Chowing Down On Salad

How much salad do you guys eat?

Have you ever considered eat more....a lot more?

I've found my athletic performance and general energy levels are never good when I fail to get my big meals of greens in.

So how much is a big meal of greens? I find that I feel my best when I'm eating 3-6 percent of my calories from greens.

Can you visualize that? Depending on caloric needs, that's probably 1.5 to 3.5 heads of lettuce (using lettuce as an example of vegetable consumption).

I eat amounts of salad that most people find staggering. To see a video of me eating one of these huge salads, check this out: [www.raw-food-health.net]

So do you guys find that, "normal?"

smiling smiley

Enjoy your salad.

-Andrew

A bag (4oz.) a day. Plus other greens, all in a Smoothie. It's not enough.

Yes!! I think you have found the Key. I'm trying to add more Green to my diet, and less Fruit. I have found I'm intolerant to Sugar...no matter what the form.

It sounds great, but there's no way I could afford that...

I have to have at least a pound, trimmed, of soft leafy greens daily, about half of that in a smoothie. I am not 100% raw, so I still eat cooked greens, in addition to raw; some, like rapini, are indedible raw sad smiley I eat a huge salad every day, but I would love to be able to eat a daily commercial-size 6 quart salad bowl full of organic greens. Alas, I have neither the budget nor the time to do so at present smiling smiley

Andrew, I just viewed your video. I don't think you're chewing your food properly.
No wonder people don't eat Salads....it's a lot of work, if done right.

You should definitely work on ways to get cheaper produce: [www.raw-food-health.net]

Shopping smart raw is an acquired skill. Most people don't eat in a way that requires lots of produce, raw foodists do, so it makes sense to learn.

Is cheaper the way to go? You could spend your whole day gathering and eating your Greens.

We all do it our own way. I prefer to live near my food source, and pay whatever is asked. Shopping at several different places just takes too much time, even though you can save money.

Good Lord!
That is a ton of salad.
I could never eat that much at one sitting.
I will eat maybe 1/2 of the first plate a day.

I eat big salads but i must say they annoy me, sitting for an hour non stop chewing after chewing is no fun.

I am in the middle of my Green Experiment (will post in my journal on my website some time soon), eating at least about 0.5 kg of leafy greens plus 2 cucumbers plus other veggies (tomatoes, bean sprouts etc) a day, on top of my sweet fruit.

I observed feeling somewhat more grounded, needing to drink water (greens are SALTY!) and yes, feeling better in general.

Anyone who struggles with staying raw: Have plenty of sweet fruit for energy, and plenty of leafy greens for minerals (those cravings for salty cooked food will go away if you have lots of greens), and plenty of water.

RusticBohemian I enjoyed your website and video. Is there a particular gel standing pad you use or do they seem unecessary?

I ate 1.5 to 2 heads of greens, but they went on the plates first and then I piled fruit, cucumbers, and squash on top.
