Questions, questions....

Date: June 17, 2009 11:16PM Hey everyone!
I'm new to raw foods, at the moment I'm a vegan, and starting raw soon. I have a few questions... 1. I've read a lot of these forms, and some raw meal plans, and I know I won't be able to fallow it because I can't take that much fruit! I get flush cheeks from the sugar, my mouth swells up, and I get sores. And I also question the health of so much sugar.... 2. Vitamins? At the moment I take Solgar vegetarian sugar and starch free vitamins. I think I'm going to need the b vitamins, I can't get em' anywhere else. Raw vitamins? 3. Sprouts? How often do you eat sprouts? Everyday? Thank you SO much! Ceelaiiaree Re: Questions, questions....

As far as fruit goes, everyone is different, but are you eating ripe, organic fruits to which you are absolutely NOT allergic? You can always try more greens and fats initially, or try mixing small amounts of organic acidic or subacidic fruits with greens in juices or blended drinks and see if you can't tolerate fruit this way, with greens acting as a buffer. I don't really take vitamins, but Garden of Life makes a raw one called Vitamin Code that is good. You will find a lot of disagreement on the boards about supplementation, with people generally advising that you go by how you feel without supplements and/or by having comprehensive blood tests run every so often to see how you are doing. When I remember to grow them, I eat sprouts a few times a week. I use them up before three days have expired, because they can get somewhat noxious after that, and I vary what I sprout from week to week. Oh, when I say sprouts, I mean seeds, like radish, alfalfa, broccoli, onion; not grains. Keep us posted! Re: Questions, questions....

I know it's not anything I should be taking meds for. I just have a low tolerance for acidic things, and sugar. Thanks! Re: Questions, questions....

But I guess it's possible. Re: Questions, questions....

1) So don't eat fruits. Stick to mostly fresh greens & sprouts. Eat only those fruits you know you can tolerate well...and eat them by themselves...in small amounts. 2) 'Raw vitamins' are whole foods. Vegan supplementation can be had from various sources & delivery methods. 3) Sprouting CAN be a great addition to your diet...and can certainly be done in batches...and refrigerated....and eaten every day...yes. Mung beans make an excellent starting sprout legume. -David Z. Mason WWW.RawFoodFarm.com Re: Questions, questions....

Date: June 18, 2009 03:26AM David has great advice. Without eating sweet fruit though, an all raw diet would depend on fat for calories, and this will not be healthful. A transitional diet might be a low fat whole food cooked vegan diet with lots of salads, until your body can heal its adverse reactions to sugar. After your body has healed (and it will) you ought to be able to eat sweet fruit. Re: Questions, questions....
