Has anyone tried Maca? Results?
Posted by: musicbebe ()

I heard Maca can really help with hormonal imbalances. I've also heard that a big mid-section in woman and low sex drive mean hormonal imbalance. Has anyone tried Maca and experienced greater hormonal balance?

I know the key to optimal health does not lie in any one particular food, but a particular food may be needed in greater quantity for a time to facilitate quicker healing.

I love maca!! I would have it every day if I could figure out more ways to consume it. I used to use it daily in green smoothies, but green smoothies stopped agreeing with me. While I was using it I noticed an increase in energy, better mental clarity, and the sex drive definitely went up!!;-) I don't feel there is anything wrong with using it in addition to my whole raw foods, even if only temporarily. I used a table spoon per day in my smoothies.

Just try it, you might like it :-)

I put maca in my green juice. For adrenal fatigue. No difference for me.

Didn't like it. Gave me palpitations just like strong coffee. Too much of a stimulant for me. For me it is not a food.

I took about a tablespoon a day for a few months awhile back. I didn't notice a huge difference other than a bit more creative energy, mental clarity and increased libido. I haven't had a problem with hormonal imbalance in quite awhile, so I can't help you there. The thing that I've discovered about eating high-vibrational foods such as maca is that it will raise your conscious awareness in whatever area it targets (in this case it would be your second (sacral) chakra). If you have any physical, mental or emotional issues that need healing in that chakra then it will more than likely bring it up for you if you take it long enough. I've found that it will accentuate whatever is there, in other words.

I've been using two teaspoons, about 5 grams and noticed an increase in awareness, energy, clarity of mind and overall well being. Please note I'm using MacaSure by Sequel Naturals. I think a lot of the effect depends on getting a proper dose and adjusting it for your body. Brendan Brazier recommends starting out with 1.5 grams (a little less than a teaspoon) and gradually increasing it until you get an effect, not more than 10 grams (about 1 & 1/2 tablespoons).

It grows in Peru and is harvested in to both raw powder, and a gelatinized (no animal products, just means starch is removed) version that can be purchased in bulk or pills/capsules. Bulk is more cost-effective.

Maca is grown primarily in the mountains of Peru.
It is a root crop.
Maca is known to improve hormonal balance.

Since Maca is known to improve hormonal balance, then the people of Peru should be hormonally balanced. Are they?

And what is the second chakra? Who comes up with these things?

HI, after I read this thread I ran to the health food store to get Maca. They only had caps, so I bought them. The directions said to take one three times a day with meals. After I took the second cap, I felt like I had taken a hit of speed. (I'm from the 70's...). I also found I was biting my tongue a lot due to bitchiness. It took me a couple of hours to fall asleep and I was beat the next day. I might try it again tomorrow and just take one. But I need the energy boost and it certainly gave it to me.

That sounds horrible, not something I would take. Eat fruit for energy.

I bought some in San Diego in March and started using it in my morning smoothies when I get my monthly "bitchies" -- which is usually two weeks a month, unfortunately. It helps perk me up a bit and definitely makes my mood more positive, but I haven't noticed any libido differences (which is fine).
