I want to purchase a vermicomposter and am wondering if I should be concerned about them being made of plastic. Will the warm, moist, active environment leech petrochemicals and xenoestrogens out of the plastic into the compost? Your input would be appreciated. thanks, Smiling Re: Vermicomposter & plastic

Date: April 01, 2009 12:13AM alot of the vermicomposters out there are simple rubbermaid containers type things modified to use .. and generally those arent food grade .. you can make the same thing out out of food grade 5 gallon plastic buckets on a smaller scale but you will have to micromange the eco system in a more dilegent manner as the buckets are only about20liters compared to the 40-60 liters of the bigger tubs (personally i prefer the 5 gallon buckets as its easier size wize for me to move dump and refresh new buckets with worms and new compost) ...Jodi, the banana eating buddhist Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
