food she does have in the book are black and white. I didn't find it very inspiring at all and as maui_butterfly said above she has quite a few You Tube videos out with her recipes. The books I have that contain the least time consuming recipes are (in order): Raw Food M

I use Bare Minerals but I apply it with a very light hand, use the smaller brushes to minimize dust and don't wear it every day. I've had no problems with it so far.

Brian I have not heard that about raw foodists and bananas... Interesting stuff! I have at least two bananas a day and thankfully have not had any problems. Are the Candida outbreaks more likely to happen to those who are newly raw or those who've been raw for awhile?

Eek! I agree with Brian. Stick with juice or water for fasting. Fasting on large quantities of oil for an extended period just wouldn't be healthy.

I totally agree with ya Utopian Life...that is why I try to eat as much variety as I can on any given day. I use FitDay to watch my zinc and selenium intakes as those are the ones I am usually low on... sometimes magnesium also (I supplement B12 and D).

I occasionally add mine to smoothies but mainly I just soak it overnight in water, drain and add nut milk, dates and spices. I typically only eat this during the winter months though.
