I'm sorry your feeling so awful. Fiber is really important for carrying the toxins out of the body. If there's not enough fiber in the intestines then the toxins the liver has filtered out of the blood stream can get re-absorbed back into the body. Psyllium is very good for this if you think you might need more fiber. Clay is also good for absorbing and removing toxins. I add 1 tsp fr

I've long been a cold-hands-and-feet, hot-hot water loving person, but I've been surprised the last couple months how good alternating cold-warm water at the end of the shower feels. Maybe I'll try a whole cold shower. You can get used to anything, though. When I was sailing around the southern end of South America, we would bathe on deck with buckets of sea water - with icebergs floating al

I've never been much of a make-up wearer except for mascara, but I have some Dr Hauschka for special occasions (like weddings, when the bride demands it! lol). I also tried Lavera once, but didn't find it as light as Dr. H.

"i generally won't clean with anything that isn't safe to put into my mouth (salt, lemon, vinegar, castile, baking soda, oatmeal, etc)." - posted by coco Ditto that! I tried castile (sparingly) a couple of times and it made my hair feel awful. I use a "no-poo" kind of regimen with baking soda as a cleansing base (about 1 tsp or less baking soda to 1 cup warm w

I've been thinking about these discussions, and my own experience has been that since starting to eat raw it's been like the "doors of perception" have been blown wide open. I'm feeling and experiencing everything in my life with so much more clarity. I feel a great deal more sensitive to everything, and yet in a strong and outgoing way, not in a cringing and avoiding way (although I

I'm sorry to hear that you are struggling, and about your depression, but I think the fact that you are striving to do something good for yourself is a real act of love. Do take it easy on yourself - there's no point in beating yourself up about not being "perfect". (Especially since none of us are, or ever can be!) About snacks, how about always keeping some fresh fruit, dried ber

Aawww, coffee... I was such an addict, had to have my coffee every morning. My latte every day. Then when I became pregnant six years ago switched to decaf - still, had to have my daily latte. Then last August dropped all coffee for a cleanse. Since then I made a jug of cold-processed (look up Filtron or Toddy if you're unfamililar with this - you basically soak ground coffee in cold water

I've heard - but haven't tried it - that using wheatgrass juice topically can do amazing things for your skin. Also read, and this might seem counter-intuitive, that coconut oil is wonderful for break-outs, as it has anti-fungal properties, and keeps the skin smooth so less scabbing. Again, not something I've tried (I use coconut oil for skin, just haven't had an acne situation to try it on).

Last summer I followed a 3-week detox program with my naturopath using Standard Process supplements (it's a complete package, with instructions, costs about $150-200 - you can look it up online). I hadn't done any research about cleansing, just knew I needed it, and I felt safe about doing this with my naturopath's help. It was pretty much just eating fresh veg and fruit, with some light cookin

I also have the horizontal Benriner, like Bruce described. I love it, so fun and easy to use. I went with the horizontal over the vertical because it looked like there wasn't all that much room under the vertical for the spiralized veggies, and I didn't want them getting all scrunched up, if you know what I mean. The horizontal one lets the veggies fall in a loose pile next to the spiralizer i

I have a Turning Slicer by Benriner that I really enjoy. It hold the veggies horizontally instead of vertically, which seemed odd to me at first, but it works really well. Here's the one I have (I didn't buy it from this company and never heard of them before this search - this was just an informative page. I bought mine locally): It's much pricier than the Saladacco, but I like the feel

itchy - sounds like you (body and spirit) have been through a lot and maybe need a period of healing? if your weight is staying the same for a long period instead of bouncing around, that sounds like a good start, and then maybe you can tweak your food habits a little bit here and there, like some other posters mentioned. i'm trying to not sound like a know-it-all ('cause i don't), but 146

WY and David - thanks for your replies. i am using a waring with a vm carafe, and the seeds are completely pulverized by the time blending is done. i don't want to get tied up in knots over something as simple as grinding flax seeds, but you never know! David - also thanks for the link to the other thread. quite informative, and also points out the many, many different opinions we all ha

Okay, this question sounds a little bit silly to me, but sometimes the silliest-sounding questions bring amazing information, so here I go... Is it important to dry-grind flax seeds *before* blending? I've been just throwing the whole seeds in my smoothies and they get pulverized that way, but then I started wondering if there was some important reason for doing it the other way. I've se

rawmamma - Do you have a blender at all right now? I'm thinking that until you can get a more powerful blender, maybe you could try smashing the avocado pits with a hammer first and then blend. I'd probably put the pit in a plastic bag before smashing so the pieces wouldn't go all over the place. This could also be a good way to release stress! Have you tried avo pit smoothies already?

