I seriously doubt that smoking anything helps anything, except the growth of cancer cells. Good grief. Next: mainlining heroin ameliorates the effect of cheeseburgers. :\ Light a candle in the darkness, not a cigarette.

Thanks for the suggestions. I wanted to clarify that this would be for a SAD eaters potluck (at work) so I don't need to be pure. Jodi, Your suggestions are very helpful. Thank you so much. I appreciate it. Sometimes I'm so tired from overwork, I can't think. I love this food!

80/10/10 works for me but I'm usually too lazy to follow it properly all of the time! I mostly eat what I want. When I feel sluggish though, I'll pay closer attention what I am eating and how much I am eating and the closer I get to 80/10/10, the better I feel. I have Bryan to thank. Some suggestions he made got me to slowly change this and that and to use Fitday to check on what I was really

I saw this recipe in the NY Times and was wondering if anyone could suggest replacements for the dairy products? I haven't been preparing many foods beyond salads because I usually eat lots of fruit, smoothies, and salads and don't do a lot of faux cooked or other kinds of recipe-intense foods. Reading this recipe got my old curry craving going and I thought this would be good to bring to a p

Why do people hate those who are different? Short answer: Because they are ignorant. Long answer: I've received hateful responses to my assertions that lettuce is a vegetable. <sigh> THE PEOPLE OF THE OTHER VILLAGE by Thomas Lux The people of the other village hate the people of this village and would nail our hats to our heads for refusing in their presence to remove

Rob, I hear ya. All the more reason for you to double your resolve and live a life of health and balance -- as a living example for your son. Hopefully, someday he will come to realize what a gift your living example is and it may be what saves him from the habit patterns of his past. I am glad you are doing the right thing. Continue to do it for you, of course, but also for your son. He is

It doesn't make me feel any better to look around the lunch room and think: Congestive heart failure, alcoholic, obese McD's eater and new mother, fast food marathon runner running on empty clogging his arteries, Prozac addict, Starbucks addict, anorexic hate addict, cigarette smoking depressive... Yeah, sometimes they comment on my food. But they also greedily, readily accept some too. Wit

Gotta add my two cents on the air filter -- Go for it! My air filter is the most expensive thing I own besides my (crappy!) car. Having a good air filter is vital for anyone suffering from the symptoms you describe. It is key to have the room in which you sleep be as "clean" as possible. Also, keep the room in which you sleep as dust free as possible. And, even if you think you a

Several things contribute to your physical state. Food is one. Your mind is another. Don't give up. Just keep doing the best you can. You will get there. Wherever "there" is for you.

I try and eat lots of raw, unprocessed fruits and vegetables -- as much as can, shopping the produce aisle of markets or shopping at farmers' markets and roadside stands. Other people here habitually eat things that come from processing plants or that are packaged in plastic and sold on the Internet. I don't like to eat those kinds of things so I don't buy them and I try to avoid having to eat

It's official: David Z. Mason is now a rock star. But seriously... Could be diet or detox or a need for regular exercise or a need to look within (a need to meditate), or maybe job or relationship or family stress... I hope things improve -- whatever improvement looks like for YOU. Thank you for taking a risk and posting that. Other people may have experienced the same thing and may h

Claire you are so right on! HA! Yeah, most people think I live on twigs and leaves. LOL. I figure... raw junk is better than SAD junk. Occasionally splurging on something raw/vegan that I don't usually eat is a good thing. Get out of your raw/vegan comfort zone and try something new or travel to a raw restaurant if you can. And, if none of that works, what Bryan is saying above makes a lot of

Thanks everyone! If you think of anything else, please let me know. I am thinking of raw/vegan food. I know there aren't many raw/vegan restaurants outside of LA and NYC, but I always like to steer my meat eating friends to a healthy place where I can get a great salad or where a fruit plate is more than unripe melon and grapes. I appreciate it. I love this food! Lee "

Congratulations, Phyllis! A lot of the supposed support sites for illnesses are financed and/or run by pharmaceutical companies. If you go telling people they don't need their medications, well of course they are going to boot you off!!! YOU ARE ALWAYS WELCOME HERE! This site rocks. They sell stuff at Trader Joe's and Wholefoods that is labeled "ALL NATURAL" and it looks like orange styrofoam packing peanuts. It comes in colorful plastic bags. I was in Borders the other day looking at recipe books that had the word "RAW" in the title. I came across a few that had ingredients and directions that involved boiling or involved processed foods. When I take watermelon, I cut it up to make it easier to store but I cut it in big pieces that I cut up further when I eat it. Sometimes I will take a salad or take a smoothie that I put in the fridge at work. Are you a teacher? It's back to work time for teachers and back to school time for students. If so... please avoid the cafeteria! Lee "May all beings be happy."

When I drank caffeinated beverages I felt like this: The caffeine I drank today was stealing energy from the next two days. Unfortunately, I didn't give myself two days to recover from the caffeine I drank. I then drank caffeine the next day because I didn't have energy that day, because I had caffeine the day before... It's almost like a pyramid scheme. You are stealing energy from two

This is so sad. I really feel for you and everyone with children here. Recently, someone I know was talking about an acquaintance who has a almost newborn (couple of months old) and the baby apparently has "colic." The mother is breastfeeding.
