Yes, it does sounds far-fetched. I didn't think that relied solely on breast milk after the age of two.. but hey, I'm a man, what do I know? kris5194, You must admit that cows are a bit different though? They can exist on pretty much a mono-diet of greens, while we single-stomached humans must eat a great variety of seeds/nut and other things in addition. "The "experts" hav

Other than getting the fat soluble nutrients, intense exercise and morning meditation are probably the best way to combat seasonal affective disorder. Also, just force yourself to get out and *enjoy* the cold.

I ate tons of papaya over the summer. It definitely played a great role in regenerating my health.. although I thought that had more to do with the high levels of vitamin A.

I don't think that raw vegans are crazy. Not in the least, compared to people that stuff their carts with soda and chips. I think that many are extremely knowledgeable and healthy, while others harm themselves more than they would with a food pyramid diet. If the OP is going to all the efforts of finding a balanced vegan diet, that's wonderful. As long as she takes all the necessary precautions..

Babies can survive on breastmilk alone for the first few years of life. As long as the mother is healthy, it contains a perfect balance of all the nutrients that the child needs. Any vegan/non-vegan food should be supplementary. Really, the only important thing is that the child gets all of the nutrients it needs to develop properly. It decide for itself, later in life, whether raw veganism is th

Jgunn, I read about it on chetday.com. Which case, I don't know.. The point is that we shouldn't experiment too much when infants are involved.

My personal opinion is no. If you were already 100% raw, then it would probably fine (with minor modifications.) You should definitely eat more fatty foods, and just generally more nutritious food. I say visit a naturopath. You don't want to be in any degree like the raw vegan crazies who killed their child by feeding him nothing but raw vegetables- even though this is not what you are askin

For the prickly pears- There's a thick skin, but it's very nutritious and rich in anti-oxidants. I recommend peeling it like a potato, trying to save as much of the skin flesh as possible. The seeds are perfectly edible, but can cause constipation if you eat too many at one sitting (15+ in my case).

Someone here wrote that a poor sense of smell could be an indication zinc deficiency (I have poor smell.) Looking at my diet for the past few years, and the amount of zinc present in semen, this could likely be the case. Besides a supplement, what foods do you recommend for replenishing ones store of zinc? I eat a lot of nuts and seeds (mainly sesame and pumpkin), but it does not seem to be en

I live in Calgary and buy them at Superstore. The funny thing is that they keep mischarging them as Daikon, so I get them at $2 each.

The only thing I can think of is fried green tomatoes, but those aren't raw... You can always put them in a paper bag with a banana.

I wonder what the hell is wrong with people who load their carts up with soda-pop and chips and refined carbs. We hear every day about how bad this @#$%& is for you, how you should be eating more fruit and vegetables, yet this is considered the norm?! People should eat things that they enjoy, out of a conscious concern for their health. Eating something repulsive, because you think it's health

Do a search, I posted a thread on this topic a while ago. Technically, you could, but it's not such a good idea. Maybe if you cut them up into chunks and soak them in water to drain off the alkaloids.

Hi, How long does it take for things to pass through your digestive system, personally? I ask, because I ate something hot at 11am and @#$%& it out at 11pm. That seems a bit fast. Is that bad? -thanks

Definitely cut down the fruit, and fat, as Bryan suggested. This is serious business, you have no time to spare. You should avoid the high glycemic food, and if you're going to eat them, make sure you eat them along with *lots* of fibre. Also, it may not be in line with raw vegan principles, but you'll probably have to get more of your calories from vegetable protein...

Thanks. Cooked some up today, mixed it with coconut milk and banana blossoms for a delicious porridge. I was worried that they were unsproutable, since the sesame seeds from the same store would not sprout, but they are! By the way, uma, quinoa isn't technically a grain.

I did some research and found that, contrary to popular belief, DHA and EPA can both be found in algae. Anyone know about plant sources for the other EFAs?

I think that you should listen to your body and eat what you feel like eating, regardless of paradigms. Of course, you should also analyze these cravings and add new test foods (acquired tastes) to your system to see how the body reacts. Eventually you'll come up with something perfectly suited to your health.
