I am for being open, even if it is not perfect. Better this than guru-ism. I think that we should promote being critical of information, and discerning too.

Lighten up fresh. I only insist on correct reporting and reading the source. The study talks about insects not veganism, or other imagined factors. Their B12 levels were dropping IN THE WILD when they were eating fruit with no insects. So nothing to do with sterile environment.

fresh, do you believe that the bats would pick the insects out of the figs? They tested the bats and the connection between what they ate and their B12 levels was indicative. Did you actually read the article? If you did you would know that the first quote was from someone else's work being quoted. Why would you draw conclusions from article you did not read? Why would you quote the articl

Also, the authors report the finding that the B12 levels of the fruitbats living in the wild would decline during the periods they fed on cultivated fruit, and increase during the periods they fed on uncultivated fruit that contains lots of insects. So the article is in fact suggesting that it is the consumption of insects that might be making the difference. I do not believe that eating insec

Quotes from inside that article: "The natural dietary source of vitamin B12 for these animals is unknown, but they probably obtain their vitamin B12 either by the inadvertent ingestion of insects present in or on the fruit they eat, or by drinking stagnant water contaminated with vitamin B12-producing micro-organisms." "These figs contain large numbers of insects such as frui

You guys are funny. Lois, I know what you mean. I wonder sometimes, is this something that we should have expected to happen? As the result of people getting online access? Is what we see a representative cross-section of the society? Or perhaps some other factors play role?

I would like to suggest that being a raw foodist has to involve keeping your brain and growing your heart. We may not stay healthy otherwise. Eat raw, keep your brain, grow your heart

Perhaps such labeling is associated with being in minority? Are those in majority orthorexic perhaps? Everyone thinks about food, don't they? If thinking too much about food is orthorexic, how would we classify being mindless about it?

This isn't a new topic. It is still relevant nevertheless. Some apparently think that eating raw foods falls under the category of orthorexia nervosa: What do you think?

To be truthful, I did not wait. So it was a bonus to see the answer materialize after 9 years at last. Can't believe how quickly time has passed!

It's good to hear an answer to my question at last. Being a raw foodist means that my garden gets a lot of goodies (compost). It is also good to observe organic shops and organic informal sales are growing. The internet seems to be helping in people creating networks of exchange. It is a slow process but I do notice some positive changes (being around 50 means that I had a lot of time to obse

Prana, I used to think that you are on a fruit based diet. Was I wrong to assume that? By the way, I doubt anyone is able to estimate their true fat % accurately without the use of serious science tools.

Dear Ela, Sorry to hear about your father. I do believe that going plant-based increases the chances of recovery. Hydrating, nutrients-rich plants are wonderful, no doubt. A healthy body can thrive on these, and a sick body has a better chance of healing. There are other things that are important too, which have to do with looking after the mind and the soul. An attitude is a big factor. Lo

Why would anyone say that fruit makes you fat? This is such an irrational nonsense, with no rigorous basis whatsoever, completely illogical assertion.

I was taken for a teenager in my 20s too. But in my late 30s after my 2nd pregnancy I went downhill and nothing seemed to help. Until raw. Yes it is awesome indeed. I do hope to see more pictures. I do not think that pictures necessarily prove anything, nevertheless I find them interesting.

To get a PhD takes more than a few months. In my area, and in my country, it takes to do Honours first, then winning a competitive stipend (first class Honours needed for that), and then about 3 years of research ending in perhaps 3 publications in international peer-reviewed journals and a thesis. I am sure that we can find a fault with any seemingly perfect human if we know enough about the

How did you change? For me, it was towards more confidence in this 'unusual' lifestyle. I analyzed it from every possible angle, but after over a decade, time has come for me to just be and enjoy it. It was good for me to go through some tough times and lessons to emerge as a person I am today. Interestingly, in many ways, I am much the person I was when I started. Just wiser.
