Date: September 30, 2006 05:41PM I have being doing yoga for 5 years.
I perform the 5 tibetan exercises every morning it is one the best tonic you can give your body. [www.lifeevents.org] [www.amazon.com] Then after work at home I do about 30 minutes of yoga every day. It is good for me because I do not to go to the gym I can do all exercies on my living room carpet. It is all whole body exercise because it includes deep breathing and many postures for increased flexibility and strength. I like the idea of working on my body and health with the body itself without any special machine or equipment and alwasys at home no matter what the weather is outside. Date: September 30, 2006 09:11PM The word Yoga means 'union'. If you have moved into your feelings....you have done yoga. If you have listened to another person fully - you have done yoga. If you have listened to your own body closely...and moved into it's feelings - you have done yoga. So...all paths lead to the same door. Union

Date: September 30, 2006 09:12PM I also do the five tibetan rites every morning.
These exercises have strengthened me and given me greater flexibility and my body looks and feels better overall. They also have helped me tremendously in regulating my breathing, (I breathed too shallowly and would often unconsciously hold breath) thereby assisting in calming and grounding me as well. ~Kathleen Re: WHO DOES YOGA?

Date: October 01, 2006 12:03AM I've been doing the yoga asanas (postures) about an hour every morning for 20 years this coming January. I learned yoga from Iyengar's book, Light on Yoga.
I believe Iyengar is in his 70s or 80s by now, and he is considered by many to be the greatest hatha yogi alive today. His instructions are very clear and helpful and include even the breathing for each asana. In addition to the asanas, the book includes a lesson in the philosophy of yoga and instructions for pranayama (breathing, in preparation for meditation). After all these years, I've only completed the "primary" course (Appendix I), but even that is quite a challenge as you will see if you happen to get the book. Yoga gave me a more positive spiritual base, a stronger and much more flexible body, better posture, a happy outlook, more confidence, much stronger willpower, easier digestion, plus a whole lot more. Hope you give it a try! Best wishes, -Ally Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/01/2006 12:06AM by Ally. Re: WHO DOES YOGA?

Date: October 01, 2006 12:23PM I also have been doing Yoga for about 4 years before that a Gym rat as they say. The benefits are numerous to mention and personal to each one as well. Yoga keeps me sane. It is such a passion for me. Some immediate benefits would be strenth and flexibilty and that would vary with the type of yoga that you do and the amount of yoga that you do. Yoga came before my Live Foods, but now that I have changed my diet/lifestyle ..They compliment each other well and for sure me!

Date: October 02, 2006 05:22PM La_veronique asks:
"how long has your breathing been "regular' now?" I'm still having to be vigilant. I still notice myself holding or breathing too shallowly from time to time. Habits of a lifetime are hard to break and especially bad breathing habits as they are often subconsciously defensive. To breath deeply is to feel deeply. Also (and I probably should have made this clear in my earlier post) I have only been practicing the "5 Rites" for a few months now. I chanced upon the little book quite by accident and immediately felt a "ping" of resonance and have been doing them since that day. khale (kale was already taken as a screen name and k.hale is actually my real name ; ) Re: WHO DOES YOGA?

Date: October 03, 2006 03:17PM I do yoga almost everyday. Right now I am recovering from a surgery, so it will be another 2 weeks before I can do yoga again, and I miss it SO much! It does so much for you physically, mentally and spiritually. I started doing prenatal yoga when I was pregnant 4 years ago, and have been hooked since then. It's so wonderful. Edited 1 time(s). Date: October 07, 2006 12:36AM Even though I don't do it everyday, I can't imagine my life without it, I feel so blessed to have learned and practiced as much as I have. It's like dancing, it is total expansion if practiced consciously (not like a workout routine, though it has benefits even then). It is so grounding and uplifting and healing. Ahhhhhhh...... Breathing is key. If I try to bypass tuning in to my breath and just hurriedly move this way and that, trying to stretch, I just end up feeling even more disordered. It's the ultimate in taking time out for yourself. I remember the first time I did it, at a free class in university, I felt more awake than I ever had in my entire life.

Date: October 07, 2006 02:13AM Love and Rockets "Kundalini Express" Lyrics
This is an announcement For the transcendental run The train now standing Leaves for higher planes Due to a derailment There will be no other train So why not hop on this one? Hear the porter's glad refrain Each carriage is connected As is every single train The rails all form a track Which is a link within a chain The chain's connected to another chain now You will need no ticket If you wish to ride on this train Chorus: All aboard the express kundalini All aboard the express kundalini All aboard the express kundalini The song is in your heart Your heart is in the song The song is of the earth The song is of the sky You are disintegrating Into everything around Reintegrating The worm we dug from higher ground You have let go of ego Ego is no longer you Closer to nirvana Since the porters whistle blew Re: WHO DOES YOGA?

Date: October 07, 2006 04:09PM Is there a great DVD that teaches yoga that you all like? I do better seeing it than having it in a book.
There are SOOOOOOOOO many DVD's out there that it makes my head spin. What would you all recommend? I know I need this to help me with my dysautonmia until I heal. Thanks! Re: WHO DOES YOGA?

Date: October 07, 2006 09:43PM Yoga is defined as a system for uniting (yolking) with God.
My favorite book on Hatha Yoga, the postures: The Yoga System of Health and Relief From Tension by Yogi Vithaldas All the books by Rammurti S. Mishra go deeper into Yoga. To start I recommend his commentary on Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, the foundation of Yoga: Yoga Sutras The Textbook of Yoga Psychology And lastly I recommend The Book of the Secrets by Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh. He describes 112 techniques or meditations for enlightenment. This is Tantra Yoga. Tantra means technique. Re: WHO DOES YOGA?

I did a quick search and while I didn't find the full version online, I did find a clip: [www.mystrands.com] Love & Rockets is 3/4 of Bauhaus which is the band that really began the gothic rock movement in England in 1979. L&R is a fantastic band and they have some great CD's -- particularly Express and Earth, Sun, Moon. ~raine~ Re: WHO DOES YOGA?

Date: October 09, 2006 03:37PM My favorite Yoga dvd is Shiva Rea's - Yoga Shakti. I love it because you can create your own practice and change it up each time you do it or you can do the ones that she already has in there. And if you are new to Yoga, I highly recommend the Yoga Journal's Step-By-Step DVD's with Natasha Rizopolous. I also do Brain Kest's Power Yoga dvd. That is a tough workout! Re: WHO DOES YOGA?

Date: October 12, 2006 04:22AM I wish I could get it, I have done it so many times, even went on a Yoga raw food cruise.. Its so boring, I fall asleep, i do, it seems like yoga teachers are all fat. I am a dancer and we do yoga moves but we call it stretching. maybe that is why, I am definitely into getting a workout not sitting on the floor. sorry! I tried so hard to get into it, but you don't have to be into yoga to be raw foodist! Re: WHO DOES YOGA?

AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NNNNNOOOOOO!!!!!! *so sad* i prefer pilates. seems a bit more honest to me. no offense to the yogas and yoginis but it's all about the arse in this culture, not so much the "union" as d mason says. yogarobics, ya know? it's like tattooing OHM on your body. it's like stealing.
