pearled/hulled barley---raw---edible? poisonous?

Date: August 27, 2007 06:15PM I am wondering if there are any raw barley eaters out there who can tell me they have survived and/or regularly eat literally raw "pearled" or hulled barley. I am aware you cannot eat un-hulled barley, but have not seen anything to indicate that you can eat the pearled/hulled version raw (it appears most advocate cooking it, or sprouting it, etc).
Just want to make sure I am not poisoning myself (e.g., I've heard many raw nuts contain cyanide), or otherwise eating something that is not all that healthy for my body. It would seem it would be edible however, as it doesn't look, chew, or taste any different than some of the more "earthy", granola-like cereals (I did already chew on 1 pearled barley). Please let me know. I am very hungry! Re: pearled/hulled barley---raw---edible? poisonous?

Date: August 30, 2007 10:01PM I don't know about raw, but I personally have always found cooked unhulled barley to be an excellent help with doing the raw diet. It stabilizes my blood sugar, cuts my appetite, and makes me crave just fruits & veggies. It has a nice slimming effect on my waist. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
