I have had really bad allergic asthma in the past it originally went when I started raw food but the last couple of years it has gradually come back, I suspect due to environmental reasons. I keep inhalers just in case of a severe attack but I don't use them for mild asthma as they cause more problems longterm with side effects etc.

Breathing excercises help,

What symptoms are you experiencing currently? Do you feel that you need some immediate relief?

Is this a new problem for you. Is the enviromental pollution high where you are?

So many factors to consider.

Well done for exploring all the possibilities. there will be folk on here with lots of experience I am sure.

I had severe asthma as a child, and to this day environmental pollutants trigger it. My parents smoked around me, and this triggered it to the point where I almost died on a regular basis (they weren't exactly functional). The few years I smoked as an adult I had it, but most of my adult life I have been a non-smoker, and then rarely have had symptoms. I lived in Northern California until a few years ago, and when I moved to Western Mass. the remaining symptoms went away. Ephedra helped until it was outlawed. I kept inhalers around but rarely used them. The main thing for me that helped was moving to a less polluted area.

Since switching to a raw diet I have never felt the slightest twinge of asthma, and I was told by an asthma specialist about 4 -5 yrs ago I would need inhalers for the rest of my life. I can run in winter on the coldest days and feel fantastic - which was not the case in years past.

Also, meditation and working with fear also helped greatly I think, but being raw gives me the energy to tackle my demons.

---instead of supressing and covering up the symptom, one should focus upon removing the underlying cause (causing the symptom in a first place)...

---what is the real cause...? - the real cause is your being out of the balanced state...

---what result the unbalanced state...? - many factors and sub-factors...., where the main factor is "enervation" (improper foods and eating behavior, too little rest and sleep, too little fresh clean air, too little sun-light, etc etc...)

---"enervation" results in "toxemia" or "toxicity" of the body, which is then manifested via different chronic and/or acute disease symptoms, where "allergic asthma" symptom is one among many other x-symptoms...

---you cannot cure disease, and you cannot cure with foods..., no matter how proper foods are...

---but, you CAN remove the cause behind your disease...

---how...? - by allowing your body to heal and recover back to its by nature intended natural balanced state of health..., by trusting your body's inner intelligence and ability and allowing your body to take care of itself...

---how exactly...? - by undergoing of a complete rest in fast...

===IME, this is the only constructive, productive and efficient way to go, if you are really looking to resolve the problem..., it may seem challenging at first, but will bring you the most rewarding result at last...

---I share from my own experience of "allergic" "asthma"..., I know you can break free from it..., the "doctors" magic pills - all the cortison-based-inhalors, are the real waste of your time, money and health...

can you describe your "complete rest in fast"

I've been told recently not to fast because of an emergency situation
that arose during a fast...metabolic acidosis... severe hypoglycemia because of the fast with ketosis... i'm very conflicted at the moment...because i agree a fast is the best way to rid my body of toxins... but...now i'm a bit scared i suppose...

..as an aside, good job on the pH testing....

The normal (urine) values range from 4.6 to 8.0.

A highly acidic urine pH occurs in:

Acidosis
Uncontrolled diabetes
Diarrhea
Starvation and dehydration
Respiratory diseases in which carbon dioxide retention occurs and acidosis develops

A highly alkaline urine occurs in:

Urinary tract obstruction
Pyloric obstruction
Salicylate intoxication
Renal tubular acidosis
Chronic renal failure

Respiratory diseases that involve hyperventilation (blowing off carbon dioxide and the development of alkalosis)
In people who are not vegetarians, the pH of urine tends to be acidic. A diet rich in citrus fruits, legumes, and vegetables raises the pH and produces urine that is more alkaline.

---so, readiness and willingness, and complete trust must all together be present at one...i

---if you really are interested to understand more about fasting, make your own reasearch to make your own informed decision and if you want to proceed with that or not..., ultimately, only your own experiencing is what matters really...

Hi luvyuu,

I used an inhaler for the last 18yrs for what was supposed to be asthma. I started to eat 85% raw on 1/1/09 & have progressed to 95 or so these last 2 weeks. I have not had to use my inhaler except for the 2 times I had a steggioni pizza. No red sauce, lots of veggies but still with white flour crust.

If you can tough it out, I would not use one. I have had numerous ulcers in my mouth over the years. If you do use one, be sure to wash your mouth thoroughly with water as soon as your done. However, it stinks not being able to breathe. Is it possible you have food allergies. That is what it turns out I have. I shoveled snow for 1hr today & still didn't need to use one. The rawer I stay, the more I don't need it. It is good to know it's there in a crisis though. Maybe you could just get the medicine & not use it unless there's a real need.

