What do you do with your aloe vera?

I have a huge amount of aloe vera growing in my yard and wonder how one would eat/juice it. How do you eat/juice your aloe vera?

Mona

Glance at the past, but don’t stare at it.

I blend it into a smoothie with bananas, soaked seeds, soaked dried fruit and more.

I have several pot plants in my house. I have never eaten it - i must look into that, thanks for the idea. I use it when i burn myself. I snap a little piece off and rub the sap all over the burn - it's very cooling. I think that the burns heal more quickly.

Rob-This may sound like a stupid question, but do you peel it first and use only the soft part on the inside? Or do you use the whole thing?

Mona

It is not the experience if today that drives people mad----it is the remorse or bitterness for something which happened yesterday and the dread of what tomorrow may bring.

Yep, I peel it first and just use the fleshy gel. The skin is edible but is a laxative so I wouldn't recommend it.

Wow! Thanks for the tip, Rob. OK, I'll try it in my green smoothies, fleshy gel only.

How well do aloe vera plants respond to having bits snapped off of them? i.e. how much can be broken off without killing the plant?

I saw one in a garden centre sale the other day and almost bought it, but stopped when it occured to me I'd feel pretty mean breaking lumps off it!
