i use clay mud for shampoo works GREAT
Posted by: la_veronique ()
Date: January 13, 2014 08:19PM

i do
and it works good
started it today ( just get any clay ... bentonite or whatever other clays are out there) it comes in a powdery form first
scalp felt clean and great
so did my hair
plus i didn't have to worry about a bunch of shampoo conditioner
lingering on my hair
i was amazed

and my h air felt soft
i read on different sites that "it takes a while"
but i have no idea what they are talking about

i just used it today
and it didn't "take a while"
and my hair feels soft and good

share in my amazement
and try it for yourself

just get clay
add water
put it in some container

rub it on you scalp first
then apply on your hair
then put the shower on
and rinse it out

it comes out
it does
you don't think it will
but it comes out
and it leaves your hair feeling very clean

i can't believe i spent all that money on expensive herbal shampoo and "organic" natural conditioners

wow
where HAVE I BEEN?

anyone else use mud for their hair
or just nothing at all?

me, i prefer to be clean... always
i hear some people don't even wash their hair... like... ever

that sounds both whoaahhh.... and highly fascinating and intriguing LOLsmiling smiley

if i can pull off using NOTHING on my hair
well ...that would be amazing too

but so far, i'm sticking to the mud clay thing
works well

plus i live in society
yeah, i always like to smell good be clean smiling smiley

MUD.... it does a hair and scalp GOOD!

at least for today
i hope this thing works continuously

does anyone know if my natural hair oils will still be there
if i just use mud ( i use bentonite clay with water only)

i hope so
i like my hair

i hear some people also mix apple cider vinegar with the mud
do you also just use apple cider alone for your hair?
it would make it easier for the shower /tub i bet

anyhow this clay thing has become a new best friend
wow... amazing

what clays do other people use
green clay? what other kinds of clays exist?

I wonder if urine would make my hair squeaky clean?

I want to try the clay shampoo. What kind did you use? Does it make a difference - green clay, french clay, bentonite clay? I normally wash my hair with this soap --

then I rinse it with apple cider vinegar and it works well and makes my hair real soft afterward, but some people complain about the smell when it's wet, "Is somebody eating a salad?" sad smiley

kidraw

oh i didnt know the apple cider vinegar rinse would do that
i guess its hard to rinse out completely

wondering if you should do the apple cider vinegar first
then the shampoo second
so then u get the benefits without the "fragrance" of vinegar

as far as which clay i just used bentonite cuz that is what i have
haven't tried green or french clay

banana who

i haven't tried urine on my hair to make it "squeaky clean"
but if you're interested
maybe you outta try it

hi banana who
well apparently some people do use urine for their hair with purportedly good results
though that is not something that i will be doing any time soon
unless maybe if i somehow get lost in the Himalayan mountains
900 feet above ground level
and run out of mud

I often use bicarb of soda mixed in water (1 - 2 tspns in a bottle, rub into scalp well), then a mix of green tea with some kombucha for the final rinse (the slightly acid pH is good for the hair apparently). I'll try the clay though sounds gooood smiling smiley Do you ever leave it on for a while like a conditioning treatment? It seems similar to using henna..

I tried henna and it took the curl out of my hair and dried it out. Thank goodness it was ok the next time I washed it. But what about going out after it rains and just getting some plain old mud and washing your hair with it? Or would that be loaded with parasites? People who do gardening put their hands in mud all the time - that and the fresh air and exercise is what makes gardening so healthy.

I used honey a long time ago to transition into using lemon or lime juice and that's all I used for several years, until there was just too much build up. Now I use lemon or lime juice throughout the week as needed and shampoo only once a week. The clay sounds like it would work like the honey, but even better. I'll have to give that a try.

