I hate green smoothies.

Date: January 09, 2008 04:52AM Can someone please give me a simple, easy to tolerate green smoothie? Because so far every one I've tried is disgusting and I can't even get it down.
I hate Kale.. don't even go there. I tried cabbage today.. couldn't drink it plain or mixed with banannas. I'd get way more greens in if I could find a blended combo that I can tollerate. I can't even handle "green juice" unless it's like 4oz of spinach with 10oz of carrot. And I've tried to blend things that I'd drink as juice and it's still disgusting. Re: I hate green smoothies.

Date: January 09, 2008 05:48AM Hi LikeitOrNot, I love greens and greens smoothies and juices, and one that I really like is orange and spinach. I have a green juice every morning and today I had celery, cucumber, kale (sorry), and 2 lemons and that was delicious for me. Sometimes I add ginger and it is very nice.
One that I really love is : 20 green grapes,2 T green powder, maple syrup and lemon. Maybe,if you make an apple juice and add one green, than every week you start adding one new veggie, maybe you will be use to it. But do not force yourself. I hate cilantro and I did force myself once and that was terrible.I can't even talk about it that makes me sick.So do not foce yourself.Go easy.Baby steps. Re: I hate green smoothies.

Date: January 09, 2008 09:53PM One recipe I like is (this makes about 1/2 gallon):
3 large or 4 medium bananas 1 apple (your choice of type) 2 pears 1 bunch greens (spinach, arugula, dandelion, romaine, etc., etc.) 1 T. raw pumpkin seeds (for the zinc) 1 T. raw sunflower seeds (for the good omegas etc.) 1/4 cup frozen organic blueberries (for the flavor and the health benefits) It's really yum. Date: January 13, 2008 09:47AM If anyone hates Green Smoothies, they're not using the proper ingredients. My favorite Green Smoothie is:
2 Walnuts (or 2 Tbsp. Pumpkin Seeds) 2 Tbsp. Purple or Yellow Corn (soaked in advance) 1 1/2 cups of Water 2 ounces of pre-washed mixed Greens 1 Carrot lots of Celery, Broccoli, Sweet Peppers, and Tomato Blend until Smooth. I've tried Cauliflower don't like it......WY Re: I hate green smoothies.

Date: January 14, 2008 05:14PM All the ones I've made are delicious and even my SAD family loved them as does my after school child and he's 13 yrs. old!
Try: some fruit juice (fresh or bottled) or water in blender about 1 C or less banana mango berries (fresh or frozen, any kind) or other fruit of your choice, like pineapple, cranberry etc. (Often I use the fresh pulp of either fresh made fruit juices and or from my carrot and fresh greens juices) Fresh parsley 1/4 C approx. Fresh spinach 1/2 C approx. Sometimes cucumber up to 1/2 cuke Sometimes carrot (small carrot or 1/4 of a large carrot) Often I will add in 1 T of powdered flax seed (you can add in flaxseed oil too) and my probiotic of choice. If it comes out too thick for your taste, just stir in some more liquid of your choice. If you make too much, store in air tight glass jar and drink/eat up later, saves for 24 hours. There you go..easy, peasy, and tasty..and best thing of all besides tasting so good is the action you get in cleaning out intestinal tract! Love, Prism Re: I hate green smoothies.

Date: January 17, 2008 01:49PM LikeItOrNot I can totally agree with you THIS morning!
I tried my first green smoothie this morning and I'm sitting at my desk trying to get it down because it tastes soooo bad. I was running late for work so I had to just throw it together....bunch of either endive or escarole (can't remember), 1 cup rasberries, 1 banana and 2 cups water. When I first blended it, it was a nasty brown color so I thought I didn't add enough greens...so I added another handful and it turned into a pretty green smoothie. Boy I thought that this was going to be good tasting....WRONG!! It is soooo bitter! I hope I get better at this : ) By the way do you all need a good laugh?? Then keep reading. As I said I was running late for work and doing my best to hurry and make the smoothie that after I added the second handful of greens I forgot to hold the lid down when I turned it on.....yep, you guessed it.....green smoothie EVERYWHERE, the countertop, the stove (and down the stove) the floor, splater on the fride and OF COURSE my work pants and shoes. O'well what can you do but *smile* One of those days ; ) Re: I hate green smoothies.

Date: January 17, 2008 04:13PM Green Smoothies should be prepared with Love in an unhurried atmosphere. They 'work' better that way.....WY
P.S. I've found the 'secret' is to use a lot of Sweet Peppers and Tomatoes for a better Flavor. Re: I hate green smoothies.

