Having "the runs" with rice milk
Posted by: Delta223 ()

Hi all;

I'm naturally lactose intolerant, although I don't have an issue with yogurts. I bought some organic rice milk that specifically said it was lactose free. After drinking about 10 oz of it I felt the same feelings that I did with regular milk: having to go to the bathroom NOW. I did and my stool was watery, indicating the rice milk was the culprit. This has happened twice so far (yesterday & today)

Anyone have any idea why I seem to have intolerance?

Thanks

A few questions come to mind:
Is this your first rice milk?
What else did you eat?
Could this be a coincidence?
What else is on the rice milk label?
Why are you drinking rice milk?

Could be you cannot tolerate rice milk, or one of the additives in it, like a binder or something. Also, if this was a Tetrapak carton, the plastic tab top isn't always fully vacuum sealed, and the milk can spoil slowly as air and bacteria get in, even if the carton seems unopened. Did the milk smell or taste "off" at all?

The milk tasted fine. I drank it today and the same issue happened which definitely means it is the culprit. I'm drinking rice milk because I thought it would be "ok" but I guess it is not... I just wish I knew why so I can figure out whether to even try the other types of milk.

Are you drinking rice milk to replace milk in cereal or as a beverage? Just curious because there may better options depending on what you are trying to achieve.

Neither actually; it was just on sale so I bought it. Next time I'll try soy milk to see if it is any better

Maybe you're allergic to something in it. Check the ingredients!
