And BTW, your post about the babies who were used as subjects of a study and ended up dead or psychotic (in the donor thread) - I found that to be so depressing and negative and awful, it made me cry. I had never heard of such a thing before. Of course, your post was about what had happened years ago and mine is about what is happening right now.

I didn't know there was a rule here that we can't post about Current Events or Culture - especially something as fantastic at this. Better to bury our heads in the sand and ignore it and maybe it'll go away.

In the past, we've all commiserated on the Other Topics board about how the media - TV and movies - negatively affect our children, and most of us mothers had agreed that we don't let our kids watch all that garbage or don't even have a TV in the house or how we send our kids to Waldorf (like I did) or Homeschool and now that we see the fruits of what we all talked about - how the media (let's add video games to that) affects children and creates insensitive adults, and we're not allowed to discuss it?

When I heard about this a couple days ago, I was amazed and shocked. I thought - "Wow, I'm surprised nobody posted this on the board yet. Especially banana who - she usually beats me to it - like with the breastfeeding story." So it took a long time, but I put together a bunch of links - after all, it's three separate incidents - to bring others up to speed.

So don't thank me for all the work I did or give me kudos for being on the ball with this amazing news.

I assume if there's an Alien Invasion, we're not allowed to post that, also? Or is it just me that's not allowed to post it?

Humans have been cannibalizing one another throughout history, and not just for ritual purposes like the Papua New Guineans(etc.--it's a long list), but for privation, like after plagues, or getting stuck in the Donner Pass. This news is sickening, but then I remember that humans are animals, too, and revert to base instincts at times, and so this kind of thing is bound to happen, now and then.

IMO, this has nothing to do with the degradation of society, or whatever. That would require that humans had achieved some perfect rarified state. As cannibalism has dogged human civilization forever, this cannot have happened. The good news is, it still could if we all look out for one another and maintain a sense of unity and civilization at all levels of society. For instance, were there no such thing as homelessness, this poor fellow's face wouldn't have been there to be chewed off.

The face biter (he did not eat the man, he bit and spit) was on a drug called "bath salts", it's recently hit the streets here in Canada so it's in the news lately. It's a hallucinogen that causes severe aggression. So this one is not about cannibalism but about bad street drugs.

The body parts mailed to our politicians are getting press because it's absolutely sensational, in that such an occurrence is nearly unheard of. This one also not about cannibalism.

As for the murder victims being partially eaten, I assume a certain unbalance in those who take the lives of others already. It's not really a huge leap when you put it into that perspective. The percentage of the populace who kill is very small, the percentage of those who would eat bits of a victim smaller still. It's a freak of nature, not something that is going to become more widespread in my opinion.

I'll simply say that taking a few scattered reports of seriously deviant behavior and stringing them together as though they are related and indicative of a larger social shift is a real stretch. Bad stuff happens all the time but I, as all of you, am surrounded by people all the time and I see how they behave. Mindlessly sometime but hardly ever violent or outrageously vindictive.

I will link them together, as in I am highly suspicious of this sudden "cannibal chic" craze.

Tin foil time: I find it odd that both the face-cannibal and the roommate cannibal seem to be immigrants. They both look Black and their names seemed French (at least one) so I immediately thought of Haiti.

Could they have been refugees who were vaxxed as prevention of some "dis-ease" from the earthquake or whatever? Things that make ya go hmmm...

How do you take the leap from two unrelated incidents of psychological aberration in two different parts of a vast continent, link them by race, then to socio-economic status, then to monolithic medical malfeasance, all without any evidence?

Please, please be careful; it's this kind of riffin' on maybes that leads to things like ethnic ethnic cleansing and unjustified interminable wars.

Veronique, I totally agree that it is/was disgusting. That's how I felt when I read about the first one in Florida a few days ago. Instead I read to her Little House on the Prairie and other books written years ago that are pretty harmless. I didn't let her online until she was in 7th grade, no cell phone until 9th grade.

So I blame parents, also, for allowing their kids to be submerged in this sex and violence trash when they're very young. They see it or read it and think that's life and that's how people behave and then they do, too.

I delayed media for my son as well. He still gets a fraction of what other kids his age do but even still, he's exposed at school and via friends. It's an absolute crime, the things our young people watch, read and do at such a tender young age. Where is the innocence? Stolen from them by big corporations who see them as nothing but a market. Shame.

Tam, what exactly are you suggesting I was suggesting? Let me clarify: I find it highly coincidental that both these "cannibals" seem to be immigrants of color. In no way am I coming down on them. I am wondering if they were victims of some sort of refugee "program" (by lovely Europeans wanting to "help" the very people they've been colonizing for centuries) by vaxxing them with something that makes them "go off" at a predetermined time.

Both of the well-known cannibal stories last week occurred in America, so I don't know what you are talking about w/"continents."

Strangely enough, we also have this Candadian cannibal porn star and while he is White, his name suggests that he is Italian and possibly an immigrant, also.

I am suggesting that "they" (whoever may really be engineeering this all) may be using immigrants to demonize them and make them seem less than human. How you brought ethnic cleansing into this is a mystery.

If you think I am implying that the lovely Europeans going around vaxxing Africans may be some genocidal plot, well...yeah, it may very well be, IMO.

Someone might ask: but why would "they" do such a thing? What would it accomplish? For the mentally ill, it pushes them over the edge. For the rest of us, it gives us the impression that life is random and insane. It might be, but maybe most of the instances where it's crazy is because someone is deliberately trying to make us feel this way. It threatens to weaken our energy by creating more fear. Even though I'm a big 'conspiracy theorist', I think it's a combination of - like I said - 'the breakdown of civilized society' (because of media, chemicals, drugs) and like coco said - he was high on bath salts.

Kid, the problem is that the SAD eaters have been around for decades. And as for the bath salts, that is also not a new thing.

The first thing they said was a bad LSD trip, which I found very odd. Then they said something about synthetic LSD and then the bath salts. Bath salts (from what I have heard) are closer in intoxication to amphetemines. I even heard something suspect it was meth.

I say that none of these explanations make any sense. Even meth heads have not been known (to my knowledge) to start eating other humans. And the multiple cases during one week (including the person who threw his intestines at the cops!) is very, very odd timing.

The roommate cannibal was from Ghana. I just read the linked piece in HuffPo. As I suspected, his name sounded like he was from Africa. I still have not found out any more info about the face-biter's country of origin.

In any case, I am concerned for undocumented people who still are planning to come here--whether sneaking in or overstaying visas.

I am against illegal immigration for many reasons, but I am seeing trends that give pause. Will Mexicans become the new Muslims? Stories of beheadings south of the border are fairly odd, even for "drug gangs."

That you are suggesting that refugees or foreign nationals are victims of some sort of global plot to create--I don't know, a zombie army?--does not change the fact that the reasoning is what we've seen historically in those that make excuses to persecute and oppress. I know that this is not what you are advocating for, but if you were serious, you're really reaching beyond credulity in trying to find an explanation for these attacks. Thus, I was assuming that you were just "going way out there" in this conversation, the way that people do when caught up in an avid discussion with their peers, and that you weren't serious about what you were positing; you did preface an early post with, "Tin foil time." You betcha.
