I'm intimidated by papaya

I don't know how to pick one out. Sometimes they're green, sometimes they look like they have mold on them but they're still green, and sometimes they're yellow. I have no idea how to select one or how to identify different breeds. Any tips?

I would like to enlighten you with proof that Hawaiian papaya has been containated by Monsanto's GMO crusade. Visit this non profit organization as I discovered two weeks ago during my Permaculture class. Here you will find a shopping booklet on foods to avoids and much much more...priceless.... www.responsibletechnology.org and also [www.hawaiiseed.org]

LaV,

your post made me think of this song. Was it written for you?

"I met you on somebodys island
You thought you had known me before
I brought you a crate of papaya
They waited all night by your door
You probably wouldnt remember
I probably couldnt forget
Jungle love in the surf in the pouring rain
Everythings better when wet

Jungle love its drivin me mad
Its makin me crazy
Jungle love its drivin me mad
Its makin me crazy"

pakd4fun, you know it's a fine time when Stevie "Guitar" Miller is invoked : )

I haven't had papaya in years, and was going to get some tomorrow. Now that I see what all6senses has posted, I will look for organic ones.
