Hi, We are vegetarian. My 2 month old son is having issues with gas / constipation / colic. My wife's diet could be a factor, since she is breastfeeding. The foods she is eating might be affecting her milk. I would like to try the raw diet to see if it helps. However, everything I've read on this issue so far says to cook all food thoroughly because cooking makes some substances more digest

Hi, I'm looking for some ice cream recipes. I've heard once of a banana recipe. Could someone post it here? I'd like something where the basic recipe is easy but allows optional addons. Also, how long can it last out of the freezer before it completely melts? Thanks.

For a second try, I soaked the California dates in water for 5 minutes. When processing, I waited to see that the food mixture started becoming a bit clumpy. Then, added 2 teaspoons of water, 5 more seconds, and it all turned into one big sticky clump. So this time it worked! Thanks for the good advice.

I too would go with Cornbleet's book. It's easy and good.

OK, so I made a cake last night. It's from "Raw Food Made Easy For 1 or 2 People". The base is walnuts and dates processed in a food processor. You are supposed to process until it begins to stick together, then add a tiny bit of water, process a bit more, then lay it out and chill. This morning, I took it out of the fridge and checked it. While the cake tastes good, it is way too cr

- dried / dehydrated fruit, though it's probably not raw - raisins (might be raw if it says "sun dried" on the box) - dates - tamarind (not easy to find) - avocado (fatty) - durian (not easy to find) - persimmon - plantain - breadfruit (not easy to find) - custard apple - orange peel (what to do with the orange?) - passion fruit - sugar apples - bananas Most of these

How many servings does that make? I know, I know, I don't care about servings either. But I am looking for something to take to a potluck, and so I need to know servings.

Hi, I am looking for a recipe with the following basic requirements: - It should be suitable for an omnivore potluck. This means two things. First, it should not be too "weird" compared to typical food. Second, I would like the other people to leave with a good impression of vegetarian / raw food. Something that tastes (and looks) super terrifically great would be nice. - It s

I can be almost fine with one cooked meal, especially if it's light. But beyond that, I do get symptoms. First, I become more hungry / hungry for cooked. Second, I do get the stomach symptoms, like a bit of nausea or just feeling too full. Also, after a few cooked meals I notice differences in my skin.

I am pretty happy being all raw. Yes, sometimes, I do get a craving, but it is rare and not a big deal. Sometimes I run out of food through poor planning. Sometimes I am just too lazy. Also, when I go out, I do eat cooked vegan. Yes, I know some people get around eating cooked when going out, but at this point, I do not do that. After eating cooked, I do get the "recovery". It's not

I am generally raw, but every couple / few weeks, I do eat cooked veg*n. The reasons are many, but it happens. Sometimes, I eat cooked for just one meal. Others, it's up to 2 or 3 days in a row. Then, I switch back to raw. Question: Is switching back and forth between raw and cooked, in itself, somehow harmful? Here is another way to ask the question. Is it better to eat (a) 9 days raw, follow

When you start experimenting with any new diet, including raw, expect to spend more money in the beginning. This is because you are figuring out which foods to buy, etc. Right now, I spend about $70-$80 a week, all organic, and I think that's a lot. I signed up for a produce delivery service, which is very convenient, but I still have to buy some fruit at the supermarket. Couscous is not raw.

Let's just look at the numbers and put this to rest. Raw tomatoes: 2573 mcg lycopene / 100 grams Cooked tomatoes: 3041 mcg lycopene / 100 grams I've heard about the issue with lycopene before, and, from the way people talk about it, I thought that it was a major difference. Well, as we can see from the numbers, it's not. Cooked tomatoes have 20% more lycopene. That's it.

It's true, but it's not the whole truth. Sure, more lycopene per tomato is available from cooked tomatoes. But 1. How many tomatoes do the people on SAD eat compared to the people on raw? Raw foodists probably eat more tomatoes. So while the rate is lower, you still get more lycopene. 2. What about all the OTHER nutrients??

noelle, I think greens lower the appetite. So if you are drinking green smoothies in the morning, that might contribute to your low appetite. Try drinking them in the evening, after dinner.

Since it sounds like you don't feel like eating much anyway, you might want to try fasting. *Not* to starve yourself, etc. (and not if you have any type of eating disorder). But if done right, fasting can be beneficial. Bragg recommends water fasting one day a week. This means that for 24 hours every week you only drink purified water. No juices, no mineral water, etc. The way I do it is skip

cynthia, You said "Someone said here that to gain weight, one should eat big meals instead of grazing all day. So... what to do then ?". I am not sure. IIRC, I have read, in the context of 811, that you should eat big meals. IIRC, the reason was that eating sweet fruit all day might not be great for your teeth. I think it's easier to eat more if you eat throughout the day. My

I am still relatively new to raw, but here are some thoughts. If the raw experiment is becoming dangerous (you are losing too much weight), perhaps it's time to temporarily pull back the experiment, learn a bit more, gain some weight, and then try again? Or, have some non-raw days when you eat enough calories, and some raw days when you are experimenting. For lunch I eat a lot of sweet frui

legalearthangel, I am still experimenting with raw. I am in a similar situation where I do not want to spend the time on preparing the food. Here is what I typically have for lunch: - 2 or 3 bananas - sunflower seeds and raisins (about a third of a ziplock baggie) - 4 apples and / or pears - some baby carrots - plenty of water (~2 Liters per day) I eat this throughout the day. Peach, Thanks for your response. This is actually not for me, but for my mom. She's heard of raw but is not too excited about it. That's also why I asked for something for beginners, that would explain raw / why it's so super terrific, etc. She's just started doing some fruit and green smoothies and she likes them. Not much beyond that. I will look into the books you recommend. Thanks agai

Hi, I am looking for a raw / diet / detox / cleansing-related book that - addresses weight loss - could be high raw (not necessarily 100%) - easy for beginners - not too heavy - has nice pictures, etc. - has easy recipes (no dehydrator / exotic ingredients) Any thoughts? Thanks.

I hear a lot about Ayurveda. Lots of people are writing books about it. Lots of people are discussing it. But what is the source for it? Are there any Ayurveda scriptures? What are they? I'd like to see them for myself. I'd like to see the primary sources. If such do not exist, then how does anyone know what Ayurveda really teaches? Anyone can write a book or a website about anything...

I sleep a lot and still feel tired. Have a hard time waking up. On those rare days that I sleep less I actually feel better. But I am not sure how to sleep less on a daily basis. Any thoughts on how to sleep not too long and feel good?