Date: January 17, 2008 04:51PM I would also suggest trying varieties of greens that are not as bitter on their own, and to keep the volume of greens moderate until you're sure you want more.
The brown color you describe was probably the result of red raspberries + green leaves = brown smoothie. If you're not comfortable with the color, try using fruit that is not red - or else using "greens" which have red leaves. My favorite smoothie green is spinach - it's flavor is very smooth on it's own and I end up with a smoothie that's not a bit bitter. Re: I hate green smoothies.

I definitely agree about taking your time! When you say sweet peppers are you refering to red bell peppers??? Frances - That sounds great! I will try it with spinach next time! And about the color brown...duh! What was I thinking LOL! Re: I hate green smoothies.

Date: January 18, 2008 06:00AM dinner G/S
tomatos arugula celery parsley spinach red pepper cucumber baby bok choy generally i will also use kale in this mix, or romaine but you said not to go there but it really does taste good and not bitter. for a sweet g/s, try adding in a couple dates or apples maybe. if you are putting in a banana, it might make it a little bitter. bananas are tricky, so make sure if you really want the banana you pulse the blender instead of letting the tornado in the middle. that way the oxygen does not get in the smoothie, and it will save you from the bitter edge that sometimes bananas tend to give the smoothie. also, instead of water use orange juice. if you think your g/s are too bitter, use lemons or apples to balance out the bitterness. in my experience cabbage is a little hard to digest... especially the purple varieties. i find that tomatoes and celery go great with green smoothies (like making a big salad in a blender) because it's all like salty like so it mixes well. They come in a one pint container and are different colors...red, orange, and yellow. The ones I'm finding now are not Organic. I'd also recommend Campari Tomatoes, also not Organic, but very good.....WY Re: I hate green smoothies.

O'well what can you do but *smile* One of those days ; )>> hee hee ksandberg i did have a good laugh ( at your expense.. sorry) i've had mishaps too and they were pretty serious like one time i had a portable computer in my bag and it was next to my green juice and i had thought the lid was "secure" but it wasn't it spilt all over the computer and got into the nooks and crannies it took quite a bit of serious praying to the gods as well as airing it out for it to come back on again other times, i've had green juice all over my books ( had to replace and by an entire book cost me $44.00 because the juice just went ALL OVER and would have gotten seriously moldy and it was quite an important book) once, i was driving and trying to drink my juice and it got all over my clothes because had to make a sudden stop ( and yes, i had to drive all the way back home to change it because well... it wasn't very appropriate for the occasion to have my blouse splattered with emerald stains...people would have wondered what was up have had bananas splatter in my purse ( cuz maybe they were too ripe) and it got all over my other stuff ( like hair brush, and other girly stuff)which isn't cool cuz it is quite a chore trying to wash the contents of the purse AND the purse under running water in the sink and then getting water into everything and then trying to dry it out etc. so, i know that the solution is to have everything in separate bags but for some reason i don't like going around carrying everything like i was going on a trip to Europe ( ha ha) i like things in ONE bag or purse so this country is in this war against terror ( anti terrorism) they need to spend more time finding SECURITY MEASURES for the green juice/smoothie so precious "information" ( vital nutrition of the greens which will "inform" the cells" ) will not "leak" into other areas ( like hand purse) and cause critical damage i've had a thermos that had the lid just not "right" and it too leaked all over the place strange.. because i'm not a clumsy person at all in any respects EXCEPT when it comes to the green juices and travelin' Re: I hate green smoothies.

Date: January 28, 2008 09:28PM Are you supposed to "JUICE" spinach or "BLEND" it with other juices? I have only blended it with other juices and when I set it in the fridge it seperates into 1/2 green smoothie 1/2 green foam...lol. I am also using a whole bag of spinach in my Vita-Mix...is that TOO MUCH?? Little help here everyone : )
Thanks!!! Kim Re: I hate green smoothies.

Date: January 29, 2008 06:51PM When you are new to green smoothies, you should basically be starting out with a fruit smoothie that you add a small amount of greens to, and then gradually increase the amount of greens as you get used to it. A whole bag is probably way too much for a newbie, unless you are very used to greens.
The whole thing is blended. No juice. That kind of sounds gross to me, I had never heard of doing it with juice. Juice is more concentrated since it lacks the fiber, so it'll change the flavor a lot more. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