I pray that Jesus would heal you of this breathing problem. I hope this helps you.

Blessings....
Joe

---..OK..smiling smiley

---"complete rest in fast" or "complete fast" or "absolute fast" - all these terms mean abstaining from eating and drinking any conventional food and water, while offering the body-mind a complete rest at the same time, meaning no enervation or outside intervention should be allowed, only attention and care for body to let it initiate and complete its own healing job...

---it is also called "dry fast", however you should never force upon yourself abstaining from drinking water IF and WHEN your body signals for TRUE thirst..., at the same time you neither should force upon yourself drinking water when your body don't really ask for it and show no real signs for thirst..., first it seems difficult to read and understand body language right, but the more you practice fasting and observe your self the more you get it right...

---regarding "detox" and "asthmatic" or any other symptomatic reaction..., you can "regulate" the intensity of your body detox by gradully decreasing or increasing of eating/drinking of least harmful foods/liquids which are easy on your body, such as gently squeezed fresh raw organic sunripe high-water fruits (i use lemons, grapefruits and oranges)..., detox symptoms can be hard, so use your mindful observation and learn from your experiencing while adjusting and switching between the feasting and fasting mode..., as well, first i was afraid for my "asthmatic" reaction and tried to supress it with different inhalors, however one day i decided that i will try to go through and allow my body reaction to take its course, allow it to completely manifest itself as it is, without any intervention or supression of it..., and to my suprise after allowing it to happen, i not only survived, i got relieved from the body's inner blocked clogged up accumulated "matter" getting it out of my system..., from that point of my experience and realisation i have never ever taken any more drugs-remedies to obstruct and supress my body's natural reactions and symptoms, instead allowing them to completely and freely manifest themself...

---remember, lungs are one major and most efficient medium (similarly as your body's skin) to expell and transport out the bad adverse accumulated waste stuff out of your system and organs..., to hinder this path, body must find some other way to get rid of that (or signal about the acute urgency to do it)..., which delays any relief and possibility to heal even more, making situation worse and more dangerous and acute...

---complete rest means:... sleep as much as possible, and/or rest eyes closed, while breathing fresh clean air deeply and relaxed, directing your whole focus and attention (healing energy) to your body's different organs (lay your hand(s) on the "pain/disease" spot and feel it...

---OBS! it IS natural, the more purified and clean your organism/organs system become, the more sensitive and receptive you become and the more pronounced and sharp reactions and symptoms you will experience if and when ingesting bad harming for your body stuff..., similarly as your young still unclogged body reacted more strongly to poisons ingested...

---these are the natural reactions of the intelligent body not to fear but to learn to take right action from...

I got my girfriend on a high raw,low-fat vegan diet and she was taking oral medication and using two inhalers. After about 6 months her symptoms stopped and she is off all medication...if she eats nuts, however, she starts to wheez. If you are overweight, losing it will help a lot.

Most of the nuts have been cooked in the processing. Maybe the truly raw nuts will work OK for her ? I don't think you can buy truly raw nuts from a retailer anymore, I've heard that you have to get them direct from a farmer.

it sounds weird to me that the doctor would suggest taking a drug to see if it helps pinpoint wether you have asthma or not .. nearly anyone that would take a puff on an inhaler would probably feel like their airways open a bit but that doesnt mean everyone has asthma ... its like telling me lets drop a rock on my head to see if my skull has cracks !

I wouldnt take any medication without knowing whats wrong with you. You should probably take the tests instead of playing guinea pig with your health

you have mentioned in the past having eating disorder, binging on nuts, stress, starting a new job in december, leg cramps, acidosis , trouble breathing ... are there other things going on in your life that could be causing all this anxiety ?

anxiety??? hahaha....there's an understatement... well no job in December... but you pay attention...... the rest is true... i get so stressed about my health...and what i eat or don't eat i'm starting to think it's doing more harm then good... and after all this natural healing i end up taking meds anyway??? i don't want to do the inhalor i didn't do the prilosek he suggested as well... i don't even take asprin for a headache... or ibuprophen for the dibilitating cramps i have on my periods... which is why i do the fasts i do...because it lessons the pain... i'm so frustrated right now... i'm ready to forget all the natural stuff and just live life... pop pills and eat what i want... only i do feel minutely better when i eat raw... but i still have problems... damned if i do damned if i don't... yes it causes anxiety...i'm very paralyzed emotionally like i was just the other day...i think i've been this way for a long time and now it's affecting me physically... and honestly i don't what to do about it.... i know lungs is sadness and grief and living life... i'm rambling...

nah yer not rambling you said more enlightening things in a few senteces then you can imagine smiling smiley

ok now .. breathe deep ... ! I think you know whats wrong but not knowing what to do about it all is causing alot of your issues.

