Who to let clean my teeth
Posted by: rawne ()

I have an appointment in a few weeks with a holistic dental office to have my teeth
cleaned. They did a lot of restorative work on my mouth last year & it's time for me to go back for my regular six-month cleaning. Their fee for a basic cleaning is $95. Another local dentist here charges $29 but they are not holistic.

Can anyone make an argument for paying the higher fee to have the hygienist in the holistic office clean my teeth? The only difference I can imagine between the two offices would perhaps be in the tooth polish used, the holistic practice leaning towards a more natural product (I could always bring my own toothpaste to play it safe).

With your Diet, you shouldn't need to have your teeth
cleaned. How many animals in Nature do so? There should be very little
Tartar buildup with the Raw Vegan Diet.
I haven't had my teeth cleaned in over 30 years, and I'd put them up
against anyone.
I use a little Baking Soda to brush after every meal, then put a small
amount of Pascalite Clay in my mouth. My teeth and gums feel alive....WY
P.S. Just because a doctor says to do something, doesn't mean you have
to do it.

WY,
Somehow I thought you'd respond lol.
Within a few months of having my teeth cleaned last year, my dentist commented that there was already some plaque buildup so I don't know. Perhaps genetics has something to do with it. And since my teeth are already in a compromised state (born into & raised on a junk food diet & then neglecting my already compromised teeth for decades) I'm not sure I'm willing to chance it.

rawne,

Damage to the teeth from childhood may require several kinds of dental intervention, and it's better to be safe than sorry, as they're the only teeth you've got : ) I say, go to the holistic dentist for now, and follow WY's advice for the future. Good luck!

Well, I don't have any real information on this but I go to a regular dentist (student dentist really, very cheap), and it seems fine for me. You only use their products that one time, after that at home you can use your own natural stuff. I think its good to go to the dentist unless you are gifted with perfect teeth or follow a perfectly health diet for the pearly whites. I thought it was kind of BS for a few years. I don't to go other doctors and my body is fine, why wouldn't my teeth be? I didn't go. But during that time I got like 4 cavities, a lot of decay, gingivitis and my wisdom tooth impacted. That was a lot of tooth work I could have avoided had I just gone regularly.

Of course you should go if you have tooth problems.
You missed the question....the Topic is teeth cleaning. My point
is the Saliva of proper Raw Vegan Diet doesn't allow Tartar (plaque)
to form....WY

I'm still not getting my Point across. I'm saying that
Rawne doesn't need to have her teeth cleaned. At the risk of going
overboard, it all boils down to a Philosophy of Life....of not
depending on others for anything that you can do yourself....even
preventative checkups, teeth cleanings, hair cutting, car maintenance,
filling out your own Income Tax forms, etc., etc.
It just infuriates me how people are so dependent on doctors....WY

Wheatgrass Yogi I would argue that not very many animals in the wild live to 80-90 years old, so many of them never get the chance to have cavities. I say see a dentist, at the very least have them look for abnormalties. If you've had dental work in the past it will need updating overtime. Better a check up than a sore tooth.

I wear a plastic retainer 24 hours a day, I'm sure the plastic is bad for me and breaks down over time, but the alternative is extreme jaw pain from TMJ. I'll take toxic plastic over extreme pain and nerve damage anyday. Sometimes you have to give in to modern medicine. Sometimes it serves a purpose.

Most people, even here, consider going to doctors as
being 'normal'. My approach, from a 100% Raw Vegan Organic Food
Diet point-of-view, tells me we can are responsible for our own
Bodies. In fact, we know our own Body as no other possibly could.
As far as dental care goes, I use my tongue to 'feel' for plaque,
and have two Dental Picks to scrape it, if needed. A small mirror
is also useful. Regular checkups and cleanings are not needed, and
are only money making schemes. If a tooth needs care, have it repaired.
But in no way leave your own Health to others....WY