Does anyone have a dehydrated cracker recipe, or tips, they would like to share? I've tried a couple of cracker recipes and they were not good. Kind of chewy and the flavor not great. My son is a big cracker fan and I'd like to let him have some tasty homemade goodies. Thanks! Emily

I don't know about any of the other juicers, but I too like my Omega 8003. I use it a couple of times a day on average, for both juicing and homogenizing. Pulp comes out really dry, juice doesn't oxidize quickly and it's easy to clean. Good luck! Emily

David - Thanks again for your help. Yesterday, before reading your post, I was doing a lot of blending for some multi-faceted recipes, and the thick paste of nuts/etc. required a lot of stopping, scraping down with a spatula and blending again in the Waring carafe. Your post was *exactly* what I needed to hear. I'm ordering the VM carafe today! Libra - When I saw references to the dry

David - Can you give a comparison of the Waring and VM containers? I'm still using the Waring container and thinking about ordering the VM carafe, but wondering in what ways the VM is better. I've seen the video, but was curious about your experience. So far I've gotten the blender to do what I want, but not with little batches - the base of the Waring container is so broad that I have t

I have the Waring - for only a couple of weeks now - but so far am loving it. I have the one with the 2-speed toggle switch, not programmable or anything fancy, because I just don't anticipate needing to set it and walk away. I don't want to leave it running for more than a few seconds at a time because if I do it starts to heat up what I'm blending, but about 10-12 seconds is usually all it ta

This is so timely for me - I definitely need to invest in those gloves. I just cut off the end of my thumb on a mandoline (thin setting, luckily) last week - and ended up getting a ride to the ER in an ambulance because the police officer I talked to sent a paramedic since I didn't have my car or carseat for my 4 year old son to ride in - and in ER all they did was flush with a saline solution a

Jodi and David, Thank you both! and, Yeah! My Waring blender arrived, at last. (After the wrong address snafu one day, the UPS driver showed up the next day, looked all through his truck and couldn't find the package - figured it must have been put on another truck by mistake. He looked pretty surprised when my son and I started laughing!) This thing is massive! And it sounds like a jet

sharkie, I've just picked up a book you might be interested in called "Rainbow Green Live Food Cuisine" by Gabriel Cousens. I've only started reading it, a lot of the information is quite dense, but I'm finding it really educational. He has different diet phases in it (I, I.5, II) where I is without sugars (fruit) and some other things, and II is broader spectrum, and many reci

I have the Omega 8003, and I love it. It's the first and only juicer I've ever used, so I have absolutely nothing to compare it to. I've had it about 6 months and use it a lot for wheatgrass, some juice, and lately have been making patés with it. The pulp from juicing is very dry. I haven't tried nut butters, but from the way the patés have been turning out, it seems like it will work w

David - Thanks for the help. My Waring blender is due to arrive today (apparently they tried delivering to the wrong address yesterday ) so I guess I'll try it with the standard container for a bit until I save up to buy the VM one. Hello - I found your thread here, and am currently awaiting delivery of my very own Waring Extreme blender. I've gone looking on the internet for info about the Vita-Mix containers, and now I just feel dizzy! There seems to be so many options. Can anyone give me specifics on which container you ordered? I looked at Everything Kitchens but they have a lot of choices there. Do all Vita-Mi

Hi! I've just found you all, what luck! I started a 3-week cleanse in August, which was all-raw, and I'm feeling soooo good 6 weeks later that I want to stay this way. So here I am. I'm not ready to classify myself as a rawist, or anything else for that matter - I've long loved European cheese (is that a bad word here? ) so if I were to luckily find myself in Europe, I can't imagine not
