60-80 calories for 4 cups.

Sometimes there is a label on the package with an exact number.

You probably won't find it for sunflower sprouts per se but other sprouted seed info which is very similar is available from the USDA nutrient database and the numerous online nutrient calculators that use it. Exact calorie content for sprouts is tricky because it varies with the length of the sprout.

What a co-incidence - i have just set some sunflower seeds to sprout. I don't get on with other sprouts at all but will try these.

Do you think that all sprouts are likely to cause the same reaction? i.e. bloating, gas and pain etc

How long do you let the sprouts grow please?

Yes.

[How long do you let the sprouts grow please?]

Shorter will be less painful.

And keep quantities small.

ok there seems to be some confusion here...
I am talking about sunflower greens...
NOT sunflower seed sprouts.
Sunflower greens DO NOT cause bloating/gas....

Yes, they do. If you don't believe me, try eating 10 cups of them in one sitting.

arugula,

Why on earth would anyone eat 10 cups of sunflower greens in one sitting? I am also wondering, now that we're on the topic, why some people admit to experiencing gastric distress upon eating sprouts. Barring allergy or over-ripening of sprouts[catalyzes inhibitors], isn't the process of sprouting digestion-aiding? This has been my experience. Anyone?

I ate about 8 cups of spinach once. It was a horrible mistake that I never repeated. I think sprouts would be worse. I've never tried more than a half cup at a time for reasons of cost and fear of feeling the same kind of pain (it was almost 20 years ago and I still remember the horrible details). But lettuce is easier. I can easily do 10 cups of lettuce in a single meal.

Anyway, I think sprouts do cause GI distress, it's probably the cellulose content. Longer = more cellulose. Some people might be ok with a few tbsp in a single session.

arugula,
Boy! You like your roughage, as the old docs might say! I eat maybe one cup of sprouts, loosely packed, in a single sitting. I usually mix it with an equal amount of a single type of lettuce, such as cos or butter. And I chew, chew, chew. I cannot imagine consuming more than that at one time, adore them though I do. A small amount of sunflower greens should be OK; they are supposed to be easily digested, [www.wheatgrasskits.com]I shall have to guinea pig myself now by growing and consuming some. Sometimes these discussions are like vague challenges to me: "Sunflower Greens, pistols at dawn, sir! Name your seconds!"

HUH

"5 papaya
7 banana"

That is a lot! How can you eat so many bananas and papayas in ONE day??

When I was 100% raw I used to eat about 1-2 bananas/day (one of them was blended as an ingredient in sesame-seed milk)

And where are the (soaked) sunflowed seeds, almonds, etc.. in your diet?
Your diet sounds quite monotonic..

Wow, everyone must be different. I ate a sprout salad (1 1/2 c. pea shoots, 1 1/2 c. blend of alfalfa, radish and clover, and 3/4 c. mung, adzuki and lentil blend with a cup of tomatoes) for lunch yesterday, and it didn't bother me a bit. Hmmm...
I'd be sad if I couldn't eat my sprouts!

I'm trying to stop or eat very little of sunflower seed and greens.
I love sunflower seeds and greens but I gain a lot of weight with them.

By the way papaya seeds are great for parasites.

windy - I am very happy without nuts and seeds. I easily could eat 5 papaya and 7 bananas.

I have 2 - 3 bananas before i run and then 2 afterwards in some kind of fruit smoothie and then more in the afternoon if i get peckish. I do eat other fruit of course.

I must add that I would vary the fruit more but other fruit, such as mango's etc. is very expensive in England (no markets where i live in deepest rural England)

Sundancer - I wish i could tolerate sprouts but i have come to realise that I just can't eat them at all. If I ate what you described I would be writhing in agony for hours. Never mind.
