I've been wondering WHEN they come in season. I've been checking the Asian markets sporadically, but with no luck. >.<

I think I started a "favorite fruit" thread last year. I still haven't got my hands on the black sapote. I'd really like to try one.

Does anyone know if there are any fruits that taste like vanilla?

What type and where are you getting those badboys! I had fresh figs when I was on my honeymoon in Sicily a couple of years ago. Those were some sick figs. They grew everywhere. Even out of cracks in walls. Had some good cactus fruit too.

I'll be eating a big bowl of kiwi (green) for dinner but I still can't get peaches out of my mind.

I think that I am getting brave enough to give durian a second shot. I just wish I lived near someone who knew what they were supposed to be like so I know that I am eating a good one.

Dunno the variety but they are fresh California figs.
Available in the SF bay area.
They look like the middle purple fig in photo.

Gorgeous!!! I just had my first figs of the season -- one delish, one no flavor. That's okay; they'll get better.

So the purple figs are Mission figs which I've had for the past few weeks from the market. Then today I noticed a green fig tree in my friend's back yard and to my luck over fifty (>50) figs were ripe. So we picked then and neatly placed them in an oak wine box. Boy are they ever soft and sweet. As sweet if not sweeter then the purple Missions. Then I noticed a plum tree in the neighbor's yard just over the fence which has quite a few hefty branches over hanging to my friend's side. They are not quite ripe yet but I have my eyes on them. smiling smiley Had the first tomatoes from my garden today and they blew away store bought ones. The chocolate cherry tomatoes exploded bursts of flavor in my mouth and the early girl was sweet as sugar. Soon the wild blackberries will be ready for picking. I'm a maniac when I attack a fully mature huge berry bush. I wear long sleeves so to not get pricked by the thorny stems. YUMMY! They grow wild around here!

Good California fig info
(disregard the baked vegan fig pastries)

Thanks for the idea, warm-glow--I'll be foraging wild blackberries for the first time very shortly, didn't think about the sleeves! =D

Actually it's an old (torn) Gortex rain jacket. Remember to wear boots and gloves too.
Happy foraging! smiling smiley