<<Most clays such as bentonite are typically very high in aluminium and other toxic metals, so something to watch out for>>

asked about constituency of product
it had iron, phosphorous and other minerals
the only metal i recall that would require alertness was aluminum oxide
my understanding is that aluminum in this form is harmless
as it is bound to the oxygen

here is something that elucidates the aluminum issue further

however if u do find any information that says that aluminum oxide is harmful

i actually would be highly interested in investigating it further

there does need to be more research on aluminum
since it is found everywhere
and in almost all foods etc.
but in a compound form (hence supposedly "harmless"

the brussel sprouts and broccoli i eat all have aluminum compounds
its just in the soil but in a compound form ( not isolated aluminum)

that was the entire issue with adya clarity
the funny thing is aluminum compounds are in most all foods lolsmiling smiley

There is a very long rich history of using clay and even urine in cleaning both plant and animal fiber. For your reading pleasure...

but i do take the metal issue seriously
and its true that clay sucks out heavy metals hence
its a good idea to NOT put the clay in any container that is metal
or stir it with a metal spoon or
leave the spoon inside the bowl ( cuz the clay will end up with the metals)

use wooden stirrer

Both together? Have urine, will 'poo!winking smiley

In any case, my concern is that clay would be drying to the hair.

i'm also kinda wondering
how i could go about not using ANYTHING at all ( like some people do)
and still end up smelling like roses

its tantamount to breatharianism for the hair LOLsmiling smiley

I guess I should have said that I posted this link for historical interest only to avoid confusion.

Personally, I wouldn't use clay on living animal fiber. Too harsh of an adsorbant.

I wouldn't use urine on living or dead fiber. Just not into that stuff myself. I have bought processed fiber that has utilized urine for traditional natural indigo dyeing in the past. Nothing wrong with that. I just don't care to do it myself. It's useful for achieving very beautiful indigo dye colors which are hard to obtain using other natural ingredients sometimes.

i don't leave it on as a conditioner
it sucks out impurities
it does not moisturize
maybe u can put jojoba oil on your hair afterwards to get that conditioner effect
or an avocado hair mask

I don't think it would work for my hair. I think clay is rather drying and my hair is coarse and tends towards dryness.

I know this is not really on topic, but this post reminds me of something in a little book my mother kept. She was born in 1910, and the book came from that era. It was written for women as a guide to keeping house, and it included instructions on how to whiten clothes. You put oak ashes in a big pot outdoors with a fire under it, add your clothes to the pot, and boil the water.

My mother remembered when all the women did that, and she said the clothes came out a whiter white than clothes ever come these days when they are bleached.

Sounds like an end of the historic textile era form of bucking.

Back in the historic era of textiles endeavors related to textiles took as much money and/or time and effort in peoples lives as what it took to produce food on table.

I use mustard powder. Mix it into a paste with water and apply to my scalp for 20 min, then wash it off. It stimulates hair growth, and cleanses my hair well. Rince off with apple vinigar solution.

why is it that vinegar rinse is always used separate or after some other treatment?

seems like that's the trend

like, why do you not use the two together?

just curious

It's mostly a pH thing with hair cleaning care. If you use a clarifying shampoo, that is balanced to the pH of the scalp and hair, (4.5 to 5.5), like I do there is no need for a acidifying rinse to bring the pH back in balance.

When you use a soap based or other high pH substance on your hair is where you run into damaging problems. I once made the mistake of using Bonners castile soap,(pH of 10-11) on my hair. What a train wreck that was.

The pH of borax is 9.5 and the pH of bentonite is 8 or 9. These aren't as bad as castile soap but all of these alkaline substances are going to damage hair and scalps unless the pH is brought back down after washing with an acidifying rinse. And then how are you supposed to know where on the scale this pH swinging from one of the scale to the other actually ends up?

What happens to the outer layer of a hair when exposed to stuff with an alkaline pH is that the scales which cover the shaft raise. If they stay in that position the surface feels rough and fluffy and the scales are much more susceptible to being broken off which is how the damage of these high pH hair treatments make themselves first known. These alkaline pH hair treatments are also bad on the scalp so I just stick with pH corrected shampoos to avoid these pH wild swings in hair care adjustments which if used on a daily basis are probably even worse than not using shampoo at all.

what brand do u use as a clarifying shampoo and what do you mean by "clarifying"
like it strips residue or something? or just perfect pH ( sounds good to me)
