Whats your sport/fitness choice?
Posted by: powerlifer ()
Date: September 08, 2010 08:42PM

Hey everyone, i say sport but what i mean also is what is everyones preferred fitness tool some prefer swimming, running, cycling etc i was just wondering what everyone is into fitness wise here.

For me ive always been into martial arts since a kid, but as a grew i got into boxing then muay thai which is my main sport/art. I love high intensity cardio it has been proven to be better for cardiac health, fitness levels and weight loss over endurance based sports/fitness. Not that im against endurance fitness just that its not as good as the high intensity.

I could never get into swimming really, i can swim just i dont find it that fun really.

I like to hit the weights also but they have always been secondary to my thai boxing.

So whats everyone else into fitness wise, its great to have a variety it gets boring doing the same fitness choice daily which can put alot off. I also like rebounding for moving the lymph i could sit and bounce all day if i could lol.

Cheers

Bodybuilding/weightlifting. Also wrestled in high school. Mostly solitary sports, I don't play well with others...grinning smiley

I also enjoy rock scrambling/nature/cross country hiking. Anything that pushes you to the limit & gives you a great workout.

I try to do yoga 5 days/week. Also alternate days between running and a cardio routine with weights. My favorite thing to do just for fun is hiking. I like swimming too.

Definitely hiking, preferably for days at a time but barring that walking will do the trick. I'm not a runner. I also have a workout dvd that doesn't make me do any fancy dance moves (i'm terribly uncoordinated) which helps when I am stuck inside.

I do a mix. Explosive sprints combined with all day bike rides and or ultra marathons.

Boxing, kick boxing, hiking, yoga, archery..whatever, whenever.

Ive got another half marathon this Sunday and my current PB is 1:22:35.

I train all the facets of fitness on different days of the week.

Strength
Endurance
Flexibility
Power
Agility

tennis, hiking on wooded trails, and sometimes walking on the beach

On rainy days I go up and down flights of stairs. (I don't go fast, but 100 flights up and down takes me about 45 minutes.)

Durianrider, if you ever find yourself in northern california, look me up, if you like all day bike rides, there are some amazingly beautiful areas up here to ride through,I think youd enjoy it.

Dancing! The best ever. It can be high energy & fast or slower and meditative. It's all fun. smiling smiley I also incorporate aerobic & a bit of yoga-type moves. It can be done anywhere, solo or with others. With or without music. Any type of music can work depending on your mood.

Bikram Yoga(that's me with my Bikram instructor in full camel pose); biking, and some weight resistance.

For me, exercise is as important for my mental health as my physical well being.

P.S.- In my next life, I would love to be a dancer!

Flipperjan,
I saw 'meditation' listed as a weight management tool in some magazine. The yoga manual I checked out from the library said to meditate if you didn't have time to do the poses. I don't imagine it will ever be an olympic event, but I would count it as 'fitness'.

I wouldnt say meditation is a fitness tool as it doesnt increase physical fitness in any way.

But it is a great relaxation and de-stressing toolsmiling smiley. I usually meditate in my FAR infrared sauna with some peaceful chinese tai chi type music.

The state or condition of being fit; suitability or appropriateness. Mentally it helps, physically probably not, thats agreed. It is interesting that someone claimed it did something for weight management. Probably because it destresses, or gives someone something else to do than eat!

A good set of walking shoes to hit my local trail.
A set of barbells for a 3 day a week session in the gym.

Thats it.

But oh so much you can do with them

Thanks, suncloud. Believe me, it feels very good! And really opens up the heart chakra.

Actually, I was born with an unusually flexible spine. Now, my hips are another matter... really need to work to open them up.

Movement for me is definitely spiritual/meditative. I have better success with movement meditation than sitting, though that is good too. It's 2-in-one! smiling smiley
