Date: October 09, 2008 02:03AM Make sure you let them ripen fully. They are so great and alive compared to other heat treated mangoes.

Date: October 10, 2008 08:55PM Not too brag or anything, BUT, I live in the California Central Valley. That means I get fresh produce all year long. I'm literally surrounded by almond orchards. Also a lot of peaches, nectarines, plums, grapes, corn, cherries, strawberries, oranges, lemons, onions, garlic, etc, etc. etc.
I haven't seen any California mangoes yet. I'll have to keep my eyes open for some. Re: California mangoes

Date: October 11, 2008 04:26AM I just bought 4 giant ones since I saw them in the market after reading your post, Bryan. Have you found John's advice to be fairly accurate regarding appropriate ripeness being indicated by similar "give" to a ripe avocado?
I don't want to eat them too early but I don't want to wait too long either... Re: California mangoes

Date: October 11, 2008 05:34AM The "give" is a good sign. Also, the texture of the skin changes. When it is unripe, the skin is slippery. But after it ripens, the skin isn't as slippery, it is a bit wrinkled or it sort of sticks to your finger rather than slips underneath it. Re: California mangoes
