These days I find that it's very hard to reach the point where I'm running to the toilet after watermelon my body absorbs every last drop of it....my body has become very effecient at using what it needs.....years ago I'd be running to the rest room every five minutes.

I think it was Dr. Oz one day who I saw talking about the idea that when a man has difficulties that might make him seek out viagra, it often is the first indication of blood flow problems that are a warning of heart problems. ie: if the heart isn't getting adequate blood flow, perhaps some other areas aren't either.

So if a man has problems like that, it can be the first warning of a future heart attack. Makes sense that watermelon, and probably lots of other fruits and veggies would help him, but it scares me that all the viagra commercials make it sound like this isn't anything serious. Just take a pill and let the fun begin....

It may improve sexual performance, but if this is a larger health issue, and it doesn't get addressed, it could be very harmful in the long run. It may be very personal and hard for a man to go and talk to his doctor about, but it is a shame that men aren't encouraged to do so in the same way that women are encouraged to go and talk about changes in their breasts or getting their annual pap tests.

I would be devastated to lose any of the men in my family or friends just because they were too shy to go and talk about this with their doctor, but yet, I can't imagine a single one of them being comfortable telling anybody that their "equipment" isn't working the way they wish it would! If this is correct, there should be way more of an effort to make people aware of it.

From the article:

"More citrulline - about 60 percent - is found in watermelon rind than in the flesh, Patil said, but that can vary. But scientists may be able to find ways to boost the concentrations in the flesh, he said."

This morning I had a tall glass of watermelon rind juice, followed by a great BM and a RELAXED and satisfying 5K "4th of July" morning road race. It was just the thing smiling smiley

"She said Patil's research is valid, but with a caveat: One would need to eat about six cups of watermelon to get enough citrulline to boost the body's arginine level."

Ha! .. no problem there

"Another issue is the amount of sugar that much watermelon would spill into the bloodstream - a jolt that could cause cramping, Perkins-Veazie said. Patil said he would like to do future studies on how to reduce the sugar content in watermelon."

The glycemic index strikes again! Sure, the sugar in watermelon digests quickly, BUT there is not much of it, especially if we include the rind in the calculations.. see "glycemic load" .. just my opinions

May I rent your bladder and kidneys? smiling smiley
The other evening I made the mistake of eating a half of a large watermelon. :0
I woke up every two hours and had to pee in the worst way each time.

Since it's such a powerful diuretic, is it possible that there is a water loss by eating watermelon? Sure seems that way. smiling smiley

"A half of a large watermelon" holds about 12 cups of water. Drinking that much plain water could also be considered a "powerful diuretic". The difference is the watermelon has the vitamins, minerals and enzymes to help cleanse your system.. leaving you fully hydrated and mineralized when you are done peeing off the excess H2O (in case you ate it when already fully hydrated).. imo

I didn't know watermelon was such a great diuretic and source of nutrients-- that's great! For some reason I have never cared for the taste at any point in my life. I tried it again last week after avoiding it for decades, and it was okay, but I could kind of take it or leave it.

I think I'll try it again and make juice with it this time, as I'm starting a juice fast again today.

Of course you can...we can set up a payment plan....ha,ha.....

Yeah water melon doesn't seem to effect me in that way anymore, personaly I think that if you need to be flushed your body will make it happen, if you don't your body will use the materials to build.

Just my guess for now

I've probably eaten 50 cups of watermelon/day for the past ten days now, and MY MY MY I feel awesome!!!

The bathroom effect seems to have decreased, too...

The, "But you'd have to eat a WHOLE SIX CUPS" part made me chuckle. =)

I can eat 6 lbs. of watermelon over the course of a day..not hard to do as it's so much water content.

Cut open, leave out and spoon when you want..right into your mouth. While people were eating Strawberry shortcake yesterday I sat and ate straight from the big bowl of watermelon. It was an excellent watermelon. Today I have 2 more to dig into in the next couple dayssmiling smiley

Love,
Prism

In the past, I've eaten an entire 21 pound watermelon (not including the rind, which is a significant fraction of that weight). I ate it in 3 meals, each one using 1/3 of the melon.
