Nama Shoyu Toxic?

I don't think he would mind if I quote him. As a side note, I had a dressing with Nama Shoyu in it and felt really mentally drained, to a degree I haven't experienced in a long time. I also read that soy products, soymilk and tofu shrinks the brain. [www.westonaprice.org] So then if we aren't allowed to eat tofu, then what can we eat in it's place? Not too many foods for us to eat any more. :-( Re: Nama Shoyu Toxic?

Date: April 24, 2006 04:14PM Tofu is never raw. To make tofu you need to cook the soybeans (I made it once). Once tofu is made, some people cook it again, so they assume that before they have cooked it, it must be raw, but not so, as it's cooked during the manufacturing process.

You can make raw tofu, if inclined. I've seen recipes all over the web to do this. So, not all tofu is cooked, just the stuff you buy in the stores. Also, ryanandvan, don't believe everything that D. Graham says. He's gonna be against everything that is not natural hygiene. I've never heard of nama shoyu having glutamate in it. Glutamate is an additive and not naturally occurring in nama shoyu, to my knowledge. I suspect, that anyone having a freakish reaction to the sodium in tamari is probably lacking in natural sodium and/or is probably dehydrated without even knowing it. Date: May 08, 2006 11:18PM Well, I'm raw because it is natural. I'm not sure that fermenting things is the most natural and we must admit that some fermented things are toxic (cheese for example). The bacteria that ferment these things through off waste products. Also, what do you think gives Nama Shoyo it's zap? I don't know if you've had MSG, but I found a striking resemblance. I'm not going to experiment on myself. That is the last bottle for me. Re: Nama Shoyu Toxic?

msg is never added to nama shoyu. It's the fermentation over several years that gives it it's zap. It's the same thing with miso, wine and anything else that is fermented. Again, if someone experiences issues with nama shoyu they should skip it but, based on all of my research, the root of the problem is dehydration, which is why the body freaks out over the salt.