Instead of charging head on into major changes what about backing down a bit to .. as David Mason is so elequently puts it .. to a place where you are back feeling comfortable and go from there. It sounds like you are jumping from the frying pan into the fryer and squirting lighter fluid while your jumping around. smiling smiley

I am not sure what you do to relax but yoga and tai chi do alot to help center and focus .. i do alot of mild mat or floor yoga in the evening on the bed or floor and it helps so much with bringing oxygen to the brain and helping you sleep better which i can imagine you are probably not sleeping too good with all your stress and anxiety.

If you cant afford to go to a class or two to learn how then rent a vid from the vid store or even better get one free for a few weeks from your local liabrary.

just some ideas smiling smiley

yes... i do yoga regularly... i'm certain i coulld use a class for some imporvement....but what i need is someway to relax my thoughts...i can do a nice long yoga session... but my mind is like a 12 ring circus... even when i meditate... my thoughts go on and on and on... i have a decision to make and i have so many pros and cons about every little thing... i can control what i put in my body for the most part... i can control the moves my body makes...for the most part... but i can't seem to control my thoughts... i focus... but then it's off to the races... i have to be 200% focused all the time...to keep my thougts at bay... and it's exhausting...all the raw foods in the world can't deal with this... i guess there is no room to breath really... and i suppose my thoughts are too acid... and somehow the emotional eating helps... the emotions but not the body... the yoga helps the body but not the emotions...and the spirit... well... i rely too much on prayer...

President Bill Clinton is known for his ability to "compartmentalize" his thoughts. He has the ability to call up and put away thoughts like you would call up and put away a program or file on a computer.

Some people who meditate use a technique of visualizing their random thought as words written in the sand that get washed away whenever they occur.

I find it helpful to do both compartmentalizing and sand washing. First I wash away the unwanted random thoughts and then I "click" them closed. I find that it is like lifting weights in that like a bar of soap you have to pick it up and apply it in order for it to work and as the exercise is done regularly it becomes easier and you get stronger.

EZ rider,

Sometimes, I'm reading a thread and nodding along with what everyone is saying, and then I read your post and it's like a bolt to my brain giving me sudden supreme clarity. Thanks! And I hope luvyuu can take this advice--it's so good!

well... i'm not sure i understand the compartmentalizing of thoughts... i can understand the sand imagery for the most part... i've always used clouds in the sky or water in a river... and i do agree completely with the practice makes you stronger.... it's just... i lose focus... i feel like my brain is sort of short on something...and i start out with good intentions...but then somewhere in the mix i forget what i'm doing or i get so easily distracted and i'm wandering once again in the forest...aimless...angry that i let myself get distracted again...i think it's how i've brought myself to the health prediciament i am in...

anyone know of a person or a place where i could go for help... i'm not rich but i am a hard worker...so work trade would be preferrable...but i think doing this on my own isn't working for me any more...

luvyuu,

---so, now we are at the healing in mind question...:

---a) do not try to conroll or supress your thoughts...,

---b) let thoughts flow freely, but do not identify your "I-being" with the made up "self" concepts...,

---c)... - meaning, only the "I AM" IS really true..., and NOT the "I am X", which is a false identification with concepts and beliefs made up and maintained by the ego and egoic thinking...,

---d)...- so, just be the "I AM" in observing of the thoughts flow, but not in identifying with its content...,

---e) then, understand AND remember, that the only true and real reality IS the reality of the present NOW..., where the "past" and "future" are NOT real, as these are derived from and maintained by your identification with ego concepts and beliefs...,

---f) when you realize that only "I AM" IS true and real, and that all the identification with thoughts concepts and beliefs IS false, you realize that only your "I AM" beingness in the present NOW is true and real always...,

---here you have a core meaning and purpose of meditation...,

---direct your whole attention on to your body and feel it, feel its breathing and alivness..., by doing that, it will be more easy to switch your attention from thoughts-concepts identification over in to the state of the "observer"..., to keep on track of just observing, count your every breath to 10 and start over again, until the thoughts identification is finally and completely relesed...

---finally, if you feel it is hard on your own, find and join some meditation group teaching-practicing "Vipassana" (insight meditation) or "Metta Bhavana" (love-compassion meditation), the basic courses should not be too expensive..., or get an audio "guiding meditation" CD and lissten to it...
